Hardware Implementation of a Neural Network Controller with an MCU and an FPGA for Nonlinear Systems

  • This paper presents the hardware implementation of a neural network controller for a nonlinear system with a micro-controller unit (MCU) and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. As an on-line learning algorithm of a neural network, the reference compensation technique has been implemented on an MCU, while PID controllers with other functions such as counters and PWM generators are implemented on an FPGA chip. Interface between an MCU and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip has been developed to complete hardware implementation of a neural controller. The developed neural control hardware has been tested for balancing the inverted pendulum while controlling a desired trajectory of a cart as a nonlinear system.

  • In this study, we introduce how to apply "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to injection molding system. We report the current state of IT technology applied to produce their products in micro lens injection molding system. And we explain key technology of ICT for injection molding system and how to implement. Especially, we also mention about an embedded controller, also called as "M2M device". It provides programmable intelligent functions, communication, various interfaces, amplifier functions and mobile device connection to our application.

  • Micro force measurement is required more frequently for a precision manufacturing and investment in fields of precision industries such as semiconductor, chemistry and biology, and so forth. Null balance method has been introduced as an alternative of a loadcell. Loadcells have advantages in aspects of low cost and easy manufacturing, but have also the limitation in resolution and sensitivity to environment variations. In this paper, null balance method is explained and the dominant parameters related to system performances are mentioned. Null position sensor, electromagnetic system and controller are investigated. Also, the characteristic experiment is carried out in order to estimate the resolution and the measurement range. In order to overcome the limitation by the drift of position sensor and the performance of controller, double electromagnetic force compensation method is proposed and experimented. After controlling and filtering, the resolution under $\pm$ 1mg and measurement range over 300g could be obtained.

  • In this paper, the patient monitor consisting of amplifier, scan converter, A/D converter, CRT amplifier, and micro-controller part was developed. This patient monitor measures the patient's 4 states in the hospital such as electro-cardiography, respiration, blood pressure, and temperature. The control and processing methods based on micro-processor employ the flexibility, extensibility and economy over other conventional system. The followings are incorporated in this system. First, record the heart rate trends for 1 and 4 hours respectively. Second, measures the respiration by impedance pneumography. Third, measures the blood pressure with auto-zero balance. Fourth, linesrize the temperatures by bridge method.

  • In this paper, an embedded micro processor based resistance spot welding controller is introduced which has been recently developed by Hyosung Co. Ltd. The performance of rapid and constant high current control is tested experimentally. This paper shows configurations of measuring system for high current and realtime RMS conversion techniques of sampled discrete data. A digital proportional control is adopted for this system and the result shows that this new product is working well at wide range of welding current and the performance is improved compared with some other commercially available controllers that are widely used in our industries. User friendly MMI system and a computer network system to monitor each welding processes are also presented.

무진동 크레인의 제어알고리즘 설계

  • The micro-computer based automatic control of the overhead crane system is designed. Two control methodologies were suggested; the one is the anti-swing controller which improves poor damping characteristics of the crane and the other is the stop-position controller which minimizes the transportation position error. The input speed profile is automatically determined by the pre-programmed digital control algorithm. The experimental results show that these proposed controllers have excellent control performance as compared with those of the uncontrolled crane system.

Development of a Hydraulic Level Control System for High-speed Rice Transplanting Machines (고속 이앙기의 유압 수평 제어 장치 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to develop system for high speed rice transplanting machines. The control system includes a sensor detecting the tilt angle of the seedling bed, a micro-controller and a hydraulic system consisting of a double acting cylinder, a four-way three-position solenoid valve, a relief valve and a hydraulic pump. The levelling system shared the pump with the existing steering control, resulting in a tandem center circuit for the steering and levelling control systems. Using the input signal from the sensor, the micro-controller determined and generated the output signal to control the cylinder through the solenoid valve to keep the seedling bed always parallel to the water surface regardless of soil unevenness during the transplanting operations. Both an ON/OFF and a PWM control schemes were tested. When the flow rate was more than 1 ι/min in the ON/OFF control, the system showed unstable rolling. However, in the PWM control, the system worked stably although the flow rate was more than 1 ι/min. The PWM control showed a better performance when a large difference between the angle and the dead band of the control system occurred. The characteristics of tile system response to given tilt angles were predicted by a computer simulation. Both the ON/OFF and the PWM control systems worked well providing that the operating and waiting times were properly adjusted.

  • 본 논문에서는 제어상황에 따라 Type-1 Fuzzy Logic Controller가 선택적으로 rule을 사용하도록 rule 선택 알고리즘을 제안 한다. 그리고 이를 통해 연산 효율성을 높이는 방법에 관해 논한다. Type-1 Fuzzy Logic Controller는 기존의 제어기에 비해 설계하기 쉽고 성능이 더 뛰어나다. 그러나 제어 변수가 많아질수록 rule의 개수가 늘어나 연산량이 증가하게 된다. 연산량이 많아지면 고성능의 컴퓨터에서는 실시간 연산에 문제가 없으나 산업용 micro controller에서는 실시간 연산을 구현하는데 한계가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 Type-1 Fuzzy Logic System의 논리구조에 근거하여 Type-1 Fuzzy Logic Controller의 연산량을 감소시킬 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 제어상황에 따라 필요한 rule들만 선택적으로 제어값 도출을 위한 연산에 관여하도록 한다. Matlab 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안한 알고리즘의 유용성과 연산량을 실험하였다. 실험대상은 2륜 이동로봇으로 하였고 step 응답과 전/후진 시 결과를 관찰하였다. 실험 결과 제안한 알고리즘이 기존의 Type-1 Fuzzy Logic Controller에 비해 제어상황에 따라 필요한 rule들만 선택적으로 사용하는 것을 확인하였다. 결과적으로 연산 효율성이 향상되었다.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive system provides a good adjustable speed and torque characteristics. However, it also has some drawbacks such as relatively high torque ripple and acoustic noise which are caused by the torque production mechanism. To reduce torque ripple and to have precise speed control, PLL technique is adopted. The PLL system in conjunction with dynamic dwell angle control scheme has good speed regulation characteristics. Digital control system with a 80c196kc micro-controller is used to be realized this drive system. Test results show that the suggested control system has the ability of dynamic and precise speed control.

  • Electro-theological fluid is recently used for the micro polishing of 3-dimensional micro-aspherical lens. It's also used for polishing small area defects on the wide flat wafer. Since ER fluid shows a behavior of viscosity changing under certain electric fields. micro polishing efficiency may be enhanced for certain cases. In this paper, a perfluorinated carbonyl fluoride oil based ER fluids was used to improve surface polishing rate and submicron-scale accuracy. As the polishing electrodes, micro size cylindrical tools had been used for maximizing the electric field. An experimental device, which was applied for micro polishing a number of wafers of 4inches in size and other workpiece. was made on a precision polishing system. It consisted of a steel electrode. a wafer fixture. l0㎃ current and DC 5㎸ power supply unit, and a controller unit. From the Experiments. the ER fluid is applicable for micro polishing of small parts.
