  • Reverse convertible fund is a method of investment assuring both profit and stability in an unstable stock market, and shares characteristics of a hedge fund and derivative securities. This study analyzes empirically whether reverse convertible funds can indeed serve as a new method in variable stock market environment to provide high profit with low risks especially in the Korean stock market.

Empirical Analysis on Labor Market Slackness and Monetary Policy Implications in Korea (우리나라 노동시장의 유휴생산능력 추정 및 통화정책에 대한 시사점 분석)

  • After the global financial crisis, doubts have been raised about the usefulness of traditional unemployment rate for the labor market slackness, hence, this study provides alternative indicators that can help estimate the labor market slackness in Korea, and investigates the degree of biasness of traditional indices of Korean labor market. In particular, this study intends to focus on the possibility of employing the labor underutilization index officially announced by Statistics Korea (KOSIS) from 2015. To do this, we first define the labor underutilization indices from 2003 to 2014 by applying current definitions of labor underutilization indices retrospectively to these periods. Based on these indices, the empirical analysis shows that the employment gap using labor underutilization indices is highly correlated with total output gap, and has significantly improved the performance of forecasting inflation rate compared to other labor market slackness indicators.

  • This study's purpose is to forecast the market demand of UVS (u-Transportation Vehicle Sensor) OBU (On-board Unit) of the ubiquitous Transportation. Bass model, Logistic model, and Gompertz model were used for the forecasting market demand. Firstly, this research focused on the market size for the u-T OBU. All three models were used for the market size prediction and the average values were used. The Bass model were calibrated and the market demand for the UVS OBU of the u-Transportation system were estimated using this model.

The Relationship between Capital Composition and Market Share in the Global Shipping Market (글로벌 해운시장에서 기업의 자본구조와 시장점유율의 관계)

  • This study is to define the relationship between capital structure and the market share in the global shipping market, estimating the debt-equity ratio. To analyze the impact of the debt-equity ratio on market share, this study collected data from the 100 largest shipping companies from 2010 to 2017. Results identified that global shipping lines moderate their debt-equity rates to 62%, and all of them strategically utilize debt in order to increase market share in global shipping market. In comparison between the group focused on cargo volume and another group focused on freight rates, it is found that the group focused on cargo volume increase their handling cargo volume through increasing the debt rates. Another group used debt rate for reducing the freight rate and enhancing market power. Furthermore, after classifying the samples into high-growth and low-growth companies, this study compared the group focused on cargo volume and another group focused on freight rates. As a result, the low-growth group showed more significant impacts of the debt rate on market share than the high-growth group. The results of this study provide useful insight for future strategic decision making of shipping lines in the global shipping market.

  • This paper formulates a monopolistic competition model by incorporating Leontief product function into Dixit and Stigliz model to analyze and compare the effects of two environmental policy instruments-fuel efficiency regulation and environmental tax-on a market which reflects characteristics of international vehicle market. As expected, both policy instruments raise equilibrium market prices. The effect of fuel efficiency regulation on firm output, the number of firms, and industry output, however, depends on three determinants-the increasing rate of the ratio of consumer expenditure to the income, the increasing rate of fixed cost, and the increasing rate of marginal cost. On the other hand, the imposition of the specific environmental tax reduces the firm output, but does not influence the number of firms. If these two instruments are assumed to lead to the same increasing rate of marginal costs, the environmental tax reduces the firm output as well as the industry output more than the fuel efficiency regulation. And it will induce more firms to exit the market than the fuel efficiency regulation if the increasing rate of the ratio of consumer expenditure to the income is larger than the increasing rate of fixed cost.

  • The long-term imbalances between supply and demand in office market can weaken urban growth since excessive supply of offices led to office market instability and excessive demand of offices weakens growth of urban industry. Recently, there have been a lot of new large-scale supplies, which increased volatility in Seoul office market. Nevertheless, new supply of Seoul office has not been fully examined. Given this, the focus of this article was on confirming the influences of profitability, replacement cost, and demand on new office supplies in Seoul. In examining those influences, another focus was on their relative influences over time. For these purposes, we analyzed quarterly data of Seoul office market between 2003 and 2015 using a vector error correction model (VECM). As a result, in terms of the influences on the current new supply, the impact of supply before the first quarter was negative, while that of office employment before the first quarter was positive. Also, that of interest rate before the second quarter was positive, while those of cap rate before the first quarter and cap rate before the second quarter were negative. Based on the findings, it is suggested that prediction models on Seoul offices need to be developed considering the influences of profitability, replacement cost, and demand on new office supplies in Seoul.

