  • A lamp which is currently employed to LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) Backlight is almost CCFL(Cold Cathod Fluorescent Lamp) and EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp). However, the use of these lamps is being restricted as RoHS(the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) regulation is gradually reinforced. According to this situation, the manufacturing of a lamp which doesn't use mercury is unescapable. Moreover, LCD TV has a defect which take place Motion Blur phenomenon due to response time of LC(Liquid Crystal), and Hold-type characteristic which only exists in LCD differently to CRT, PDP. In this paper, an inverter is proposed to drive a plane light source lamp which is not containing mercury. Driving circuit of proposed inverter is simple because the number of semiconductor device and magnetic device is reduced by using forward topology. Also, Motion Blur phenomenon is decreased by dividing the plane light source lamp to six block along vertical direction, and scanning. Finally, we proved usefulness of proposed inverter through experiment.

  • We present a novel deep learning architecture for obtaining a latent image from a single blurry image, which contains dynamic motion blurs through object/camera movements. The proposed architecture consists of two sub-modules: blur image restoration and optical flow estimation. The tasks are highly related in that object/camera movements make cause blurry artifacts, whereas they are estimated through optical flow. The ablation study demonstrates that training multi-task architecture simultaneously improves both tasks compared to handling them separately. Objective and subjective evaluations show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-arts deep learning based techniques.

  • Undesired camera shaking can make a blur effect, which causes a degradation of video quality. We propose an efficient method of removing the blur effects on video captured from a single camera. The proposed method has a sequential process that is applied to each frame. The first stage is to estimate the camera motion for each frame. In order to estimate the camera motion, we compute the optical flow using 3 consecutive frames. Then a patch-wise image deconvolution is applied. During the deconvolution, edge prediction is used to improve the quality of image deconvolution. After patch-wise image deconvolution, deblurred patches are integrated into an image to produce a deblurred frame. The above process is performed for each frame. The experimental result shows that the proposed method removes the blur effect efficiently.

  • Motion-image-quality of LCD-TVs is discussed by dynamic spatial frequency response. Smaller temporal aperture or higher frame rate can improve dynamic response, but an increase of motion velocity easily cancels the improvement. A guideline for deciding the desirable temporal aperture and frame rate of LCD-TVs is described, under the condition that camera and display have the same parameters. Two candidates of the desirable parameter sets will be (240 or 300 Hz, 50 to 100% aperture) and (120Hz, 25 to 50% aperture), from the viewpoint of "limit of acceptance" on motion-imagequality-deterioration for critical picture materials.

  • This paper proposes a real-time method using a 3-axis accelerometer to enhance blurred images taken from a camera loaded in mobile devices. Blurring phenomenon is a smoothing effect occurring in photo images. Algorithms to cope with blurring phenomenon is essential since small-size mobile devices tremble severely by even a tiny hand-shaking of a user. In this paper, accurate sensing characteristics of the 3-axis accelerometer is acquired by applying the sensor in pendulum motion and the blurring phenomenon is modeled as a uniform distribution and Gaussian distribution. Also, non-Gaussian distributed model is observed in the experiment of real blurring phenomenon and a particular deblurring function is designed by reversing the model. It has been demonstrated that the application of trembling information to the deblurring function adequately removes the blurring phenomenon.

  • This paper proposes a fast patch-based de-blurring algorithm including kernel estimation based on the angle between the edge and the blur direction. For de-blurring, image patches from the most informative edges in the blurry image are used to estimate a kernel with low computational cost. Moreover, the kernels of each patch are estimated based on the correlation between the edge direction and the blur direction. This makes the final kernel more reliable and creates an accurate latent image from the blurry image. The combination of directionally oriented kernel estimation and patch-based de-blurring is faster and more accurate than existing state-of-the art methods. Experimental results using various test images show that the proposed method achieves its objectives: speed and accuracy.
