A Study on the Exclusive-OR-based Technology Mapping Method in FPGA

  • In this paper, we propose an AND/XOR-based technology mapping method for field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Due to the fixed size of the programmable blocks in an FPGA, decomposing a circuit into sub-circuits with appropriate number of inputs can achieve excellent implementation efficiency. Specifically, the proposed technology mapping method is based on Davio expansion theorem to decompose a given Boolean circuit. The AND/XOR nature of the proposed method allows it to operate on XOR intensive circuits, such as error detecting/correcting, data encryption/decryption, and arithmetic circuits, efficiently. We conduct experiments using MCNC benchmark circuits. When using the proposed approach, the number of CLBs (configurable logic blocks) is reduced by 67.6% (compared to speed-optimized results) and 57.7% (compared to area-optimized results), total equivalent gate counts are reduced by 65.5 %, maximum combinational path delay is reduced by 56.7 %, and maximum net delay is reduced by 80.5 % compared to conventional methods.

  • Mass-customization is fast growing a segment of the apparel market. 2D Virtual wearing system is one of visual support tools that make possible to sell apparel before producing and reduce the time and costs related to product development and manufacturing in the world of apparel mass-customization. This paper is related to fabric color mapping method for 2D image-based virtual wearing system. In proposed method, clothing shape section of interest is segmented from a clothes model image using a region growing method, and then mapping a new fabric color selected by user into it based on its intensity difference map is processed. With the proposed method in 2D virtual wearing system, regardless of color or intensity of model clothes, it is possible to virtually change the fabric color with holding the illumination and shading properties of the selected clothing shape section, and also to quickly and easily simulate, compare, and select multiple fabric color combinations for individual styles or entire outfits.

  • In this paper, we propose a scalable coding method for high dynamic range (HDR) and standard dynamic range (SDR) videos based on Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding (SHVC). The proposed method has multi-layer coding architecture that consists of base layer for SDR videos and enhancement layer for HDR videos to support the backward compatibility with legacy codec and display devices. Also, to improve coding efficiency of enhancement layers, a global inverse tone mapping is applied to the reconstructed SDR video and the compensated frames are referred for coding of the enhancement layer. The proposed method is found to achieve BD-Rate gain of 43.0% on average (maximum 76.3%) for the enhancement layer and 15.7% on average (maximum 31%) for dual-layer against the SHM 7.0 reference software.

  • When the same image is displayed in many different devices, the reproduced colors are not same due to the differences in the gamut between devices. Therefore, many gamut mapping method were proposed to solve this problem. In this paper, color discrimination enhancement gamut mapping method using color distribution rearrangement is proposed to reduce the unnecessary distortions by compression mapping and to minimize the decrease of color discrimination by clipping method. The proposed method constructs color distribution, the 3-dimension array of input image's colors. if the maximum of color distribution is within the boundary of printer gamut. the colors are mapped to the same colors. Otherwise, out-of-gamut colors are compressed into the printer gamut with minimum distortion. Consequently, the printer output image was highly consistent with the corresponding monitor image and had an enhanced color discrimination in region where high chroma varied linearly.

  • This paper summarizes a solution procedure for a large cylindrical structure mounted underneath a ship as a sonar. Vibration analysis of the water loaded structure is required to enhance the structural reliability as well as acoustic performance of the sonar. It is, however, often very difficult to solve such structures since they have many DOFs, considering the frequency of interest and the water-loading. The mode mapping method is proposed and verified to take into account the water-loading with the minimum DOF for the analysis. The cyclic symmetric method is then reviewed to show how the eigen properties of the full model can be obtained from the representative segment model. The solution procedure is finally proposed and applied successfully for a simplified water-loaded cylindrical array structure.

  • The Mobile Mapping System using the vehicle equipped the GPS, IMU, CCD Cameras is the effective system for the management of the road facilities, update of the digital map, and etc. If the geographic information which is acquired by the Mobile mapping System can be transmitted in realtime, users can process what they want using the latest data. In this research, the effective method was suggested for the transmission of the geographic information acquired by mobile mapping System such as position data, attitude data, and image data in the wireless internet environment in realtime.

  • 1990년대 휴대폰이 일반화가 시작된 이후 지금까지 수많은 종류의 휴대폰이 출시되어왔다. 종류가 다양해진 만큼 기능, 목적, 사용방법 또한 다변화 되었고, 이로 인해 매일같이 쏟아져 나오는 휴대폰의 기능 및 사용방법에 대해 유저들은 항상 새로운 방식을 익히도록 강요되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Key Card Arranging 기법을 활용하여 현재 모바일 기기 사용자들의 멘탈 모델에 적합한 최적의 Key Mapping에 대한 가이드라인을 제시함으로써 최소한의 노력으로 사용자들이 정보기기를 활용할 수 있도록 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 위하여 국내의 대표적인 6개 휴대폰 회사별로 선별된 테스트 서브젝트들을 선정하여 실험을 실시 하였으며, 구체적인 방법론은 다음과 같다. 우선 핸드폰 기기 내의 Hot Key에 대한 Key Mapping을 중심으로 Key Card Arranging 기법과 In-depth Interview 방법론을 활용하여 선정된 서브젝트들을 대상으로 사용자 멘탈 모델에 대한 데이터를 취합하였다. 취합된 자료를 중심으로 정량적 데이터 분석 방법을 활용, 사용자의 휴대폰 키 맵핑에 대한 이상적인 멘탈 모델을 제안하고, 최종적으로 본 연구를 통하여 사용자에게 최적의 경험을 제공하기 위하여 휴대폰 Key Mapping에 대한 가이드라인들을 제시한다.

  • For integrating and utilizing the statistical data, which is summarized by arbitrary areal unit such as demographics, with stellite imagery or other GIS data, areal unit of both data should be accorded. Dasymetric mapping is proposed as a useful method fur disaggregating the aggregated statistical data to finer areal unit or generating surface model from object data such as polygonal area. This research evaluate the effectiveness of dasymetric mapping by 1) summarizing the yellow page information by administrative district, 2) modeling the business density using dasymetric mapping, and 3) comparing the business densities of raw data and that of spatial interpolation result.

  • Sensor arrays based on chemical sensors produce multidimensional patterns of data that may be used discriminate between different chemicals. For the human observer, visualization of multidimensional data is difficult, since the eye and brain process visual information in two or three dimensions. To devise a simple means of data inspection from the response of sensor arrays, PCA (Principal Component Analysis) or Sammon's nonlinear mapping technique can be applied. The PCA, which is a well-known statistical method and widely used in data analysis, has disadvantages including data distortion and the axes for plotting the dimensionally reduced data have no physical meaning in terms of how different one cluster is from another. In this paper, we have investigated two techniques and proposed a combination technique of PCA and nonlinear Sammom mapping for visualization of multidimensional patterns to two dimensions using data sets from odor sensing system. We conclude the combination technique has shown more advantages comparing with the PCA and Sammon nonlinear technique individually.
