The block-scale groundwater flow system at Olkiluoto site in Finland was simulated. The heterogeneous and anisotropic hydraulic conductivity field for the domain was constructed from the discrete fracture network, which considered only the fractured zones identified in the deep boreholes installed in the study site. The groundwater flow model was calibrated by adjusting the recharge rate and the transmissivities of the fractured zones to fit the calculated hydraulic heads and into- and out-flow rates in the observation intervals of the boreholes with the observed ones. In the calibrated model, the calculated flow rates at some intervals were not in accordance with the observed ones although the calculated hydraulic heads fit well with the observed ones, which revealed that the number of the conduits for groundwater flow is insufficient in the conceptual model for groundwater flow modeling. Therefore, it was recommended that the potential local conduits such as background fractures should be added to the present conceptual model.
South Korea's socioeconomic status is high enough to support services for the protection of crime victims. Until now, the Ministry of Justice was the only institution to protect and support the victims, but recently the national police is included. This is considered preferable, since the police is the one to contact the victims first- they can provide immediate support after the incident. Several limits in current laws and crime protection system exist. Therefore, given the importance of protecting victims, model of public-private joint forms should be considered. In premise of establishing a new relationship between the public-private joint system of justice and the maintenance, the range of police's involvement with crime supports will be determined. In the case of developed countries, the police and private organizations maintain close cooperation, appearing as substantial care and support for crime victims. Therefore this study reviews the problems in crime victim protection, assistance from the police stage, and suggest the improvements as follows. The first is to redefine the role of the police who first contacted in the crime victims protection support, the second is to establish a permanent cooperation framework, such as victims specialized police, victims protection agency, the third is to develop services for victim protection available from the police stage, and the fourth, opening Victim Support Center functioning as a temporary accommodation or safety zone for the personal protection of victims. The fifth is to regularize solution conference for victims' protection, and the sixth is to divide of roles in state organization government in charge of victim's protection and local government responsible for victim's support.

Recently, the paradigm of road policy has been focused on user safety. Recently, the number of road facility improvement project has been continuously increased but the economic feasibility (B/C ratio) is insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to select a reasonable road improvement project through accurate and objective analysis of the road safety evaluation. In this study, to develop a new road safety evaluation method, data were collected based on the current road safety evaluation method for 75 routes including national roads and provincial ones. Based on the collected data, problems were analyzed and utilized as the basic factors of the new road safety evaluation method. Therefore, in this study, traffic accidents were reflected as a general evaluation item by weighing to solve these problems, and the evaluation items were added from experiences and ideas of the local public officials. For each evaluation item, a reasonable weight was determined through AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) questionnaire evaluation with highway experts. In addition, the safety index was determined based on the evaluation criteria for each evaluation item. The criteria for evaluating the danger zone are determined by the overall safety index. Finally, the criteria for selection of road improvement projects based on the overall risk level were derived.

Background: The creation of the National Institute of Ecology began as a national alternative project to preserve mudflats instead of constructing the industrial complexes by reclamation, and achieve regional development. On the other hand, at the national level, the research institute for ecology was needed to cope with the worsening conditions for maintaining biodiversity due to accelerated climate change such as global warming and increased demand for development. In order to meet these needs, the National Institute of Ecology has the following objectives: (1) carries out studies for ecosystem change due to climate change and biodiversity conservation, (2) performs ecological education to the public through exhibition of various ecosystem models, and (3) promotes regional development through the ecological industry. Furthermore, to achieve these objectives, the National Institute of Ecology thoroughly followed the basic principles of ecology, especially restoration ecology, in the process of its construction. We introduce the principles and cases of ecological restoration applied in the process. Results: We minimized the impact on the ecosystem in order to harmonize with the surrounding environment in all the processes of construction. We pursued passive restoration following the principle of ecological restoration as a process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem degraded for all the space except in land where artificial facilities were introduced. Reference information was applied thoroughly in the process of active restoration to create biome around the world, Korean peninsula forests, and wetland ecosystems. In order to realize true restoration, we pursued the ecological restoration in a landscape level as the follows. We moved the local road 6 and high-voltage power lines to underground to ensure ecological connectivity within the National Institute of Ecology campus. To enhance ecological diversity, we introduced perch poles and islands as well as floating leaved, emerged, wetland, and riparian plants in wetlands and mantle communities around the forests of the Korean Peninsula in the terrestrial ecosystem. Furthermore, in order to make the public aware of the importance of the intact nature, the low-lying landscape elements, which have disappeared due to excessive land use in most areas of Korea, was created by imitating demilitarized zone (DMZ) landscape that has these landscape elements. Conclusions: The National Institute of Ecology was created in an eco-friendly way by thoroughly reflecting the principles of ecology to suit its status and thus the impact on the existing ecosystem was minimized. This concept was also designed to be reflected in the process of operation. The results have become real, and a result of analysis on carbon budget analysis is approaching the carbon neutrality.
This study was carried out to set the direction of the new industry policy of Busan city by analyzing the changing trend of artificial intelligence technology that has recently developed rapidly and predicting the direction of future development. The company wanted to draw up support measures to utilize artificial intelligence technology, which has been rapidly emerging in the market, in the region's specialized industry. Artificial intelligence is a key keyword in the fourth industrial revolution and artificial intelligence-based data utilization technology can be used in various fields from manufacturing processes to services, and is entering an era of super-fusion in which barriers between technologies and industries will be broken down. In this study, the direction of promotion for fostering Busan as an artificial intelligence city was derived based on the comparison and analysis of artificial intelligence-related ecosystems among major local governments. In this study, we wanted to present a plan to create an artificial intelligence industrial ecosystem that can be called a key policy to foster Busan as an 'AI City'. Busan's plan to foster the AI industry ecosystem is aimed at establishing a policy direction to ultimately nurture the artificial intelligence industry as Busan's future food source.

