  • This study consists of an experimental investigation of the reduction of the second-order roll motion of a semi-submersible platform in head sea conditions by adding hull damping. The second-order heave drift force and roll drift moment are known to be the main triggers that induce the list angle (Hong et al., 2010). Hong et al. (2013) used numerical calculations to show the possibility of reducing the list angle by changing the pontoon shape and adding a damping device on the hull. One of their findings was that the reduction in the list angle due to the increase in pontoon surface damping was significant. A series of model tests were carried out with a 1:50 scaled model of semi-submersible at the KRISO wave basin. The experiments indicated that adding damping on the hull surface effectively suppressed the list angle.

  • The Positive List System was newly introduced in South Korea as of January 2007. This study aims to survey and compare perception of and attitudes toward the Positive List System in the process of new drug listing that health professionals and pharmaceutical companies have. 50 professionals and 52 companies answered the questionnaire regarding health policy environments, policy decision/enforcement process, policy effects and satisfaction related to introducing the Positive List System. SAS 9.1 was used for statistical analyses. The results showed that participants had the general sympathy with health policy environments for the introduction of the Positive List System into South Korea. However, the response rates of policy decision/enforcement process and effects were negative and these tendencies were more striking in pharmaceutical companies. As for policy satisfaction, participants marked positive responses more than negative ones. It is necessary to remedy and supplement problems with policy decision/enforcement policy and effects revealed in this study and to improve the Positive List System through gathering opinions among groups and organization concerned.

  • Polar codes are one of the most favorable capacity-achieving codes due to their simple structure and low decoding complexity. However, because of the disappointing decoding performance realized using conventional successive cancellation (SC) decoders, polar codes cannot be used directly in practical applications. In contrast to conventional SC decoders, list SC (SCL) decoders with large list sizes (e.g. 32) achieve performances very close to those of maximum-likelihood (ML) decoders. In SCL decoders with large list sizes, however, hardware increase is a severe problem because an SCL decoder with list size L consists of L copies of an SC decoder. In this paper, we present a low-area SCL decoder architecture that applies the proposed merged processing element-sharing (MPES) algorithm. A merged processing element (MPE) is the basic processing unit in SC decoders, and the required number of MPEs is L(N-1) in conventional SCL decoders. Using the proposed algorithm reduces the number of MPEs by about 70% compared with conventional SCL decoders when the list size is larger than 32.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate developmental trends in organization strategy for taxonomic and slot-fiber lists and category typicality, use of organization strategy in relation to developmental changes in category knowledge structure, emergent organization capacity and effects in category typicality on children's recall. Moreover, the influences of children's age, use of organization strategy, list types and category typicality on children's recap were figured out. The major results were as follows. 1. Children's recall use of organization strategy increased with age. That is, the older children performed better recap and used organization strategy on both list types than the younger children. 2. AU children performed recall and used organization strategy better for the slot-filler than taxonomic list. The 4-year-olds, however, demonstrated better recap and use of organization strategy for the slot-filler than taxonomic list. While the 6-year-olds and 8-year-olds showed no such differences. These findings were supported the view that script-based slot-filler categories have a strong influence on young children's memory performance. 3. At each age level, children showed higher level of recall and use of organization strategy for category typical than category atypical list. AU children received higher scores for the typical than atypical items on recap and use of organization strategy. 4. Children's age, use of organization strategy, list types, and category typicality of lists significantly predicted children's recap.58% of the variance of children's recap was explained by four variables.

  • For University students, reading is one of the important way of character education and career education that can give students the power to recognize and adapt to changes in society. The university supports the reading activities of university students in various ways, such as opening liberal arts courses related to reading or setting up required credits. In addition, it supports activities such as selecting the recommended book list for university students and providing the list. The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems of the current university's recommended book list and methods of using reading, and to propose improvement plans. To this end, using D University as an example, the current status of the recommended book list and reading discussion program were identified, and problems were investigated. In the current recommended book list, the subject area and list did not properly reflect the times, and the information on the provided list was very simple. Also, it was found that there was no suggestion on how to use the recommended book list. Through this, the recommended book list with the addition of bibliographic information and composition of the subject area was proposed. In addition, the reading discussion method was structured using Havruta.

  • Recently, unstructured data is rapidly being produced based on web-based services. NoSQL systems and key value stores that process unstructured data as key and value pairs are widely used in various applications. In this paper, a study was conducted on a skip list used for in-memory data management in an LSM-tree based key value store. The skip list used in the key value store is an insertion-based skip list that does not allow overwriting and processes all changes only by inserting. This behavior can support Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), which can simultaneously process multiple read/write requests through snapshot isolation. However, since duplicate keys exist in the skip list, the performance significantly degrades due to unnecessary node visits during a list traverse. In particular, serious overhead occurs when a range query or scan operation that collectively searches a specific range of data occurs. This paper proposes a newly designed Stride SkipList to reduce this overhead. The stride skip list additionally maintains an indexing pointer for the last node of the same key to avoid unnecessary node visits. The proposed scheme is implemented using RocksDB's in-memory component, and the performance evaluation shows that the performance of SCAN operation improves by up to 350 times compared to the existing skip list for various workloads.

  • Daily energy expenditures (DEE) of 82 co-eds in a University were estimated simultaneously by use of calorie counter and 15-min check list diary for 3 days, including a weekend day. The results are summarized as follows. The mean values of DEE from 15-min check list diary and calorie counter were 1967kcal and 1649kcal, respectively. DEE obtained with 15-min check list diary seems to be consistent with the results made by others concerning DEE of college female in Korea, but DEE by calorie counter was lower than that. However, DEE by calorie counter show high correlations with anthropometric indices of subjects and DEE by 15-min check list diary. Therefore, DEE by 15-min check list diary was taken as standard and regression equation for predicting DEE of subjects were developed: DEE by 15-min check list diary =3.31186 + 1.18837 $\times$ DEE by calorie counter. This technique for measuring DEE permits us to have more accurate estimate of DEE and acceptable to the subjects. When the subjects classified as underweight, normal, overweight according to relative body weight(RBW), DEE and DEE per kg of body weight were significantly different from each other between three groups based on RBW. The frequency of 15-minute periods with a categorical value of 1 was significantly higher in overweight than underweight and normal groups and the frequency of a categorical value 3 was significantly lower in overweight than underweight group. From the results shown above, physical activity level of overweight group was lower than that of normal and underweight groups.
