We propose an extended hypertext data model based on object oriented paradigm that can easily the real world and semantics. We use the BNF notation to formalize the model. In our model, We introduce conceptional navigation by associating semantics on links and drive intelligent navigation using weights on links to alleviate user disorientation problem which is currently somewhat vague. We functionally classify the hypertext node into three types:Indexing node, Content node, Extract node and likewise classify the link into Alink type, Rlink type, Slink type. We believe that the typed node and typed link approach accommodate efficient query/search in hypertext.

Many important terminologies in biomedical text are expressed as abbreviations or acronyms. We newly suggest a semantic link topic model based on the concepts of topic and dependency link to disambiguate biomedical abbreviations and cluster long form variants of abbreviations which refer to the same senses. This model is a generative model inspired by the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic model, in which each document is viewed as a mixture of topics, with each topic characterized by a distribution over words. Thus, words of a document are generated from a hidden topic structure of a document and the topic structure is inferred from observable word sequences of document collections. In this study, we allow two distinct word generation to incorporate semantic dependencies between words, particularly between expansions (long forms) of abbreviations and their sentential co-occurring words. Besides topic information, the semantic dependency between words is defined as a link and a new random parameter for the link presence is assigned to each word. As a result, the most probable expansions with respect to abbreviations of a given abstract are decided by word-topic distribution, document-topic distribution, and word-link distribution estimated from document collection though the semantic dependency link topic model. The abstracts retrieved from the MEDLINE Entrez interface by the query relating 22 abbreviations and their 186 expansions were used as a data set. The link topic model correctly predicted expansions of abbreviations with the accuracy of 98.30%.

CBIR is an effective tool to search and extract image contents in a large remote sensing image database queried by an operator or end user. However, as imaging principles are different by sensors, their visual representation thus varies among image modality type. Considering images of various modalities archived in the database, image modality difference has to be tackled for the successful CBIR implementation. However, this topic has been seldom dealt with and thus still poses a practical challenge. This study suggests a cross modality CBIR (termed as the CM-CBIR) method that transforms given query feature vector by a supervised procedure in order to link between modalities. This procedure leverages the skill of analyst in training steps after which the transformed query vector is created for the use of searching in target images with different modalities. Current initial results show the potential of the proposed CM-CBIR method by delivering the image content of interest from different modality images. Despite its retrieval capability is outperformed by that of same modality CBIR (abbreviated as the SM-CBIR), the lack of retrieval performance can be compensated by employing the user's relevancy feedback, a conventional technique for retrieval enhancement.
The Web is rich with various sources of information. It contains the contents of documents, multimedia data, shopping materials and so on. Due to the massive and heterogeneous web document collections, users want to find various types of target pages. We can classify user queries as three categories according to users'intent, content search, the site search, and the service search. In this paper, we present that different strategies are needed to meet the need of a user. Also we show the properties of content information, link information and URL information according to the class of a user query. In the content search, content information showed the good result. However, we lost the performance by combining link information and URL information. In the site search, we could increase the performance by combining link information and URL information.
In this paper. we propose an enhanced concurrency control algorithm that minimizes the query delay efficiently. The factors that delay search operations and deteriorate the concurrency of index structures are node splits and MBR updates in multi dimensional index structures. In our algorithm, to reduce the query delay by split operations, we optimize exclusive latching time on a split node. It holds exclusive latches not during whole split time but only during physical node split time that occupies small part of whole split time. Also to avoid the query delay by MBR updates we introduce partial lock coupling(PLC) technique. The PLC technique increases concurrency by using lock coupling only in case of MBR shrinking operations that are less frequent than MBR expansion operations. For performance evaluation, we implement the proposed algorithm and one of the existing link technique-based algorithms on MIDAS-III that is a storage system of a BADA-III DBMS. We show through various experiments that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm In terms of throughput and response time.

In this study, we propose Linktable based on extended TB-Tree(LTB-Tree) which can improve the performance of existing TB (Trajectory-Bundle)-tree proposed for indexing the trajectory of moving objects in GIS Applications. In addition, in order to evaluate proposed indexing scheme, we take into account as follows. At first, we select existing R*-tree, TB-tree, and LTB-tree as the subject of performance evaluation. Secondly, we make use of random data set and real data set as experimental data. Thirdly, we evaluate the performance with respect to the variation of size of memory buffer by considering the restriction of available memory of a given system. Fourth, we test them by using the experimental data set with a variation of data distribution. Finally, we think over insertion and retrieval performance of trajectory query and range query as experimental measures. The experimental results show that the proposed indexing scheme, LTB-tree, gains better performance than traditional other schemes with respect to the insertion and retrieval of trajectory query.
Prosperity of Internet led to the web containing huge number of documents. Thus increasing importance is given to the web information retrieval technology that can provide users with documents that contain the right information they want. This paper proposes several techniques that are effective for the improvement of web information retrieval. Similarity between a document and the query is a major source of information exploited by conventional systems. However, we suggest a technique to make use of similarity between a sentence and the query. We introduce a technique to compute the approximate score of the sentence-query similarity even without a mature technology of natural language processing. It was shown that the amount of computation for this task is linear to the number of documents in the total collection, which implies that practical systems can make use of this technique. The next important technique proposed in this paper is to use stratification of documents in re-ranking the documents to output. It was shown that it can lead to significant improvement in performance. We furthermore showed that using hyper links, anchor texts, and titles can result in enhancement of performance. To justify the proposed techniques we developed a large scale web information retrieval system and used it for experiments.

In this paper, we propose a new hybrid type of the routing protocol (Virtual Cluster-based Routing Protocol: VCRP) for mobile ad-hoc networks, based on a virtual cluster, which is defined as a narrow-sense network to exchange the basic information related to the routing among the adjacent nodes. This particular approach combines advantage of proactive routing protocol (PRP), which immediately provides the route collecting the network-wide topological and metric information, with that of reactive routing protocol, which relies on the route query packet to collect the route information on its way to the destination without exchanging any information between nodes. Furthermore, it also provides the back-up route as a byproduct, along with the optimal route, which leads to the VCBRP (Virtual Cluster-based Routing Protocol with Backup Route) establishing the alternative route immediately after a network topology is changed due to degradation of link quality and terminal mobility, Our simulation studies have shown that the proposed routing protocols are robust against dynamics of network topology while improving the performances of packet transfer delay, link failure ratio, and throughput over those of the existing routing protocols without much compromising the control overhead efficiency.
