  • The homotopy analysis method (HAM) has been applied to develop an analytic solution for the coupled radiation-convection dissipative non-gray gas flow in a non-Darcy porous medium. Results are presented for the surface shear and temperature profiles are presented to illustrate the effect of various parameters appearing in the analytical formulation. The accuracy and convergence of the method is also discussed.

  • The industry of computer has been changed quickly by developing and growing info-communications industry and by supplying new technologies. The importance of software field which is based on this change is gradually emphasized. Nowadays more people tend to have realization of mathematics and statistics that are basic theory of software study, moreover, discrete mathematics is especially getting more important in whole mathematics field. It's essential to understand discrete mathematics in order to understand existing knowledge about software field in computer engineering and develop new technologies in different areas in the future. The way people get education about discrete mathematics, however, is improper as a result of massive materials and uncertain standard. This study subdivides discrete mathematics according to different tracks in the computer software study. In addition, the research which is suitable to individuality in different fields is able to be efficiently carried out by selecting related parts and the method of mathematics education is provided to deal with rapidly changed applications in related fields.

  • Whitehead proposed that the education proceed through the rhythmic cycle on the basis of his metaphysical philosophy and educational philosophy. 'The Rhythm of Education' means that the intellectual levels of learners are elevated through the rhythmic cycles of stages of romance, precision, and generalization over and over again. As a result of these cyclic repetitions, the learners become truly free of inner prejudice. This study is to seek a method to apply Whitehead's proposition to mathematics education. I devise the curriculum constructing methods to experience Whitehead's three stages meaningfully, the teaching methods interplaying freedom and discipline rhythmically, and the teaching examples which adopt all these.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how the Lakatos method works in the elementary teacher education program. Elementary preservice teachers were given a task in which they examined the Pick's theorem. The finding revealed that Lakatos method was usable in the elementary teacher education. They produced initial conjecture and found counterexamples, and finally made improved conjectures. These experience encourage them to change their belief of teaching and learning mathematics and to find alternative ways of teaching mathematics.

  • From the mid-1990s in Korea, performance assessment has been continuously emphasized in school mathematics and thus many researchers and teachers have been steadily studying this topic. But the concepts relevant to performance assessment and its purposes are very confusing because the mathematics educators' different views and voices are vary. As a result most mathematics teachers experience trouble in executing performance assessment properly and effectively in their math class. This unability for proper execution of performance assessment was once again revealed in this study which dealt with 15 articles on performance assessment. These 15 articles includes almost every article written on the topic of performance assessment that have been published in 4 domestic journals since December 1997. By examining this inability, it is required that its concepts and purposes should be organized with a common view and newly defined in the near future. Therefore, to successfully accomplish this, this paper outlines the basic problems on the understanding of performance assessment as follows: ㆍWhat is the relationship between performance assessment and alternative assessment\ulcorner ㆍWhat is the proper types(methods) of performance assessment\ulcorner ㆍIs the subject test a type of performance assessment\ulcorner ㆍWhat is the difference between subject test and essay test\ulcorner ㆍWhat is the relationship between performance assessment and performance tasks\ulcorner ㆍWhat is the relationship between performance tests and project method\ulcorner ㆍWhat is a project method\ulcorner ㆍIs it assessment standard or scoring standard to score a test result\ulcorner ㆍWhat is the difference between analytic scoring method and holistic scoring method?

  • Teaching the notion of limit of the sequence in high school mathematics needs special attention and accurate teaching methods, for it is one of the most important bases of the advanced mathematics. Therefore it is necessary for high school students to have the right understanding of the notion of limit of the sequence. In this paper, we survey several teaching methods of the notion of limit of the sequence in high school mathematics and introduce a new method using Excell program. Also through questionnaire survey we discuss and analyse students' reaction when they learn the notion of limit of the sequence. And based on that, we suggest a method that would be believed to improve the students' understanding for the notion of limit It should be also notified that questionnaire survey was performed in order to find out which method would be appropriate to teach the notion of limit of the sequence, and that the survey result was fully reflected in the guideline that suggested.

  • Finite element Galerkin solutions for the strongly damped extensible beam equations are considered. The semidiscrete scheme and a fully discrete time Galerkin method are studied and the corresponding stability and error estimates are obtained. Ratios of numerical convergence are given.

  • In this paper, we selected 145 students from engineering college students who took P University's the Scholastic Level Assessment and registered the Basic Mathematics Class among the students who achieved 4th~7th grade in the mathematics B-type of the College Scholastic Ability Test. We compared and analyzed the correlation among the chosen students' grade for the College Scholastic Ability Test, test results of the Scholastic Level Assessment and mid-term test of the Basic Mathematics Subject, type of college entrance and actual condition survey of students in order to derive optimized teaching method for general mathematics subjects which can possibly increase the students' academic ability.
