  • The non-linear structural analysis of reinforced concrete beams in fire consists of three separate steps: (i) The estimation of the rise of surrounding air temperature due to fire; (ii) the determination of the distribution of the temperature within the beam during fire; (iii) the evaluation of the mechanical response due to simultaneous time-dependent thermal and mechanical loads. Steps (ii) and (iii) are dealt with in the present paper. We present a two-step computational procedure where a 2D transient thermal analysis over the cross-sections of beams are made first, followed by mechanical analysis of the structure. Fundamental to the accuracy of the mechanical analysis is a new planar beam finite element. The effects of plasticity in concrete, and plasticity and viscous creep in steel are taken into consideration. The properties of concrete and steel along with the values of their thermal and mechanical parameters are taken according to the European standard ENV 1992-1-2 (1995). The comparison of our numerical and full-scale experimental results shows that the proposed mechanical and 2D thermal computational procedure is capable to describe the actual response of reinforced concrete beam structures to fire.

  • Hot stamping, which is the hot pressing of special steel sheet using a cold die, can combine ease of shaping with high strength mechanical properties due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching. In this paper, a thermo-mechanical analysis of hot stamping using the finite element method in conjunction with phase transformations was performed in order to investigate the plastic deformation behavior, temperature history, and mechanical properties of the stamped car part. We also conducted a fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis during the stamping and rapid quenching process to obtain the mechanical properties with the consideration of the effects of plastic deformation and phase transformation on the temperature histories at each point in the part. The finite element analysis could provide key information concerning the temperature histories and the sheet mechanical properties when the phase transformation is properly considered. Such an analysis can also be used to determine the effect of cyclic cooling on the tooling.

  • In this paper the time-dependent creep analysis of a thick-walled FG cylinder with finite length subjected to axisymmetric mechanical and thermal loads are presented. First order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used for description of displacement components. Inner and outer temperatures and outer pressure are considered as thermo-mechanical loadings. Both thermal and mechanical loadings are assumed variable along the axial direction using the sinusoidal distribution. To find temperature distribution, two dimensional heat transfer equation is solved using the required boundary conditions. The energy method and Euler equations are employed to reach final governing equations of the cylinder. After determination of elastic stresses and strains, the creep analysis can be performed based on the Yang method. The results of this research indicate that the boundaries have important effects on the responses of the cylinder. The effect of important parameters of this analysis such as variable loading, non-homogeneous index of functionally graded materials and time of creep is studied on the behaviors of the cylinder.

  • In this study, simulation on the powder compression forming of oilless bearing is performed and the analysis results are compared with the actual products. This study aims to examine the suitability of powder compression for bearing by using FEA(finite element analysis) before full-scale production. The lubrication state can be predicted by changing the coefficient of friction in order to get the optimal density gradient. Analysis for single and double action presses are performed and these results are compared with each other. State and process of optimal lubrication are proposed from the study result.

  • An analysis was conducted to predict the behavior of gasket by applying an optimal-strain energy-density function selected through a uniaxial tensile test and an analysis of the gasket used in an actual hydrogen fuel cell. Among the models compared to predict the materials' properties, the Mooney-Rivlin secondary model showed the behavior most similar to the test results. The maximum stress of the gasket was not significantly different, depending on the location. The maximum surface pressure of the gasket was higher at positions "T" and "Y" than at other positions, owing to the branch-shape effect. In the future, a jig that can measure the surface pressure will be manufactured and a comparative verification study will be conducted between the test results and the analysis results.

  • In this study, finite element fatigue analysis combined with a fatigue correlation factor is proposed to predict the bending fatigue life of a gear in an electro-mechanical aircraft actuator. First, stress-life curves are obtained for the gear material via a round bar fatigue test. Subsequently, stochastic stress-life (P-S-N) curves are derived for 50% and 1% failure probabilities, separately. The curves are applied to the fatigue analysis model of a single gear tooth, and the effect of the fatigue correction factor is analyzed. The analytical P-S-N curves reflecting the fatigue correction factor matched the experimental data. This shows that the analytical fatigue life is reliable and that the analysis technique is effective.

  • In times of war or emergencies, weapon systems, such as radars, must receive stable power. This can be achieved using improved onboard portable power systems made of steel containers. However, a breakdown can occur in the event of random vibration during transportation via a vehicle or train. Electrical-power shortages or restrictions pose a significant threat to security. In this study, Composite Wheeled Vehicle(CWV) data and rail cargo data with Acceleration Spectral Density(ASD), specified in MIL-STD-810H METHOD 514.8, were interpreted as input data of the three-axis random vibration method using ANSYS 19.2. Modal analysis was performed up to 500 Hz, and deformations in modes 1 to 117 were calculated to utilize all ASD data. The maximum equivalent stress in the three-axis direction was obtained using a random vibration analysis. Similarly, the margin of safety was calculated using the derived equivalent stress and material properties. Overall, the analysis verified that the portable container designed for the power supply system satisfied the required vibration demands.

  • This study considered the experimental parameters (Nano-graphene oxide reinforced polycarbonate, GFRP) under low-velocity impact load and vibration analysis. The effect of nano-graphene oxide (NGO) on a polycarbonate-based composite was studied. Two test procedures were adopted to obtain experimental results, vibration analysis. The mechanical tests were performed on damaged and non-damaged specimens to determine the damaging effect on the composite specimens. After the test was carried out, the effect of NGO was measured and damping factors were ascertained experimentally. 0. 2 wt% NGO was determined as the optimum amount that best affected the Vibration Analysis. The experiments revealed that the composite's damping properties were increased by adding the nanoparticles to 0.25 wt% and decreased slightly for the specimens with the highest nanoparticles content. Cyclic sinus loading was applied at a frequency of 3.5 Hz. This paper study the frequency effect of 3.5khz frequency damage on mechanical results. Found that high frequency will worthlessly affect the fatigue life in NGO/polycarbonate composite. In 3.5 Hz frequency, it was chosen to decrease the heat by frequency. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs were used to investigate the distribution of NGO on the polycarbonate matrix and revealed a homogeneous mixture of nano-composites and strong bonding between NGO and the polycarbonate which increased the damping properties and decreased vibration. Finally, experimental modal analysis was conducted after the high-velocity impact damage process to investigate the defect on the NGO polycarbonate composites.

  • In this study, the effects of combined environmental factors on mechanical and thermal analysis properties of graphite/epoxy composites were evaluated by the use of an accelerated aging test. Environmental factors such as temperature, moisture. and ultraviolet were considered. A xenon-arc lamp was utilized for ultraviolet light. and exposure times of up to 3000 hours were applied. Several types of specimens - tensile. bending, and shear specimens those are transverse to the fiber direction, and bending specimens those are parallel to the tiber direction - were used to investigate the effects of environmental factors on mechanical properties of the composites. Also, glass transition temperature, storage shear modulus, loss shear modulus, and tan ${\delta}$ were measured as a function of exposure times through a dynamic mechanical analyzer. In addition. a suitable testing method for determining the effect of environmental factors on mechanical properties is suggested by comparing the results from using two different types of strain measuring sensors. Finally, composite surfaces exposed to environmental factors were examined using a scanning electron microscope.
