  • The main aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between thickness and height of the axially symmetric cylindrical reinforced concrete (RC) walls by the help of a meta-heuristic optimization procedure. The material cost of the wall which includes concrete, reinforcement and formwork, was chosen as objective function of the optimization problem. The wall thickness, compressive strength of concrete and diameter of reinforcement bars were defined as design variables and tank volume, radius and height of the wall, loading condition and unit cost of material were defined as design constants. Numerical analyses of the wall were conducted by using superposition method (SPM) considering ACI 318-Building code requirements for structural concrete. The optimum wall thickness-height relationship was investigated under three main cases related with compressive strength of concrete and density of the stored liquid. According to the results, the proposed method is effective on finding the optimum design with minimum cost.

  • In modern fashion, accessories are recognized as indispensable articles for the completion of a look. Scarf and muffler has attained significance as a main fashion item. The purpose of study was to analyze the motifs of special material for muffler design on special material, and to seek unique and decorative effect using three dimensional method on the flat surfaced textile to give novelty. This study introduced technique of applying embroidery onto special materials such as fur and leather to achieve variety of texture effect. The results are as follows: Six designs were proposed. Each work has different detail and silhouette, and the unique motif design using embroidery with cotton, nylon, and bead on fur, leather, wool, and satin. This will be a method to develop value-added products in fashion and formative arts.

  • In this paper, dc reactor lot the inductive high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) was optimally designed by finite element method(FEM). The Prototype high-Tc do reactor was manufactured and compared to the results of design. This dc reactor consists of 4∼stacked double pancake coils which are wounded with Bi-2223 wire coated with SUS315L. Kapton tape is used for the insulation of turn to turn and layer to layer. Each pancake is connected in series by soldering Finally, optimal design and manufacture method lot the dc reactor is suggested in this paper. Through the comparison of result of optimal design and experimental result of prototype high-Tc superconducting dc reactor, reliance on the design of the high-Tc dc reactor tot the 1.2 kV/80 A SFCL is proved.

  • Neutron production rate in spherically convergent beam fusion(SCBF) device as a portable neutron source strongly depends on the ion current and the grid cathode structure. In this paper, as the process of design and analysis, Design of Experiment(DOE) based on the results by Finite Element Method-Flux Corrected Transport(FEM-FCT) method is employed to calculate the ion current. This method is very useful to find optimal design conditions in a short time. Number of rings, radius of rings, and distance between the grid cathode and center are selected as control factors. From the results in the optimized model, the higher ion current is calculated and deeper potential well is also observed.

  • Recently developed automotive components are of lightweight nature, providing automobiles with a high fuel efficiency and performance. In response to those trends of car developments, this study proposes a structural optimization method for the lower control ann. Lightweight design of lower control am can be achieved through two approaches: design and material technology. In this research, the former includes optimization technology, and the latter the technologies for selecting aluminum as a steel-substitute material. In this research, the design of experiments(DOE) built in ANSYS WORKBENCH are utilized to determine the optimum shape of a Lower Control Arm. And optimum design is compared first model and reduced design variable model that considered sensitivity using orthogonal array.

  • Currently, the structural material, namely glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) is focused on innovative structure due to lightness, excellent workability and noncorrosive characteristics, etc. However, the lack of GFRP connection technology produces only an imitation of steel and wood structures. This uses univentive design principles as well as unsuitable material applications, causes tons of surplus of materials to be wasted, and results in uneconomical structures, because the characteristics between steel and GFRP are completely different. Thus, this research develops the new, innovative GFRP connection system with considerations of the characteristics of GFRP and adopts it to a mobile und modular membrane pavilion.

  • The Tuck, an important component of modem clothing design, was analyzed through various sources of literature comprised chiefly of domestic and imported fashion magazines from 2000 to 2003. The results were as follows: 1) The Tuck was organized in horizontal, perpendicular, oblique and radial directions. Application methods included repetition, gradation, radial arrangement, sequence and alternation of individual lines. 2) The Tuck was found in a variety of forms and uses. But due to structural characteristics, its function is more psychological and aesthetic than functional. The aesthetic properties of the Tuck included rhythm, optical illusion, abstraction, and material. The structural property of the Tuck occasionally substituted bust or waist darts. 3) The individuality and originality of the Tuck was used in unpredictable ways to give spatial ornamentality and emphasis on material. This enabled aesthetically unique designs to arise. To summarize, the Tuck, a component of clothing design as a formative art, was used in a variety of methods towards developing creative clothing design.

  • Recently, the Korean medical system changed with diversification & specialization and the field of medical service is also specialized in these days. The medical space settings are usually designed for staff needs rather than for patient needs. but The purpose of this project was to identify the design elements for the patient-focused. Main keyword of this project is 'high touch' and basic design concept is 'a sense of stability/velocity'. This medical space is located in Sanbon, and it has an area of 171m$^2$. The material scheme in the interior design of medical space is an important factor for the hospital users. Painting, stainless steel, wood veneer, fabric and p-tile were used as interior finishing material.

  • This design plan aims at the designing of the pharmacy counter as the space in which the two inter-related elements of the pharmacy, for example, the pharmacist and the customers, selling medicines and transmitting health informations, etc. keep in contact with each other. To create an ambience of intercommunication for health care and relaxation, it must be set up the basic concepts like Functionality, Flexibility, Transparence and Material-Change. As the design solutions : - first of all the long counter must be divided into the independent places with character and function. - in accordance with the basic concepts functionality and flexibility each small counter must represent a one's own form language that is determined according to a given function and also open and flexible to the change of the situation. - the various kinds of display module are introduced to bring out the functionality and the aestheticity simultaneously. - to make a contrasting image to each other various materials are arranged on and around the counters.

  • This paper represents the response surface model for the cell gap on the flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) process. Using response surface methodology (RSM). D-optimal design is carried out to build the design space and the cell gap is characterized by the quadratic model. The statistical analysis is used to verify the response surface model. This modeling technique can predict the characteristics of the desired response, cell gap, varying with process conditions.
