  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to confirm the structural relationship among maternal parenting stress, neglectful mediation of smart media and the over use of smart media in preschool children. Methods: Quantitative surveys were conducted to measure maternal parenting stress, smart media neglect mediation, and over use of smart media in preschool children. In addition, the mediating effect of maternal neglectful smart media mediation in maternal parenting stress and preschool children's over use of smart media was verified using the Amos 23.0 and SPSS 26.0 programs Results: Maternal parenting stress and mother's neglectful mediation of smart media had a direct effect on preschool children's over use of smart media. In addition, mother's neglectful mediation of smart media mediated the influence of the mother's parenting stress on preschooler children's over use of smart media. Conclusion/Implications: These findings emphasize the important role of maternal stress in preschool children's over use of smart media. And maternal competence such as supervision and limit setting is an important role in preschool children's use of smart media, so it is necessary to develop a practical and diverse parenting education program in order to reduce.

  • This study was to investigate the effects of children's temperament, parenting behavior, and parenting stress on preschool children's prosocial behavior. The subjects were 190 children consisting of five and six years old and their mothers and fathers. They were selected from 6 kindergartens. Data was collected using the children's prosocial behavior index, the children's temperament index, the parenting behavior questionnaire, and the parenting stress questionnaire. The results were statistically analyzed using t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that there were some significant differences in children's prosocial behavior according to the children's gender, but there were no significant differences according to the children's age. Correlation analysis indicated that the children's prosocial behavior and children's temperament had significant correlation, especially the children's adaptability and activity indicated high positive correlations. In addition, the children's prosocial behavior and mother's warmth acceptance behavior had significant high positive correlation, and father's rejection restriction behavior had significant high negative correlation. Also, correlation analysis indicated that the children's prosocial behavior and the mother's and father's stress of parent-child dysfunctional interaction and educational distress had significant negative correlations. It was also found that children's gender, mother's permissiveness non- intervention behavior, mother's educational distress, mother's stress of parent-child dysfunctional interaction, and father's stress of parent-child dysfunctional interaction were all significant predictors of the preschool children's prosocial behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mother's parenting stress and child's temperament, mother's temperament, and poorness-of-fit. The subjects were 236 mothers of 4- to 6-year-old children in Seoul. Data was analyzed by correlation, analysis of variance, and stepwise regression analysis. Results showed that most poorness-of-fit of emotionality was due child's high-mother's high (CH-MH) and high-low (CH-ML) combination. Most poorness-of-fit (activity as well as sociability) was associated with child's low-mother's low (CL-ML) and low-high (CL-MH) combination. Mothers who had a highly emotional child and who were in poorness-of-fit emotionality perceived more hassles and more intensive daily parenting stress. It was also found that the most significant variable predicting mother's hassles and daily stress intensity was poorness-of-fit of emotionality, followed by mother's emotionality.

The main results of this study were as follows. First, there were differences in mother's parenting stress according to individual characteristics such as mothers employment status, parenting costs, mother's feeling of pregnancy. Second, a moderator effect of a husbands' cooperation was found in the relationship between toddlers'negative emotionality and mothers' parenting stress. • This study investigated the relations between mother's parenting self-efficacy, perceived social support, parenting behavior, and stress, and child's temperament, and child' self-esteem, including a mediational role of Korean mother's parenting self-efficacy. The participants were 404 Korean child-mother dyads living in Seoul, Korea. Structural equation modeling indicated that mother's parenting self-efficacy was a significant mediator of the relation between mother's perceived social support and child's temperament and mother's parenting behaviors including Warmth-Acceptance, Rejection-Restriction, and Permissiveness-Nonintervention. In the Warmth-Acceptance model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem through Warmth-Acceptance. In the Rejection-Restriction model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem both directly and through Rejection-Restriction. Child's temperament was also related to Rejection-Restriction directly. In the Permissiveness-Nonintervention model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem directly, not through Permissiveness-Nonintervention. Child's temperament, also, was related to Permissiveness-Nonintervention directly.

  • The purpose of this research is to delineate the effect of maternal variables of the children's depression. Such variables as the mother's age, her education level and maternal parenting stress have been chosen for the analysis. The sample subject were 659 pairs of fifth/sixth grade of elementary school and first/second grade of middle school and their mothers. The data were analyzed frequency, percentage, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major findings of the research are as follows : First, the children's depression is significantly related to mother's education level but the children's depression is not significantly related to mother's age. Second, parenting stress related to temperament, relationship and learning expectation is significantly related to children's depression. Third, the result of step multiple regression analysis on the effects of the maternal variables to the children's depression indicates that maternal parenting stress related to temperament, relationship and mother education level are the significant contributing factor. All in all, the maternal variables account for 7% of the children's depression score.

  • This study examined the factors that are related to employed mothers' parenting stress. The study specifically investigated the relative effect sizes of the mother's personality, child's temperament and familial factors as the predictors. The subjects were employed mothers with school-aged children living in the Gyeonggi-do area. The findings were as follows. First, the parenting stress of working mothers was relatively high. Second, the mother's personality predicted parenting stress in a greater magnitude compared to the effect sizes of the child's temperament, family support, marriage satisfaction, or demographic factors. Among mothers' personality factors, neuroticism had the greatest effect followed by cheerfulness, flexibility, consciousness, openness, and extraversion.
