  • The electric marketplace is in the midst of major changes designed to promote competition. No longer vertically integrated with guaranteed customers and suppliers, electric generators and distributors will have to compete to sell and buy electricity. Unit commitment (UC) in such a competitive environment is not the same as the traditional one anymore. The objective of UC is not to minimize production cost as before but to find the solution that produces a maximum profit for a generation firm. This paper presents a hi-level formulation that decomposes the UC game into a generation-decision game (first level game) and a state(on/off)-decision game (second level game). Derivation that the first-level game has a pure Cournot Nash equilibrium(NE) helps to solve the second-level game. In case of having a mixed NE in the second-level game, this paper chooses a pure strategy having maximum probability in the mixed strategy in order to obviate the probabilistic on/off state which may be infeasible. Simulation results shows that proposed method gives the adequate UC solutions corresponding to a NE.

  • In order to improve the seismic behaviors of traditional steel-concrete mixed structure, a novel steel concrete mixed structure consisting of steel frames braced with buckling restrained braces (BRBs) and a concrete tube is proposed. Based on several assumptions, the simplified mechanical model of the novel mixed structure is established, and the shear and bending stiffness formulas of the steel frames, BRBs and concrete tube are respectively introduced. The equilibrium differential equation of the novel mixed structure under horizontal load is developed based on the structural elastic theory. The simplified algorithms to determine the lateral displacement and internal forces of the novel mixed structure under the inverted-triangle distributed load, uniformly load and top-concentrated load are then obtained considering several boundary conditions and compatible deformation conditions. The effectiveness of the simplified algorithms is verified by FEM comparison.

  • The influence of mixing on biogas production and organic material removal performance of solid state anaerobic digestion of dairy manure and sawdust bedding mixtures was evaluated using 22 L volume lab-scale digesters. After 45 days of anaerobic digestion at $37^{\circ}C$, cumulative methane yield of unmixed test unit ($73.1N{\cdot}mL/g-VS$) was almost 1.3 times of that of mixed one ($56.3N{\cdot}mL/g-VS$). The biodegradable volatile solids removal rate of unmixed test unit was 67%, which was almost 28% greater than mixed one. Our results reveal that unmixed condition is better than mixed one in terms of biogas production and organic material reduction.

  • This study is designed for producing and analyzing the structure application properties of the ready mixed concrete of specified concrete strength about 400kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in the batcher plant. And this part is designed for analyzing to the slump, slump flow, air content and unit weight in fresh state. By the test results of fresh concrete state, the slump, slump flow and air content are decreased, but unit weight is increased while open time is passed.

  • The mixed-state Hall angle has been measured in Hg-based superconducting thin films as functions of magnetic fields (H) up to 18 T. The temperature dependence of the Hall angle shows a peak (T$^{\ast}$) at low temperature, which is consistent with a crossover point from the thermally activated flux flow (TAFF) to a critical region (CR). At low fields below 10 T, T$^{\ast}$ shifts to low temperature with increasing fields. Interestingly, however, we found that T$^{\ast}$ is independent of fields above 10 T, suggesting unusual vortex state. A physical implication of H - T$^{\ast}$ line will be discussed.

  • The mixed-state Hall angle has been measured in Hg-based superconducting thin films as functions of magnetic fields (H) up to 18 T. The temperature dependence of the Hall angle shows a peak (T*) at low temperature, which is consistent with a crossover point from the thermally activated flux flow (TAFF) to a critical region (CR). At low fields below 10 T, T* shifts to low temperature with increasing fields. Interestingly, however, we found that T* is independent of fields above 10 T, suggesting unusual vortex state. A physical implication of H-T* line will be discussed.

  • We investigate a multiclass priority system with a mixed service discipline, and propose a new approach to the analysis of performance measures (mean waiting times) of the system. Customers are preferentially served in the order of priority. The service discipline at each station is either gated or exhaustive discipline. We formulate mean waiting times as functions on the state of the system. We first consider the system at an arbitrary system state to obtain explicit formulae for the mean waiting times, and then derive their steady state values by using the property of Poisson arrivals to see time averages and the generalized Little's formula.

  • This study focuses on the reliability of a transmission line under wind excitation and evaluates the failure probability using explicit data resources. The data-driven framework for calculating the failure probability of a transmission line subjected to wind loading is presented, and a probabilistic method for estimating the yearly extreme wind speeds in each wind direction is provided to compensate for the incompleteness of meteorological data. Meteorological data from the Xuwen National Weather Station are used to analyze the distribution characteristics of wind speed and wind direction, fitted with the generalized extreme value distribution. Then, the most vulnerable tower is identified to obtain the fragility curves in all wind directions based on uncertainty analysis. Finally, the failure probabilities are calculated based on the presented method. The simulation results reveal that the failure probability of the employed tower increases over time and that the joint probability distribution of the wind speed and wind direction must be considered to avoid overestimating the failure probability. Additionally, the mixed wind climates (synoptic wind and typhoon) have great influence on the estimation of structural failure probability and should be considered.

  • A numerical scheme is proposed to obtain the individual stress intensity factors in an axisymmetric crack and in a three dimensional mixed mode crack. The method is based on the path independence of J and M integral and mutual or two-state conservation integral , which involves two elastic fields. Some numerical example are presented to investigate the effectiveness and applicability of the method for and axisymmetric crack and a three dimensional penny shaped crack problem under mixed mode.
