A fast and robust method of grid generation to multiple functions has been developed for flow analysis in three dimensional space. It is based on the Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline of an approximation method. The grid generation method, details of numerical implementation. examples of application, and potential extensions of the current method are illustrated in this paper.
The modeling of realistic water-jet geometry is needed in order to facilitate the design modifications. The present paper proposes a method of generating inlet geometry. Inlet duct was represented by NURBS method which utilized the skinning and local cubic interpolation scheme. Three test examples are presented demonstrating the effectiveness of the methods of skinning and local cubic interpolation. Computational examples associated with practical configurations have shown the usefulness of the present method.
This paper addresses B-spline curve approximation of a set of ordered points to a specified toterance. The important issue in this problem is to reduce the number of control points while keeping the desired accuracy in the resulting B-spline curve. In this paper we propose a new method for error-bounded B-spline curve approximation based on adaptive selection of dominant points. The method first selects from the given points initial dominant points that govern the overall shape of the point set. It then computes a knot vector using the dominant points and performs B-spline curve fitting to all the given points. If the fitted B-spline curve cannot approximate the points within the tolerance, the method selects more points as dominant points and repeats the curve fitting process. The knots are determined in each step by averaging the parameters of the dominant points. The resulting curve is a piecewise B-spline curve of order (degree+1) p with $C^{(p-2)}$ continuity at each knot. The shape index of a point set is introduced to facilitate the dominant point selection during the iterative curve fitting process. Compared with previous methods for error-bounded B-spline curve approximation, the proposed method requires much less control points to approximate the given point set with the desired shape fidelity. Some experimental results demonstrate its usefulness and quality.
This paper presents NURBS skinning for the forebody of ship. NURBS skinning is guessed as a good method to generate the faired surface of ship forebody, but it is very problematic in real ship design to generate resonable surface of ship forbody using skinning, because there are lot of problem to apply skinning and to get reasonable surface. One of main problem is data arrangement with design data. Irregular serial contour data arise so serious compatibility problem of knot vector This paper suggests a whole process using skinning successfully in generating hull form of ship forebody This process includes how to make the data set for skinning and how to execute compatibility procedure.

In manufacturing of exact products, the offsetting is required to transfer the design data of shape to manufacturing data. In offsetting the degeneracies are occurred, and these problems are mere difficult in freeform shapr manufacuring. This paper is using the geometric properties of B-spline curves to solve the degeneracy of offsetting and to generating of enhanced offsetting. The offsetting of B-spline control polygon spans generates exact control polygon of original shapes. This method is faster in generating offset curve than the normal offsetting, and the resulted offset curves are exact. The additional property of this method is using to control offset shape as B-spline curves. We believe that this method is as effective solution for modifying of offset curves.
The present CNC machining system if without any CAM software has been limited to 2D or 2.5D plane cut using lines, arcs and curves. If the CNC is equipped with a surface interpolation module and a surface reorganizing module inside it, we can easily try 3D surface machining without aid of CAM software. The existing NURBS surface interpolator is simple and direct to use for a unit surface. However, it enables only machining of each reference surface individually even when machining a simple composite surface. In this paper, we propose a method which can unify and reorganize various reference surfaces with a newly defined NURBS surface cycle command: a multi-repetitive cycle command such as in a CNC turning center. We also introduce a reorganizing rule for reference surfaces using NURBS properties. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified through computer simulation.
A study on the free vibration analysis of elastic bar is described in this paper. In order to determine the natural frequencies of bars, a bar element is developed by using isogeometric formulation. The B-spline is introduced to represent the geometry of bar and the same geometric definition is also used to define its unknown displacement field in isogeometric formulation. Therefore, the stiffness and mass matrices are derived by the order-free B-spline basis function. The efficiency and accuracy of the present isogeometric bar elementis demonstrated by using several numerical tests. From numerical results, it is found to be that the present isogeometric element produces very accurate natural frequencies of bars. Finally, the present isogeometric solutions are provided as future reference solutions.
The objective of this study is to develop a PC level freeform surface modeling system which explicitly represents information of part geometry. Surface modeler uses nonuniform rational B-spline (NURBS) function with nonuniform knot vector for the flexible modeling work. The results of this study are as follows. 1) By implementation surface modeler through applying representation scheme proposed to represent free-form surface explicity, the technical foundation to develop free-from surface modeling system using parametric method. 2) Besides the role to model geometric shape of a surface, geometric modeler is developed to model arbitrary geometric shape. By doing this, the availability of the modeling system is improved. Geometric modeler can be utilized application fields such as collision test of tool and fixture, and tool path generation for NC machine tool.

An endolichenic fungus Xylaria grammica EL000614 produces grammicin, a potent nematicidal pyrone derivative that can serve as a new control option for root-knot nematodes. We optimized an Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation (ATMT) protocol for X. grammica to support genetic studies. Transformants were successfully generated after co-cultivation of homogenized young mycelia of X. grammica with A. tumefaciens strain AGL-1 carrying a binary vector that contains the bacterial hygromycin B phosphotransferase (hph) gene and the eGFP gene in T-DNA. The resulting transformants were mitotically stable, and PCR analysis showed the integratin of both genes in the genome of transformants. Expression of eGFP was confirmed via fluorescence microscopy. Southern analysis showed that 131 (78.9%) out of 166 transformants contained a single T-DNA insertion. Crucial factors for producing predominantly single T-DNA transformants include 48 h of co-cultivation, pretreatment of A. tumefaciens cells with acetosyringone before co-cultivation, and using freshly prepared mycelia. The established ATMT protocol offers an efficient tool for random insertional mutagenesis and gene transfer in studying the biology and ecology of X. grammica.
