Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of a Profiled Cylindrical Roller (I) (프로파일링을 한 원통형 로울러의 탄성유체윤활 (I))

  • A numerical solution of the elastohydrodynamic lubrication problem for an axially profiled cylindrical roller is presented. The problem is analyzed using finite difference method and Newton-Raphson method. The effect of side leakage and compressibility of lubricants are considered and axially nonuniform grid is constructed over the computation zone. Isobars, contours and section graphs show pressure variation and film shape. Contours plot is very similar to the previously reported experimental observations based upon optical interferometry. The maximum pressure and the minimum film thickness occur near the start of the profiling. The method used makes it possible to design an optimum axial profile of the roller to increase the life of rolling bearings.

Efficient Classification of High Resolution Imagery for Urban Area

  • An efficient method for the unsupervised classification of high resolution imagery is suggested in this paper. It employs pixel-linking and merging based on the adjacency graph. The proposed algorithm uses the neighbor lines of 8 directions to include information in spatial proximity. Two approaches are suggested to employ neighbor lines in the linking. One is to compute the dissimilarity measure for the pixel-linking using information from the best lines with the smallest non. The other is to select the best directions for the dissimilarity measure by comparing the non-homogeneity of each line in the same direction of two adjacent pixels. The resultant partition of pixel-linking is segmented and classified by the merging based on the regional and spectral adjacency graphs. This study performed extensive experiments using simulation data and a real high resolution data of IKONOS. The experimental results show that the new approach proposed in this study is quite effective to provide segments of high quality for object-based analysis and proper land-cover map for high resolution imagery of urban area.

  • A novel circuit structure of dual-band bandstop filters is proposed in this paper. This structure comprises two shunt-connected tri-section stepped impedance resonators with a transmission line in between. Theoretical analysis from the equivalent circuit and design procedures are described. We represented graphs for filter design from the derived synthesis equations by resonance condition of circuits. Notably, advantages of the proposed filter structure are compact size in design, wide range of realizable resonance frequency ratio, and more realizable impedances.

  • In-process monitoring of cutting conditions and tool wear is important for improving productivity. This paper is concerned with on-line monitoring of tool wear and cutting force in end milling operation. The experimental study deals with the relations between flank wear and cutting force signal. Tool wear is detected by monitoring of cutting signal. A monitoring procedure is shown in this paper. The influence of flank wear on cutting signal activity was examined. The results are presented in the form of graphs. The analysis of the cutting signal and flank wear curves provides useful indicators of unacceptable wear development in the tool.

  • In this work, the hydromagnetic and thermal characteristics of natural convection flow in a vertical parallel plate micro-porous-channel with suction/injection is analytically studied in the presence of Hall current by taking the temperature jump and the velocity slip at the wall into account. The governing equations, exhibiting the physics of the flow formation are displayed and the exact analytical solutions have been obtained for momentum and energy equations under relevant boundary conditions. The impact of distinct admissible parameters such as Hartmann number, Hall current parameter, permeability parameter, suction/injection parameter, fluid wall interaction parameter, Knudsen number and wall-ambient temperature ratio on the flow formation is discussed with the aid of line graphs. In particular, as rarefaction parameter on the micro-porous-channel surfaces increases, the fluid velocity increases and the volume flow rate decreases for injection/suction.

  • Each 3D visualization program has its own different structure as for the purpose. This paper describes the design and development of an on-line 3D core data visualization program, $RocDis^{TM}$, for the nuclear simulator. It is possible to analyze the inside of the core status including neutron flux, relative power, moderator and fuel temperature in 3D distribution. Some of other essential information, axial flux distribution etc. could also display in 2D graphs. This program would be design, tuning and training for the simulator core model.

  • This paper proposes on-line based a deterioration diagnosis pole transformers using various sensors such as thermistor, current transformer and potential transformer. We measured load current and temperature to diagnose pole transformer using R/F( radio frequency ) wireless data communication module. We represent the graphs of their feature. The result of this paper shows that the proposed device car be used as deterioration diagnosis device of pole transformers.

  • In the present investigation, we have studied the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) heat transfer of peristaltic flow in a tube. The analysis is made without imposing any assumption to obtain the streamline and isothermal line directly. Galerkin's finite element method has been used on the governing Navier-Stoke's equation in the form of ${\psi}-{\omega}$. The graphs of the computed longitudinal velocity, temperature and pressure are plotted against different value of the emerging parameter by using the stream function and vorticity. The results are valid beyond the long wavelength and the low Reynolds number limits. We conclude that higher values of the parameters are not independent of the time mean flow rate.

Measurement and Interpretation of Undergraduate Students' Writing about the Experiments of the Photoelectric Effect

  • This study aimed at examining undergraduate students' writing about experiments related to the photoelectric effect and giving some implications for experiment education. Thus, this study analyzed 26 students' reports about three kinds of experiments: measuring Planck's constant, comparing the photocurrent and the photovoltage across the intensity of light, and comparing the photocurrent and the photovoltage across the frequency of light. In the measurements, less than 25% of the students expressed the data to the correct number of significant figures even though two-thirds of the students successfully obtained the data given in the manual. In terms of interpretation, the students were not aware of the physical meanings of the detailed parts in the graphs. Even though over 50% of the students drew a line relating photocurrent to voltage, no students compared the theoretical to the empirical data or made a judgment as to whether of not the background theory really fit the experiment. The research findings showed that insufficient knowledge and skills for physics inquiry may be an obstacle in performing the experiments well.
