Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of an exercise program for middle-aged obese women. Method: The exercise program combined folk dance and resistance training. The subjects group consisted of 85 middle-aged obese women between 40 and 60 years of age. Three 8 week sessions consisted of a $55-80\%$ maximum heart rate (MHR) exercise for 60-90 minutes a day and 3 times a week from March to November, 2004. Data was collected through a pre- and post-exercise test before and after each session. Data was collected with Inbody, dynamometer and blood. This data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, and a paired t-test with an SPSS/PC(10.0 version) program. Results: There were significant positive changes in body weight, body fat mass, body mass index, percent body fat, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and balance quality, but no significant positive changes in skeletal mass, fat free mass, percent abdominal fat(waist-hip ratio), visceral fat area, agility, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, or triglycerides. Conclusion: This study showed that an exercise program has partially positive effects for middle-aged obese women. The results of this study show that exercise at community health centers should continue for middle-aged obese women's health.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of health promotion program, which was based on the Health Belief Model, on the health belief, health promoting behavior and quality of life for middle-aged women. Methods: The study focused nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected among 40 middle-aged women (20 were experimental group and 20 were control group) on 1st November 2014 and 25th April 2015. The experimental group received 12 sessions of health promotion program for aging preparation once a week for 12 weeks. Data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$ and t-test and paired t-test using the PASW 21.0 program. Results: The study results shown that, health belief (t=-2.94, p=.006), health promoting behavior (t=-4.76, p<.001) and higher quality of life (t=-7.65, p<.001) scores of experimental group were higher than the control group. Conclusion: The health promotion program based on the Health Belief Model was effective and increased the health belief and health promoting behavior and quality of life among middle-aged women. It seems health promotion program is necessary to improve middle age women's health and quality of later life.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of family resilience and depression in a relation between family stress and psychological well-being among middle-aged. Method: The subjects were 409 of men and women between 40 to 59 living in D and G province. They completed the questionnaire on family stress, family resilience, depression, and psychological well-being. Correlation and structural equation models of SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 22.0 were used to examine the relations between the variables. Results: The results are as follows. First, family stress had no significant effect on psychological well-being of middle age men and women, while it directly influenced on family resilience and depression. Second, family resilience and depression had direct influence on psychological well-being. Third, there were significant mediating effects of family resilience and depression in a relationship between family stress and psychological well-being. Conclusions: Family stress has an indirect effect on psychological well-being among middle age men and women mediated by family resilience and depression. The result suggest that psychological well-being influenced by family stress can be improved by enhancing Family Resilience and reducing Depression.
The purpose of this study was to obtain baseline data of nutritional management for women's bone health according to age. This study was conducted through questionnaire, bone mineral density(BMD) measurement by DEXA and dietary survey by 24hr recalls to 134 adult women. Subjects were divided into three groups: young women group who aged 20-29(n=48), middle aged women group who aged over 30 and were pre-menopause(n=36), postmenopausal women group(n=48). The body fat percent of postmenopausal women group was the highest among the three groups. BMD of lumbar spine(L1-L2) were $0.93\;g/cm^2$ for young women, $0.97\;g/cm^2$ for middle aged women, and $0.88\;g/cm^2$ for postmenopausal women, respectively(p<0.05). BMD of femoral neck(p<0.05), trochanter(p<0.05), and ward's (p<0.001) were significantly decreased as age increasement. Drinking alcohol and skipping meals were significantly higher in young women groups than in the other groups, however frequency of doing regular exercise was significantly lower in young women groups. Young women group consumed the significantly higher amount of cereals(p<0.05), sugar and sweeteners(p<0.001), meats(p<0.01), eggs(p<0.01), milks(p<0.05) and oils(p<0.001) than middle aged and postmenopausal women. Also, energy(p<0.001), animal protein, (p<0.01), plant oil(p<0.001), animal fat(p<0.001), retinol(p<0.001), vitamin E(p<0.01), and cholesterol(p<0.001) intakes of young women were highest among the three groups. However, young women group consumed the significantly lower amount of dietary fiber(p<0.05), vitamin C(p<0.01), folate(p<0.05) and fruits(p<0.01) than the other groups. To summarized the our results, young women who were in still undergoing bone formation activity to develope peak bone mass, had more dietary habit and lifestyle problems than middle aged and postmenopausal women. The results of this study revealed that nutritional management and education for bone health should be emphasized in young women not only aged women.

The purpose of this study is to provide total data of real body-type and self-evaluation about it. The subjects were 614 middle-aged women between 35 and 59 years old. Data were collected through measurement and a questionnaire survey on self-evaluation. The results of self-evaluation of body are as follows; 1. As the result of the recognition degree analysis, people consider themselves thicker, shorter or smaller than what they really we, regardless of ages and types. In addition, the women of younger group rather than the women of older group consider themselves bigger/thicker and shorter than what they really are. They think that the items of waist girth, abdominal girth, hip girth, upper arm girth. and thigh girth are thicker than the other items, however, among girth items the size of bust girth is smaller than the other items. The women of the late middle-aged group consider their somatotype thicker/bigger and shorter than the women of the early middle-aged group do. 2. As the result of body cathexis for each part, women in general rum out themselves not to be satisfied with their body parts, regardless of ages and types. Particularly, they are not satisfied with abdominal girth, weight, hip girth. According to the age bracket, the women in the older group are more satisfied than the women of younger group in terms of their body. According to somatotype, women in tall and slim groups are more satisfied with their body. The women of the early middle-aged group turn out not to be satisfied with girth items while the women of the late middle-aged group are not satisfied with length items.
