  • The Elasto-magnetic sensor is applied to detect the local cross-sectional loss of steel cables in this study while it was originally developed for measuring the tensile force in the previous works. To verify the feasibility of the proposed damage detection technique, steel bars which have 4-different diameters were fabricated and the output voltage value was measured at each diameter by the E/M sensor. Optimal input voltage and working point are chosen so that the linearity and resolution of results can ensure through repeated experiments, and then the E/M sensor was measured the output voltage values at the damage points of steel bar specimen that was applied the 4 types of damage condition based on the selected optimal experimental condition. This proposed approach can be an effective tool for steel cable health monitoring.

  • Purpose : The presence and degree of fever in children is a useful indicator of illness. This project aimed to assess the accuracy and usefulness of infrared tympanic membrane(TM) & forehead feverscan thermometers for measuring children's temperatures. Methods : Data were obtained from 1,050 children with a median age of 4.5 years. They visited the pediatric clinics at Chung-Ang University Yongsan Hospital from January 2004 to December 2004. We measured body temperatures at axilla by mercury thermometer, at ear by infrared TM thermometer and at forehead by feverscan. Then we analyzed the correlation between these data. Results : Mercury and TM thermometer, and Mercury and forehead feverscan thermometer very well correlated with each others(P<0.05). And the sensitivity of infrared TM thermometer(right and left) to correctly identify febrile children was 81.1 percent and 82.4 percent, the positive predictive value to detect a fever was 81.8 percent and 73.6 percent. The sensitivity of forehead feverscan was 83.3 percent and the positive predictive value was 74.4 percent. Conclusion : The tympanic membrane temperature measured by the BRAUN IRT $3020^{(R)}$ and forehead arterial temperature measured by the HubDIC $DOTORY^{(R)}$ feverscan accurately reflects mercury axillary temperature, validly assesses the presence of fever in children, and is easy to use. The Braun IRT $3020^{(R)}$ & HubDIC $DOTORY^{(R)}$ therefore is an adequate tool to assess fever and may be used both in a clinical setting and for research purposes.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a meditation application to promote home practice in a meditation-based intervention program and test its effects. In most cases, meditation-based intervention programs put an emphasis on home practice, which means it is an important matter to increase motivation for home practice and encourage people to do home practice more. The investigator administered an eight-week Korean Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (K-MBSR) program to college students participating in a liberal arts course at A University. While the experiment group (N = 22) received a meditation application, the comparison group (N = 19) received no meditation application. The amount of home practice was measured based on the practice logs kept by the participants. The difference in psychological effects between the groups was checked by measuring mindfulness, subfactors (noticing and return to body) of body awareness, life satisfaction, acceptance action, and sleep quality before and after the experiment. The findings show that the experiment group recorded significantly greater amounts of home practice than the comparison group. As for the effects of meditation, the experiment group recorded higher points in mindfulness, body awareness, life satisfaction, acceptance action, and sleep quality than the comparison group. These findings demonstrate that a meditation application can be useful as a means of assistance to promote the effects of a meditation-based intervention program. The study also discussed proposals for a follow-up study.

  • As interest in advanced countries regarding the convergence technology development increases, a methodology for identifying the core convergence technology that has a large spill-over effect on the technology and industry is required for the nation's competitiveness enhancement in the convergence technology field. Based on patent citation network analysis using 1,124 USPTO patents in the ICT convergence technology field of the smart factory, this study examined the proposed heterogeneous technology convergence index as a tool for measuring the convergence characteristics of the spillovers compared to other indexes (i.e. other sector ratio index and homogeneous technology convergence index). The proposed heterogeneous technology convergence index was used to investigate core technology sectors among ICT technology sectors of smart factory identified by government ministries. Results found 6 core ICT convergence technology sectors including the manufacturing execution analysis application sector. Also, this study conducted blockmodeling analysis using the IPC codes of patents in the manufacturing execution analysis application sector, and identified that the blocks representing the electronic communication and electric digital data processing technology sectors (Block 3 & 4) are related technology sectors which can be converged with core technology. Based on the findings, the implications for the convergence technology development planning of the smart factory field are discussed.

  • In this study, we analyzed radiation dose and MTF with setting of Ion chamber and changing kVp so that we are able to suggest acquiring optimized diagnostic images and minimizing patient dose. we assumed right lateral decubitus position among chest decubitus projection and set 7 combination of Ion chamber. By changing kVp(100, 110, 120, 130kVp), we exposed x-ray five times respectively and calculated average value after measuring entrance dose. we input the entrance dose value to PCXMC Monte carlo simulation tool and calculated organ dose and effective dose. Then we did physical image evaluation with MTF for the purpose to compare image quality. As a result, the high kVp, entrance dose is reduced. As change of ion chamber, when selecting second ion chamber, both organ dose and effective dose were the lowest. In contrast, selecting first ion chamber was the highest. MTF is superior to set second Ion chamber and using 120 kVp. Consequently, when taking chest right lateral decubitus using Digital radiography, the optimized combination which have both reducing dose efficiently without declining image quality and aquring good qualified image is set 120 kVp and selecting second Ion chamber.
