Two-stage emulsion polymerizations of hydrophobic monomers on hydrophilic seed polymer particles were carried out to make core-shell composite particles. It was found that the loci of polymerization in the second stage were the surface layer of the hydrophilic seed latex particles, and that it has resulted in the formation of either eccentric core-shell particles with the core exposed to the aqueous phase or aggregated nonspherical composite particles with the shell attached on the seed surface as many small separated particles. The driving force of these phenomena is related to the gain in free energy of the system in going from the hydrophobic polymer-water interface to hydrophilic polymer-water interface. Thermodynamic analysis of the present polymerization system, which was based on spreading coefficients, supported the likely occurrence of such nonspherical particles due to the combined effects of interfacial free energies and phase separation between the two polymer phases. A hypothetical pathway was proposed to prepare hydrophilic core-hydrophobic shell composite latex particles, which is based on the concept of opposing driving and resistance forces for the phase migration. It was found that the viscosity of the monomer-swollen polymer phase played important role in the formation of particle morphology.
During the last decade, electrospray (ES) techniques have been used as potential methods for preparing of core-shell materials. Depending on the architecture of nozzle and design of devices, the ES techniques includes monoaxial, coaxial, multiple coaxial nozzle ES and microfluidic ES devices. ES operates based on a basic principle, in which a spray of monodisperse droplets is formed by dispensing an electrically conductive liquid through a capillary charged to a sufficiently high potential. In review of many recent research papers, we take a closer look at ES techniques and their applications for fabrication of core-shell materials. Several advantages of ES technique compared with other methods were emphasized and it may be regarded as a potential tool for fabrication of core-shell materials current and near future.
The HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor of 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, has been under normal operation since its initial criticality in February, 1995. Many experiments should be safely performed to activate the utilization of the HANARO. A flow simulated test facility has been developed for the verification of structural integrity of those experimental facilities prior to loading In the HANARO. This test facility is composed of three major parts; a half-core structure assembly, flow circulation system and support system. The half-core structure assembly is composed of plenum, grid plate, core channel with flow tubes, chimney and dummy pool. The flow channels are to be filled with flow orifices to simulate similar flow characteristics to the HANARO. This paper describes an analysis of the flow distribution of the cote channel and compares with the test results. As results, the analysis showed similar flow characteristics compared with those in the test results.
In power electronics applications which switching frequency is below audible frequency, the acoustic noise and vibration design of magnetics are as important as the efficiency. In the case of the powder core, which is widely used in grid-connected inverters, many researches have been progressed in terms of efficiency. However, there are only few research have been progressed related with acoustic noise and vibrations. In this paper, the Sendust(Fe-Si-Al) powder core material which has low magnetostriction and low core loss is analyzed in terms of acoustic noise and vibration induced by Maxwell force and magnetostriction. Three building structures such as, rectangular, toroidal, and oval shape are designed for 4kW grid-connected inverter, because magnetic properties and the audible noises of the inductor are varied by magnetic core building structures. The effects of the Maxwell force and magnetostriction behaviors varied with core shapes are analyzed by finite element method and experiments. In addition, experiment results of the inductor efficiency are presented according to core building structures.
Motor core products are used as materials for electrical steel sheets and cold-rolled steel sheets according to the performance of motors. The cemented carbide material of the mold punch applied to the motor core material causes many troubles due to abrasion and burr problem. The selection of these materials has a great effect on the production life, mass production, product quality as well as mold life. The cemented carbide applied to the products of the motor core is recognized as a very important part. In this study, cold rolled steel sheet was applied to motor core SCP-1 steel 1.0mm, and The effects of abrasion and punching oil on the shear process were investigated for the selection of cemented carbide. Experiments were conducted to select and apply cemented carbide only for the motor core punch optimized for cold rolled steel. The results showed that the cemented carbide material of $CDK3^{***}$ produced the least wear and burrs.
A macroscopic cross section generation model was developed for the conceptual horizontal, compact high temperature gas reactor (HC-HTGR). Because there are many sources of spectral effects in the design and analysis of the core, conventional LWR methods have limitations for accurate simulation of the HC-HTGR using a neutron diffusion core neutronics simulator. Several super-cell model configurations were investigated to consider the spectral effect of neighboring cells. A new history variable was introduced for the existing library format to more accurately account for the history effect from neighboring nodes and reactivity control drums. The macroscopic cross section library was validated through comparison with cross sections generated using full core Monte Carlo models and single cell cross section for both 3D core steady-state problems and 2D and 3D depletion problems. Core calculations were then performed with the AGREE HTR neutronics and thermal-fluid core simulator using super-cell cross sections. With the new history variable, the super-cell cross sections were in good agreement with the full core cross sections even for problems with significant spectrum change during fuel shuffling and depletion.
This study is as for shale that attract recently geotechnical engineer more and more. like sedimentary rocks and metamorpic rocks, shales have many problem with anisotropy for stength and deformation and they have many problems with quick weathering progress and differential weathering of alternate bedding. In foreign countries, many renowned schalors, like Jaeger(1960),McLamore,Gray(1967),Donath(1972),Nova(1980),Hoek&Brown(1980),Ranamurthy(1985), have already studied for a variety of characteristic and announced high level results of their studies. In domestic also, there are many scholars who have announced high level research papers for shale. this study is a part of these stream. and this study not only analyzed strength anisotropy characteristic along with direction of testing(two-direction) by using point-load test(log-log method) but also compared uniaxial strength between the maximum saturated and dried condition. In this study, we also conducted slaking test. these results of slaking test show weathering characteristic of shales. also, we made the most of field data that obtained during slope stability project and we noticed that RQD measured in the field is much differ from drilled core RQD. In order to come close two different value or access to reality, we suggest new RQD method that artificially reduce RQD by separating core with light hand force.
We have implemented two-component spin-orbit relativistic effective core potential (SOREP) methods in an all-electron relativistic program DIRAC. This extends the capacity of the two-component SOREP method to many ground and excited state calculations in a single program. As the test cases, geometries and energies of the small halogen molecules were studied. Several two-component methods are compared by using spin-orbit and scalar relativistic effective core potentials. For the $I_2$ molecule, excitation energies of low-lying excited states agree well with those from corresponding all-electron methods. Efficiencies in SOREP calculations enhanced by using symmetries are also discussed briefly.
In this paper, we compared the characteristic of fault current liminting in the magnetic shielding type High-Tc superconducting fault current limiter(FCL) using both Piecewise linear magnetization curve and real magnetization one of iron core. From this paper, the characteristics of fault current limiting in both cases showed many differences. The latter has higher fault current than the former, because the saturation of iron core was reflected and more accumulated during fault. It is expected that the more exact characteristic of magnetic shielding type High-Tc superconducting FCL was obtained in the case of design and modeling.
The point we made in this paper is that, although detailed and precise three-dimensional (3D) whole-core transport calculations may be obtained in the future with massively parallel computers, they would have an application to only some of the problems of the nuclear industry, more precisely those regarding multiphysics or for methodology validation or nuclear safety calculations. On the other hand, typical design reactor cycle calculations comprising many one-point core calculations can have very strict constraints in computing time and will not directly benefit from the advances in computations in large scale computers. Consequently, in this paper we review some of the deterministic 3D transport methods which in the very near future may have potential for industrial applications and, even with low-order approximations such as a low resolution in energy, might represent an advantage as compared with present industrial methodology, for which one of the main approximations is due to power reconstruction. These methods comprise the response-matrix method and methods based on the two-dimensional (2D) method of characteristics, such as the fusion method.