Providing weather information on roads today means that the road weather conditions near weather observation points are presented to road managers and road users. These weather observation points are managed by the Korea Meteorological Administration. However, it is difficult to provide accurate weather information due to physical limitations such as the presence of precipitation collection points, distance to weather information provision roads, and the presence of mountains. Therefore, this study intends to perform a comparative analysis by time zone and administrative dong provided by the Meteorological Administration using the wiper information among the information contained in the PVD(Probe Vehicle Data) collected from the highway C-ITS project. As a result of the analysis it was possible to detect rainfall even in the event of local rainfall and rainfall over a long period of time and the higher the cumulative precipitation per hour, the higher the probability of coincidence. This study is meaningful because it used PVD to solve the limitations of the existing road weather information provision method and suggested utilization plan for PVD.
Sea ice, frozen sea water, in the Artic is a primary indicator of global warming. Due to its importance to the climate system, shipping-route navigation, and fisheries, Arctic sea ice prediction has gained increased attention in various disciplines. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), motivated by a desire to develop more autonomous and efficient future predictions, have led to the development of new sea ice prediction models as alternatives to conventional numerical and statistical prediction models. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the two-stream convolutional long-and short-term memory (TS-ConvLSTM) AI model, which is designed for learning both global and local characteristics of the Arctic sea ice changes, for the minimum September Arctic sea ice from 2001 to 2021, and to show the possibility for an operational prediction system. Although the TS-ConvLSTM model generally increased the prediction performance as training data increased, predictability for the marginal ice zone, 5-50% concentration, showed a negative trend due to increasing first-year sea ice and warming. Additionally, a comparison of sea ice extent predicted by the TS-ConvLSTM with the median Sea Ice Outlooks (SIOs) submitted to the Sea Ice Prediction Network has been carried out. Unlike the TS-ConvLSTM, the median SIOs did not show notable improvements as time passed (i.e., the amount of training data increased). Although the TS-ConvLSTM model has shown the potential for the operational sea ice prediction system, learning more spatio-temporal patterns in the difficult-to-predict natural environment for the robust prediction system should be considered in future work.
The disturbance zone and measured values are affected by the size of the penetrometer. The local value may be measured by the smaller penetrometer. An ultra small Micro-Cone penetrometer (5mm in outer diameter) is designed and manufactured to characterize soil properties with minimum disturbance during penetration tests. The tip resistance is measured by using stain gauges attached near the Micro-Cone. In addition, the friction sleeve is adopted to effectively remove the skin friction from the tip resistance. Design concern includes the installation of stain gauges, circuits, penetration systems, penetration rate, sampling rate, operating temperature, and calibration. Application tests show that the clay interface, and the soil layers consisting of clay and sand are clearly detected by the Micro-Cone. Furthermore, the cone tip resistances measured by the Micro-Cone and the miniature cone (16mm in outer diameter) are similar. Note the resolution is much higher in the Micro-Cone. This study shows that the Micro-Cone may effectively detect the soil interface with high resolution, and with minimum disturbance.
The purpose of this study is to verify whether companies residing in industry-academic convergence zones designated by the government are achieving policy goals and to seek policy implications and directions for improvement through analysis. For the study, business activities targeting resident companies were divided into infrastructure, business content, management, and system aspects, and business performance indicators, resident company satisfaction surveys, and differences in sales increase between resident companies and non-resident companies were analyzed through t-test. Based on statistical analysis results, performance indicators, and corporate survey analysis results, we track joint industry-academia R&D projects to maximize the effectiveness for companies, develop and operate human resources management for teams, and provide financial support for ordinances of metropolitan local governments. Improvements such as stipulation, antenna facilities at the corporate research center, and improvement of the researcher's residential environment were suggested. This study is the first to quantitatively verify policy performance targeting companies residing in industry-academic convergence zones, a large-scale government project, and future follow-up research is needed, including analysis of policy effects based on various variables such as employment indicators and corporate financial indicators.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of perfluorobutane microbubbles (Sonazoid®, GE Healthcare) on steam popping during radiofrequency (RF) ablation for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to assess whether popping affects treatment outcomes. Materials and Methods: The institutional review board approved this retrospective study, which included 90 consecutive patients with single HCC, who received percutaneous RF ablation as the first-line treatment. The patients were divided into two groups, based on the presence or absence of the popping phenomenon, which was defined as an audible sound with a simultaneous sudden explosion within the ablation zone as detected via ultrasonography during the procedure. The factors contributing to the popping phenomenon were identified using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Local tumor progression (LTP) and disease-free survival (DFS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test for performing comparisons between the two groups. Results: The overall incidence of the popping phenomenon was 25.8% (24/93). Sonazoid® was used in 1 patient (4.2%) in the popping group (n = 24), while it was used in 15 patients (21.7%) in the non-popping group (n = 69). Multivariable analysis revealed that the use of Sonazoid® was the only significant factor for absence of the popping phenomenon (odds ratio = 0.10, p = 0.048). There were no significant differences in cumulative LTP and DFS between the two groups (p = 0.479 and p = 0.424, respectively). Conclusion: The use of Sonazoid® has a suppressive effect on the popping phenomenon during RF ablation in patients with HCC. However, the presence of the popping phenomenon may not affect clinical outcomes.
