유비쿼터스 환경에 적합한 소형 칩 안테나 구현 (Implementation of Mini Chip Antenna suitable for Ubiquitous Environment)

  • 정보통신 패러다임은 전파를 기반으로 하는 유비쿼터스 환경으로 급변하고 있으며, 무선 유비쿼터스 통신을 가능케하는 안테나 기술은 눈부시게 발전하고 있다. 소형 칩 안테나는 외장형 AP(Access Point) 안테나와 달리 작은 카드에 내장된다. 수요 가격 특성의 문제 등 종합적으로 고려했을 때, 세라믹의 상대 유전율은 9.8, 두께는 3.5mm와 5mm를 사용하였다. 설계 제작된 WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network)용 안테나는 2.4~2.5GHz & 4.9~5.85GHz의 광대역 특성을 가지며, 안테나는 IEEE 802.11.a,g 그리고 b까지 트리플 모드로 사용할 수 있으며, 전 주파수 대역에서 비교적 일정한 성능을 갖는다.

버스정보시스템의 효율성에 관한 연구 (The Study of Bus Information System's Efficiency)

  • 현재 각 지자체별로 ITS 시스템이 도입되고 있으며 대시민 서비스차원에서 버스정보시스템(BIS)이 우선적으로 도입, 운영되고 있다. 이러한 버스정보시스템의 대표적인 위치추적 및 무선통신방식으로 DSRC+DSRC방식, GPS+무선통신망, Beacon+Beacon이 각 지자체별 특성에 맞게 구축, 운영중에 있다. 지금까지 BIS 시스템에 대한 평가는 각 지자체별로 사전, 사후분석의 설문조사항목을 통해 정성적 평가만 수행되었으며 시스템의 성능에 대한 평가는 실시되지 않았다. 따라서 본, 논문은 현재까지의 시행하였던 BIS 시스템에 대한 평가방안을 기초로 성능평가를 포함한 새로운 평가방안을 수립하여 각 BIS 방식별 대표시스템을 선정, 도착정보 신뢰도와 무선통신성공율의 효과척도를 적용하여 해당 시스템의 신뢰도나 효율성에 대한 평가를 수행하였다.

A Resource Discovery with Data Dissemination over Unstructured Mobile P2P Networks

  • Recently, along with the innovative development of wireless communication techniques and mobile devices, mobile P2P services in mobile wireless networks have gained a lot of attention. In this paper, we propose a resource discovery scheme with data dissemination over mobile P2P networks. In the proposed scheme, each peer manages a local information table, a resource index table, and a routing table in a local database to enhance the accuracy and cost of resource discovery. The local information table stores the status of a mobile peer, and the resource index table stores the resource information of the neighbor peers via the ranking function. The routing table is used to communicate with the neighbor peers. We use a timestamp message to determine whether or not the resource index table will be changed before the resource information is exchanged. Our ranking function considers the interest and mobility of the mobile peer and prioritizes the resource information transmitted from the neighbor peers. It is shown via various experiments that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing scheme.

On the Formulation and Optimal Solution of the Rate Control Problem in Wireless Mesh Networks

  • An algorithm is proposed to seek a local optimal solution of the network utility maximization problem in a wireless mesh network, where the architecture being considered is an infrastructure/backbone wireless mesh network. The objective is to achieve proportional fairness amongst the end-to-end flows in wireless mesh networks. In order to establish the communication constraints of the flow rates in the network utility maximization problem, we have presented necessary and sufficient conditions for the achievability of the flow rates. Since wireless mesh networks are generally considered as a type of ad hoc networks, similarly as in wireless multi-hop network, the network utility maximization problem in wireless mesh network is a nonlinear nonconvex programming problem. Besides, the gateway/bridge functionalities in mesh routers enable the integration of wireless mesh networks with various existing wireless networks. Thus, the rate optimization problem in wireless mesh networks is more complex than in wireless multi-hop networks.

