By placing distributed generation power sources beside a big nonlinear load, these sources can be used as a power quality enhancer, while injecting some active power to the network. In this paper, a new scheme to use the distributed generation power source in both operation modes is presented. In this scheme, a fuzzy controller is added to adjust the optimal set point of inverter between compensating mode and maximum active power injection mode, which works based on the harmonic content of the nonlinear load. As the high order current harmonics can be easily rejected using passive filters, the DG is used to compensate the low order harmonics of the load current. Multilevel transformerless cascade inverters are preferred in such utilization, as they have more flexibility in current/voltage waveform. The proposed scheme is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK to evaluate the circuit performance. Then, a 1kw single phase prototype of the circuit is used for experimental evaluation of the paper. Both simulative and experimental results prove that such a circuit can inject a well-controlled current with desired harmonics and THD, while having a smaller switching frequency and better efficiency, related to previous 3-phase inverter schemes in the literature.

An InGaP/GaAs MMIC LC VCO designed with Harmonic Noise Frequency Filtering(HNFF) technique is presented. In this VCO, internal inductance is found to lower the phase noise, based on an analytic understanding of phase noise. This VCO directly drives the on-chip double balanced mixer to convert RF carrier to IF frequency through local oscillator. Furthermore, final power performance is improved by output amplifier. This paper presents the design for a 1.721 GHz enhanced LC VCO, high power double balance mixer, and output amplifier that have been designed to optimize low phase noise and high output power. The presented asymmetric inductance tank(AIT) VCO exhibited a phase noise of -133.96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset and a tuning range from 1.46 GHz to 1.721 GHz. In measurement, on-chip down-converter shows a third-order input intercept point(IIP3) of 12.55 dBm, a third-order output intercept point(OIP3) of 21.45 dBm, an RF return loss of -31 dB, and an IF return loss of -26 dB. The RF-IF isolation is -57 dB. Also, a conversion gain is 8.9 dB through output amplifier. The total on-chip down-converter is implanted in 2.56${\times}$1.07 mm$^2$ of chip area.
A standard repetitive controller (RC) is theoretically able to replace a bank of resonant controllers in harmonic signals tracking applications. However, the traditional RC has some drawbacks such as a poor dynamic response and a complex structure to compensate grid frequency deviations for an effective unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) control scheme. In order to solve these problems, an improved RC with an outstanding dynamic response and a simplified grid frequency adaptive scheme is proposed for UPQC control systems in this paper. The control strategy developed for the UPQC has delay time, i.e., one-sixth of a fundamental period (Tp/6), repetitive controllers. As a result, the UPQC system can provide a fast dynamic response along with good compensation performance under both nonlinear and unbalanced loads. Furthermore, to guarantee the excellent performance of the UPQC under grid frequency deviations, a grid frequency adaptive scheme was developed for the RC using a simple first order Padé's approximation. When compared with other approaches, the proposed control method is simpler in structure and requires little computing time. Moreover, the entire control strategy can be easily implemented with a low-cost DSP. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified through various experimental tests.

To provide model parameters for servo control system design, dynamic characteristics of a piezoelectric microactuator for hard disk drive(HDD) were investigated. At first frequency response characteristics was measured and a second order model was proposed. Here the amplitude dependent dynamic characteristics such as low frequency gain and damping ratio were studied. In addition, the load current and equivalent impedance of the piezoelectric actuator were measured by varying excitation voltage and frequency. At last, the super-harmonic resonance of the piezoelectric actuator was discussed.
The low-lying electronic states of diazirine and 3,3'-dimethyldiazirine have been studied by high level ab initio quantum chemical methods. The equilibrium geometries of the ground state and the first excited singlet and triplet states have been optimized using the Hartree-Fock (HF) and complete active space SCF (CASSCF) methods, as well as using the Møller-Plesset second order perturbation (MP2) theory and the single configuration interaction (CIS) theory. It was found that the first excited singlet state is of 1 B1 symmetry resulting from the n- π* transition, while the first excited triplet state is of 3 B2 symmetry resulting from the π- π* transition. The harmonic vibrational frequencies have been calculated at the optimized geometry of each electronic state, and the scaled frequencies have been compared with the experimental frequencies available. The adiabatic and vertical transition energies from the ground electronic state to the low-lying electronic states have been estimated by means of multireference methods based on the CASSCF wavefunctions, i.e., the multiconfigurational quasidegenerate second order perturbation (MCQDPT2) theory and the CASSCF second-order configuration interaction (CASSCF-SOCI) theory. The vertical transition energies have also been calculated by the CIS method for comparison. The computed transition energies, particularly by MCQDPT2, agree well with the experimental observations, and the electronic structures of the molecules have been discussed, particularly in light of the controversy over the existence of the so-called second electronic state.