The Effects of Lowering the Statutory Maximum Interest Rate on Non-bank Credit Loans

  • This paper analyzes the effects of the cut in the legal maximum interest rate (from 27.4% to 24%) that occurred in February of 2018 on loan interest rates, the default rates, and the loan approval rate of borrowers in the non-banking sector. We use the difference-in-difference identification strategy to estimate the effect of the cut in the legal maximum interest rate using micro-level data from a major credit-rating company. The legal maximum rate cut significantly lowers the loan interest rate and default rate of low-credit borrowers (i.e., high-credit-risk borrowers) in the non-banking sector. However, this effect is limited to borrowers who have not been excluded from the market despite the legal maximum interest rate cut. The loan approval rate of low-credit borrowers decreased significantly after the legal maximum interest rate cut. Meanwhile, the loan approval rate of high-credit and medium-credit (i.e., low credit risk and medium credit risk) borrowers increased. This implies that financial institutions in the non-banking sector should reduce the loan supply to low-credit borrowers who are no longer profitable while increasing the loan supply to high- and medium-credit borrowers.

  • This study analysis the global market trends of information security industry expanding its area through the convergence with other technologies. domestic market of information security industry is expected to show a high growth rate, given that the share of the domestic market in the world market is very low, heightened awareness caused by several information accidents, and the expansion of physical information industry's exports. The crucial point to note is the prospect that the domestic market will be led by its product market, but global market will be spearheaded by its service market. Consequently, to overcome current slump, it is need to establish market promotion strategies focused on fostering the information security service market which is higher value added than information security product market.

House Rent Control System and Its Implementation in France (프랑스 주택 임대료 규제 및 관련 제도 연구)

  • Since year 2000, French housing and rent prices rose at a rapid rate and the housing market has been overheated. Face to this phenomena, the French government enacted a new law Alur which is a legislatif tool to control the private housing rent price for the cities, where the tension of the housing market is very high. This new law has impacted the housing market in two major ways. First, for the 38 cities designated by this law, the rent price's increase rate can not rise above the IRL, which is the rent reference index. Secondly, this law also permits local authorities to control the housing rent's price following the concrete price guidance. Especially in Paris, the city applicated this method for private rental housing since 2015. This city classified its own area by 14 zones. Based on the market surveys of each sector, local authority made a guidance for private housing rent's price. The guideline is consisted of average prices, maxima and minima price by types, which is classified by the construction year, number of rooms and furnished or not. Therefore, this study aims to understand french housing rent's price control system and draw implementation for korean housing rent policies. This research is meaningful for it introduces recent foreign regislations which could be helpful to control the housing market in Korea.

The Structure of the Short and the Long-Run Variations in the Domestic Bank Earnings (국내 은행수익성의 장단기적 변동구조)

  • This study analyzes the structure of the variations In the domestic bank earnings and examines their dynamic features by estimating the short-run response and the long-run adjustment Process after the changes in financial market variables. A system of the equations for the bank stock price index and KOSPI is formulated to utilize the whole information in the market and simultaneously estimated to identify the relationships between the market variables and the bank earnings. Since the bank stock price is found to be responsive to changes in none of the market variables in the short run, while being relatively responsive to dollar exchange rate and business state, It implies that a good economic conditions and a stable foreign exchange rate should be maintained to Improve the level of the stock price In the long run. In addition, the dynamic structure of the responses of the bank stock price index and KOSPI to the initial changes in the market variable are compared and anlayzed. The response of the bank stock price appears to take much longer in adjusting to the long-run eouilibrium level than that of KOSPI. As a result, the cumulative response of the bank stock price index over time is found much bigger than that of HOSPI.