무선 근거리 통신망 환경을 위한 다단계 데이터베이스 시스템 (Multi-tier Database System for Wireless LAN Environment)

  • As the usage of wireless LAN becomes common in working environment, the number of database systems that support both wired and wireless users increases rapidly. The characteristics of wireless LAN that its speed is slow relatively comparing to wired network and the users in its environment connects to different communication points as they moves creates another challenge to be resolved in database systems. In the environment of hybrid communication systems, wired and wireless for voluminous data amount and a number of users, the two layer architecture of the conventional client-server database systems has limitation in the system performance. This is due to that server is the only point of data service in client-server database systems. In this paper, we discuss a new extended database system architecture that data services are distributed among servers and clients based on user database access patterns in order to improve system performance. We analyze the expected system performance by using simulation technique and prove the practical utilization of the system by demonstrating experimental results.

  • This paper presents a wired and wireless linked remote control system. Ethernet based network communication is used for long distance management and 2.4GHz RF network is adopted for the local area communication between the main network and the ballast. For the effective remote control and management including dimming using wired and wireless linked digital communication networks, control circuit of the ballast is implemented with fully digital circuit using MCU and EPLD. In this paper, the proper frame structure is proposed for the digital-remote lighting-control system and the detailed system configurations including fully digital controlled ballast for the induction lamp are described.

A Forwarding Scheme for (m,k)-firm Streams Based on Local Decision in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • As the technology of multimedia sensor networks is desired in large numbers of applications nowadays, real-time service becomes one of the most important research challenges. Even though lots of related works have been conducted to meet this requirement in several ways, the specific traffic model for real-time has not been taken yet. Thus, it causes lack of adaptability of those approaches in real deployment. To solve this problem, in this paper, we model the application via (m,k)-firm streams which have weakly hard real-time property. And then, a novel forwarding scheme based on modified DBP (Distance-Based Priority) is proposed by considering local-DBP and stream DBP together. Local-DBP can contribute to identify the detailed causes of unsatisfied quality, that is, network congestion or wireless link failure. Simulation results reveal that (m,k)-firm is a good traffic model for multimedia sensor networks and the proposed scheme can contribute to guarantee real-time requirement well.

  • 무선랜은 그 사용의 편이성과 우수한 성능 때문에 널리 사용되고 있는 무선접속 방법의 하나이다. 하지만, 사용자가 많아지면 그 성능이 매우 열화 되는 단점이 있다. 혼잡 철도 역사에서는 무선랜에 접속하고자하는 사용자가 많고 특히 열차가 도착하여 승객이 하차할 시 무선랜에 동시 접속을 하려는 사용자의 수가 갑자기 증가하게 된다. 이러한 혼잡 상황에서는 무선랜과 통신을 개시하기 위한 망 접속절차를 수행할 수 없게 되어 무선랜과의 통신이 불가하게 된다. 이 논문에서는 혼잡 철도 역사 상황에서 사용자가 무선랜의 접속을 효과적으로 할 수 있는 무선랜 분산접속 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법을 사용하면 혼잡 상황에서 무선랜 접속에 소요되는 시간을 효과적으로 줄일 수 있게 되어 Communication Based Train Control (CBTC)에 사용하는 무선랜의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다.

  • One of current trends of medical technology is analog to digital. Moreover, The Government put a premium on PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System) for Medical Insurance in November, 1999. Therefore many hospitals are installing(or planning to install) PACS facilities on their buildings. However most of hospitals didn't consider PACS facilities in the beginning of construction. In particular, the Networking is one of the most difficult things for PACS installation. There is no space for network equipments, and no path for network lines, etc. To solve these problems, wireless network is proposed. The wireless network is divided to three parts mainly. One is the wireless communication for Local Area Network, another is the data transmission through a satellite for Tele-Radiology, and the last one is the technology using Bluetooth for each sub-system of PACS. But there are other problems in wireless systems, i.e., network bandwidth, system stability, interference with other devices. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the future and new trend of PACS including all the problems.

  • A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a flexible data communication system implemented as an extension to, or as an alternative for, a wired LAN with in a building or campus. However, communications in an indoor environment present problems not encountered in outdoor wireless communication systems. Since cellular type systems are interference limited, the indoor environment is more hostile than the outdoor environment due to the lower propagation constant. In this paper, the equation for the signal to interference ratio in a multistory building will be derived. Knowing the S/I ratio, the floor frequency reuse can be determined. Finally, the simulation in this research is designed to study the performance (BER) of WLAN system in the multistory environment by applying the 8-PSK Trellis Coded modulation technique. The procedure allows a quick evaluation of BER in Wireless LAN system due to the co-channel interference.
