  • Radiation recall is an uncommon phenomenon in which administration of a chemotherapy or another systemic agent induces an acute inflammatory reaction in previously irradiated tissues, often weeks to years after completion of radiotherapy. Gemcitabine can induce an inflammatory reaction within an area of prior radiation. Radiation recall is known to medical oncologists, however only few cases have been reported in Korean journals, therefore physiatrist who diagnose and treat the treatment-related physical impairments of cancer patients must know about it. We emphasize the importance of knowledge of this phenomenon when considering the differential diagnosis of painful limb edema in a patient who has received cancer treatment.

Methods: Electronic databases were searched, including RISS, KMbase, and KCI. Eight studies from 21 references screened were included in the analysis. Results: The number of studies related to the image of EMTs is severely lacking. The research methods and participants are limited to questionnaire surveys and EMT students, respectively. In addition, most of the studies used modified tools developed for image measurement of other occupations. Conclusion: Image research for EMTs should include various methods and participants. • Purpose : The aim of this study is to analyse the research productivity of SCI publications at medical schools in Korea. Methods: We collected the 5,386 SCI publications from 10 medical schools that were published in 2002 and 2003. Most of the materials treated herein are derived from the database of the Institute of Scientific Information from April 13, to May 25, 2005. Values are analyzed by medical school, major and IF index and presented as frequency and percentages. Results : There were 2,350 publications in 2002 and 3,036 publications in 2003. The average publication rate per faculty was .71 in 2002 and it was increased to .90 in 2003. Of the total 5,386 manuscripts, 1.248(23.2%) papers were from work conducted at basic science department and 3,224(76.8%) were from work performed at clinical science department. The major such as pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, internal medicine, diagnostic radiology and dermatology published a lot of SCI papers. A large percentage of papers (41.74%) were in journals with reported l<=IF<3. Conclusions : There was wide variability in the research productivity among the medical schools or majors. This variability reflects the importance of the institutional characteristics of each medical school in predicting the research productivity. Some of these institutional characteristics include the size of the faculty. available research funding, research vision of medical school, visible system of measurement and any associated reward system.

The search included all research for which articles included words relating to "diets and breast cancer". Population and national income data were obtained from publicly available databases. Impact factors for journals were obtained from Journal Citation Reports$^{(R)}$ (Thomson Scientific). There were 2,396 publications from 60 countries in 384 journals with an impact factor. Among them, 1,652 (68.94%) publications were Original articles. The United States had the highest quantity (51% of total) and highest of mean impact factor (8.852) for publication. Sweden had the highest productivity of publication when adjusted for number of population (6 publications per million population). Publications from the Asian nation increased from 5.3% in 2006 to 14.6% in 2012. The Original article type was also associated with geography (p<0.001; OR=2.183; 95%CI=1.526-3.123), Asian countries produced more proportion of Original articles (82%) than those of rest of the world (67.6%). Diets and breast cancer-associated research output continues to increase annually worldwide including publications from Asian countries. Although the United States produced the most publications, European nations per capita were higher in publication output.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate any clinical studies regarding rhinitis published by the Korean Oriental Medical Society and its sub-societies for future rigorous clinical research. Methods: Every article relevant to rhinitis was initially obtained from journals of the Korean Oriental Medical Society and its sub-societies by electronic search at journal web sites or manual searches. Journals were limited to those registered with the Korea Research Foundation. From initial findings, two independent reviewers selected clinical articles and these articles were further analyzed separately by predefined criteria according to prospective and retrospective studies. For prospective studies, quality assessment was also conducted. Results: From 36 initially obtained articles, 17 were finally analyzed. 2 articles were randomized controlled studies, 6 articles were prospective whereas 9 were retrospective. In the prospective articles, there were no randomized controlled trials and the other non-randomized studies had no control group with several problems of quality regarding pre-calculated study size and unbiased assessment. None of the retrospective studies described rhinitis diagnosis objectively and outcome measures were either non-relevant to rhinitis or non-validated. Conclusions: Further well-designed randomized controlled studies for rhinitis are mandatory and more rigorous non-randomized controlled studies should be conducted.
