The purpose of this study was to analyze the elementary students' mathematical thinking, which is found during mathematical problem solving processes based on mathematical knowledge, heuristics, control, and mathematical disposition. The participants were 8 fifth grade elementary students in Seoul. A qualitative case study was used for investigating the students' mathematical thinking. The data were coded according to the four components of the students' mathematical thinking. The results of the analyses concerning mathematical thinking of the elementary students were as follows: First, in terms of mathematical knowledge, the elementary students frequently used conceptual knowledge, procedural knowledge and informal knowledge during problem solving processes. Second, students tended not to find new heuristics or apply new one, but they only used the heuristics acquired from the experiences of the class and prior experiences. Third, control was found while students were solving problems. Last, mathematical disposition influenced on the mathematical problem solving processes. Teachers need to in-depth observations on the problem solving processes of students, which leads to teachers'effective assistance on facilitating students' problem solving skills.

In this paper, we establish an explicit formula for r-Dowling numbers in terms of r-Whitney Lah and r-Whitney numbers of the second kind. This is a generalization of the Qi formula for Bell numbers in terms of Lah and Stirling numbers of the second kind. Moreover, we define the q, r-Dowling numbers, q, r-Whitney Lah numbers and q, r-Whitney numbers of the first kind and obtain several fundamental properties of these numbers such as orthogonality and inverse relations, recurrence relations, and generating functions. Hence, we derive an analogous Qi formula for q, r-Dowling numbers expressed in terms of q, r-Whitney Lah numbers and q, r-Whitney numbers of the second kind.

A previous work gave a combinatorial description of the crystal B(${\infty}$), in terms of certain simple Young tableaux referred to as the marginally large tableaux, for finite dimensional simple Lie algebras. Using this result, we present an explicit description of the crystal B(${\lambda}$), in terms of the marginally large tableaux, for the $G_2$ Lie algebra type. We also provide a new description of B(${\lambda}$), in terms of Nakajima monomials, that is in natural correspondence with our tableau description.

In this paper, we derive a characterization of orthonormal balanced multiwavelets of order p in terms of the continuous moments of the multiscaling function $\phi$. As a result, the continuous moments satisfy the discrete polynomial preserving properties of order p (or degree p - 1) for orthonormal balanced multiwavelets. We derive polynomial reproduction formula of degree p - 1 in terms of continuous moments for orthonormal balanced multiwavelets of order p. Balancing of order p implies that the series of scaling functions with the discrete-time monomials as expansion coefficients is a polynomial of degree p - 1. We derive an algorithm for computing the polynomial of degree p - 1.

We prove the non-existence of warped product GCR-lightlike submanifolds of the type K_⊥ × _λ K_T such that K_T is a holomorphic submanifold and K_⊥ is a totally real submanifold in an indefinite Kaehler manifold $\tilde{K}$. Further, the existence of GCR-lightlike warped product submanifolds of the type K_T × _λ K_⊥ is obtained by establishing a characterization theorem in terms of the shape operator and the warping function in an indefinite Kaehler manifold. Consequently, we find some necessary and sufficient conditions for an isometrically immersed GCR-lightlike submanifold in an indefinite Kaehler manifold to be a GCR-lightlike warped product, in terms of the canonical structures f and ω. Moreover, we also derive a geometric estimate for the second fundamental form of GCR-lightlike warped product submanifolds, in terms of the Hessian of the warping function λ.

In this paper, we establish an evaluation formula to calculate the Wiener integral of polynomials in terms of natural dual pairings on abstract Wiener spaces (H, B, 𝜈). To do this we first derive a translation theorem for the Wiener integral of functionals associated with operators in 𝓛(B), the Banach space of bounded linear operators from B to itself. We then apply the translation theorem to establish an integration by parts formula for the Wiener integral of functionals combined with operators in 𝓛(B). We finally apply this parts formula to evaluate the Wiener integral of certain polynomials in terms of natural dual pairings.

After introducing Tropical Algebraic Varieties, we give a polyhedral description of tropical hypersurfaces. Using TOPCOM and GAP, we show that there exist 59 types of two dimensional tropical quadric surfaces. We also show a criterion for a quadric hypersurface to be non-degenerate in terms of a tropical rank.

In this paper, we classify non-developable ruled surfaces in a Euclidean 3-spaces satisfying some algebraic equations in terms of the second mean curvature, the mean curvature and the Gaussian curvature.