This study was conducted to analyze the actual wearing conditions and body fit preferences of the middle-aged women's ready-to-wear lower body clothing. The aim was also to analyze lower body recognition, lower body satisfaction, fit preferences and size satisfaction according to age and degree of girth size. A questionnaire was developed and administered to 300 middle-aged women aged 34 to 59. Statistical tests such as descriptive analysis, crosstabs, and X²-tests were conducted to analyze the data and ascertain the differences between the ages. Lower body satisfaction and recognition were compared by T-test. Also, Anova was used to analyze lower body recognition, satisfaction, fit preferences, and size satisfaction according to age and degrees of girth size. The results indicated that women aged 50 to 59 were more dissatisfied with the ready-to-wear sizing system and because of their body shapes had changed, their need for a larger size range system had also increased. Moreover, the element that most affected their purchase of ready-to-wear lower body clothing was the design followed by the size. The women, especially of the ages 50 to 59, showed a tendency to he dissatisfied with their lower bodies and they recognized that their lower bodies had thickened compared to women aged 34 to 39 and 40 to 49. Analysis of body satisfaction, recognition, and fit preference according to girth size showed that the group of larger girth size recognized that their lower bodies were thicker and were more dissatisfied and preferred looser fittings than the groups of smaller women.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate fatigue, depression and sleep in young adult and middle-aged. Method: The convenient sample consisted of 415 subjects from 20 to 59 years old. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from July to October, 2001. The V AS-F and CES-D were utilized to measure the level of fatigue and depression. Sleep duration and sleep satisfaction were measured based on the subject's self-report. Result: The result of the study revealed that the level of fatigue and depression was higher among young adult than middle-aged. Considering age and gender, the level of fatigue and depression was higher among young adult women and middle-aged men. Depression and sleep satisfaction influenced on the fatigue. Conclusion: Health care providers need to concern about fatigue and depression in young adult women and middle-aged men. Especially, more concern and intervention programs are needed for young adult women and middle-aged men.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of Yangsaeng and HRQOL in middle aged women. Yangsaeng as a traditional health care regimen for the promotion of health and prevention of illness by means of specific principles and methods, which purpose was to improve longevity and healthy life. Methods: The subjects of this study were 200 middle aged women in Korea. Data were collected by using a self-reported questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA and multiple linear regression. Results: There was statistically significant difference in Yangsaeng according to age, stress and working hours. There were significant differences in HRQOL according to stress and working hours. The relationship between Yangsaeng and HRQOL had a significant positive correlation. Mind and diet Yangsaeng, christianity, and working hours were found to be significant predictors (24.6%) of HRQOL. Conclusion: To promote HRQOL of middle aged women, the nurse should focus on the factors identified in this study when she develop nursing intervention programs for health promotion.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Koryo Hand Therapy(KHT) on menopausal symptoms and lipid levels in middle-aged women. Methods: The design of this study was a nonequivalent control-group pretest-posttest design. There were 32 subjects, 40-60 years of age, and assigned to two group. There were 16 members in the experimental group and 16 members in the control group. KHT was applied three times a week, for a total of 8weeks to the experimental group. The instruments used in this study to measure the effects of KHT were the menopausal symptoms scale and clinical laboratory testing(Blood Lipid Levels). Data was analyzed by Fisher's Exact Test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and ANCOVA, using SPSS/Win PC 13.0. Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in the menopausal symptoms, and levels of the total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusions: KHT was effective in decreasing menopausal symptoms in middle-aged women. Therefore KHT is recommended as a nursing intervention strategy for middle-aged women.
The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of hardiness, knowledge of menopause, menopausal management of the middle aged women to identify the variables that show differences in the hardiness, knowledge of menopause and menopausal management of middle aged women and to investigate the relation ship among hardiness, menopausal knowledge and menopausal management of the middle aged women. The subjects were 132 middle-aged women and belonged to the age between 40 and 60. They were selected in Pusan, Korea. Data were collected from Oct. to Nov., 1998 by means of a structured questionnaire. The instruments used for this were the hardiness scale developed by Song In Sook and Song Ae Ri and the menopausal management scale developed by Song Ae Ri. The results were as follows 1. The mean score of hardiness was 2.83, in minimum score 1.24 tomaximun score 5.04. The mean score of knowledge of menopausal was 0.68, in minimum score 0.21 to maximum score 0.71. the mean score of menopausal management was 2.26, in minimum score 1.35 to maximum score 3.18. 2. In the relation between social demographic and hardiness there were significant differences in the health condition, income, supportive person. In relation between social demographic and menopausal knowledge there were significant differences in the health condition, family members. In the menopausal management there was significant differences in the marital state. 3. There was significant correlation between the hardiness and menopausal management of middle aged women (r=-0.208, p=0.017). 4. There was not significant correlation between the knowledge of menopause and menopausal management (r=0.001, p=0.992). These findings suggest the need to develop nursing strategy to improve the power of hardiness in middle aged women. hardiness is important to improve the menopausal management of middle aged women.