Because of falling-off in power quality by harmonics, obstacles like lowering of capability, noise, vibration of power facilities and so on are occurred. Also generation of harmonics is inevitable and the point at harmonics is seriously gathering strength because energy saving installation using semiconductor circuit as countermeasures to enhance energy efficiency will be broadly spread and the use of energy conversion equipment like motor speed control contrivance, energy keeping installation and so on will increase, in the future. In order to eliminate harmonics obstacle, precision measurement and analysis on voltage, current, power factor, the each ingredient of harmonic order, the percentage of total harmonic distortion, and so forth are needed. In this paper, we developed low-cost measurement system to measure and analyze power quality connected with harmonics and verified it's performance by measuring and analyzing power quality in the three-phase and four-wire system.
A new type low-pass filter design method based on a coupled line and transmission line theory is proposed to suppress harmonics by attenuation poles in the stop band. The design formula are derived using the equivalent circuit of a coupled transmission line. The new low-pass filter structure is shown to have attractive properties such as compact size, wide stop band range and low insertion loss. The seventh-order low-pass filter designed by present method has a cutoff frequency of 0.9 CHz with a 0.01 dB ripple level. The coupled line type low-pass filter with strip line configuration was fabricated by using a high-temperature superconducting (HTS : YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ thin film on MgO(100) substrate. Since the HTS coupled tine type low-pass filter was proposed with five attenuation poles in stop band such as 1.8, 2.5, 4, 5.5, 6.2 GHz. The fabricated low-pass filter has improved the attenuation characteristics up to seven times of the cutoff frequency.

The fact that material degradation can be evaluated by measuring nonlinear acoustic effect has been proposed by previous studies. The most conventional method to measure nonlinear acoustic effect is to measure the absolute magnitude of fundamental and $2^{nd}$ order harmonic frequency component in the propagated ultrasonic wave. For this aim, power spectral analysis technique has been used widely. However, the power spectral analysis has fatal disadvantage that the gaussian additive noise superimposed in the wave signal remains in the power spectrum domain. Moreover, the magnitude of $2^{nd}$ order harmonic frequency component generated by nonlinear effect is so small that it may be suppressed by the noise remained in the power spectrum. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes an alternative method using bispectrum analysis, which can reduce the effect of addictive gaussian noise and. the nonlinear parameter can be obtained more stably. Simulations showed that the proposed method can obtain the value of nonlinear parameter near to the true value in the case of low SNR signal. Also, in order to confirm the usefulness of our method in actual case, we compared the nonlinear parameter obtained by using both of power spectral and bispectral analysis for several specimen intentionally degraded by fatigue load.
The rotor configuration of the brushless doubly fed induction generator (BDFIG) plays an important role in its performance. In order to make the magnetomotive force (MMF) space vector in one set rotor windings to couple both magnetic fields with different pole-pair and have low resistance and inductance, this paper presents a novel wound rotor type for BDFIG with low space harmonic contents. In accordance with the principles of slot MMF harmonics and unequal element coils, this novel rotor winding is designed to be composed of three-layer unequal-pitch unequal-turn coils. The optimal design process and rules are given in detail with an example. The performance of a 700kW 2/4 pole-pair prototype with the proposed wound rotor is analyzed by the finite element simulation and experimental test, which are also carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed wound rotor configuration.
Front end AC to DC converters of the boost type are used in traction applications for generating the DC link for the inverters. A GTO based converter is usually switched with a switching frequency of 300 to 500Hz, resulting in low frequency harmonic problems. In order to avoid this, multiple converters with phase shifted carrier signals are used to suppress the low frequency harmonics. A detailed study of an AC to DC converter, parallel operated with reduced sensor and improved power-factor in light load conditions is presented in this paper.
