  • A smartphone has very limited input methods regardless of its various functions. In this respect, it is one alternative that sensor motion recognition can make intuitive and various user interface. In this paper, we recognize user's motion using acceleration sensor, magnetic field sensor, and gyro sensor in smartphone. We try to reduce sensing error by gradient descent algorithm because in single sensor it is hard to obtain correct data. And we apply vector quantization by conversion of rotation displacement to spherical coordinate system for elevated recognition rate and recognition of small motion. After vector quantization process, we recognize motion using HMM(Hidden Markov Model).

  • The method of measurement for contactless eddy-current conductivity using magnetic dipole field theory was suggested by M.C Chen[1], which calculate the eddy-current caused by exciting coil with Faraday's induction law. In this work, we have developed the apparatus for contactless measurement of conductivity or resistivity with the dipole field theory. The resistivity can be measured from several to a dozen $m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ range within maximum 30% error. At the high resistivity range above $100{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, the standard deviation of measurement was very large as the induced voltage of sensing coil is small so it was difficult to measure the value precisely.

  • The optical current transformer using Faraday effect is the sensor to measure current that flows in any conductor. This sensor doesn't undergo the magnetic saturation and effect of adjacent conductors. But this senor using bulk-glass sensing clement has crucial drawback. It is impossible that the sensor is mounted to conductor without breaking the closed-loop of light or conductor. So we developed the clamp-type optical current transformer and made an experiment.

  • Two concurrent signals of the pulse wave measured from both hands' radial artery in un-pressurization condition using the prototype model of two clip-type pulsimeters with a permanent magnet and Hall device are investigated. The phase differences of two pulse waves from 22 subjects have some distinct points according to the handedness. Thus, the propagation of the pulse wave calculated from phase difference is both fast and slow to each other. It is confirmed that this phenomenon comes from the difference of blood vessel hardness between right- and left-hand of each subject rather than a quantity of muscle.

  • Early detection in real-time response of slope movements ensures tremendous saving of lives and repair costs from catastrophic disaster Therefore, it is essential to constantly monitor the performance and integrity of slope-stabilizing structures such as Rock bolt, Nail and Pile during or after installation. We developed a novel monitoring system using Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)sensor. It's advantages are highly sensitivity, small dimension and electro-magnetic immunity. capability of multiplexing, system integrity, remote sensing - these serve real-time health monitoring of the structures. Real-time strain measurement by the signal processing program is shown graphically and it gives a warning sound when the monitored strain state exceeds a given threshold level so that any sign of abnormal disturbance on the spot can be easily perceived.

  • Optical fibre sensors have shown a potential to serve real time health monitoring of the structures. They can be easily embedded or attached to the structures and are not affected by the electro-magnetic field. Furthermore, they have the flexibility of the sensor size and very highly sensitive. In this study, we conducted several laboratory and field tests using a novel optical sensor based on Brillouin scattering. One of the advantages of this technique is that the bare fibre itself acts as sensing element without any special fibre processing or preparation. Test results have shown that BOTDR can be a great solution for sensor systems of Civil Engineering Smart Structures.

  • Coagulant feeding control is very important in the water treatment process. Coagulant feeding is related to the raw water quality such as turbidity, alkalinity, water temperature, pH and so on. However, since the process of chemical reaction has not been clarified so far, coagulant dosing rate has been decided by jar-test. In order to overcome the difficulty mentioned above, Fuzzy Neural Network to fuse fuzzy logic and neural network was proposed, and the scheme was applied to the automatic determination of coagulant dosing rate. This algorithm can automatically identify the if-then rules, tune the membership functions by utilizing expert's experimental data. The proposed scheme is evaluated by computer simulation and interfaced with coagulant feeder operated by magnetic flowmeter, control valve and PLC. It is shown that coagulant feeding according to real time sensing of water quality is very effective.
