In this paper a methodology of identifying individual pipes according to the internal and external characteristics of pipe is developed, and the methodology is applied to a case study water distribution pipe break database. Using the newly defined individual pipes the hazard rates of the cast iron 6 inch pipes are modeled by implementing the proportional hazards modeling approach for consecutive pipe failures. The covariates to be considered in the modeling procedures are selected by considering the general availability of the data and the practical applicability of the modeling results. The individual cast iron 6 inch pipes are categorized into seven ordered survival time groups according to the total number of breaks recorded in a pipe to construct distinct proportional hazard model (PHM) for each survival time group (STG). The modeling results show that all of the PHMs have the hazard rate forms of the Weibull distribution. In addition, the estimated baseline survivor functions show that the survival probabilities of the STGs generally decrease as the number of break increases. It is found that STG I has an increasing hazard rate whereas the other STGs have decreasing hazard rates. Regarding the first failure the hazard ratio of spun-rigid and spun-flex cast iron pipes to pit cast iron pipes is estimated as 1.8 and 6.3, respectively. For the second or more failures the relative effects of pipe material/joint type on failure were not conclusive. The degree of land development affected pipe failure for STGs I, II, and V, and the average hazard ratio was estimated as 1.8. The effects of length on failure decreased as more breaks occur and the population in a GRID affected the hazard rate of the first pipe failure.

In this study, we developed a finite element model of the human middle ear has been developed to calculate itsfor sound transfer characteristics calculation. We usedThe geometric data forof ossicles, obtained byfrom micro-CT scanning, was used in order to develop the middle- ear FE model. A right- side temporal bone of a Korean cadaver was used for the micro-CT scanning. The developed FE model includes three ossicles, the tympanic membrane, ligaments, and muscles. We calculated theA sound transfer function from the tympanic membrane to the stapes footplate was calculated. The sound transfer function calculated vias of the FE model shows good agreement with measured responses over the 10- kHz frequency band. To measureidentify the sensitivityies of the middle- ear function due to material property variation, we studied several parameters studies have been fulfilled using the middle ear FE model. TAs a result the stiffness property of the incudostapedial joint had the greatest influence onwas the most influential to the middle- ear sound transfer function among the parameters.

Since blast-induced vibration may cause serious problem to the rock mass as well as the nearby structures, the prediction of blast-induced nitration and the stability evaluation must be performed before blasting activities. Dynamic analysis has been increased recently in order to analyze the effect of the blast-Induced vibration. Most of the previous studies, however, were based on the continuum analysis unable to consider rock joints which significantly affect the wave propagation and attenuation characteristics. They also adopted pressure corves estimated tv theoretical or empirical equations as input detonation load, thus there were very difficult to reflect the characteristics of propagating media. In this study, therefore, we suggested a dynamic distinct element analysis technique which uses velocity waveform obtained from a test blast as an input detonation load. A distinct element program, UDEC was used to consider the effect of rock joints. In order to verify the validity of proposed method, the test blast was simulated. The predicted results from the proposed method showed a good agreement with the measured vibration data from the test blast. Through the dynamic numerical modelling on the planned road tunnel and slope, we evaluated the effect of blast-induced nitration and the stability of rock slope.

In Video streaming environment, we must consider terminal and network characteristics, such as display resolution, frame rate, computational resource, network bandwidth, etc. The JVT (Joint Video Team) by ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-TVCEG is currently standardizing Scalable Video Coding (SVC). This can represent video bitstreams in different sealable layers for flexible adaptation to terminal and network characteristics. This characteristic is very useful in video streaming applications. One fully scalable video can be extracted with specific target spatial resolution, temporal frame rate and quality level to match the requirements of terminals and networks. Besides, the extraction process is fast and consumes little computational resource, so it is possible to extract the partial video bitstream online to accommodate with changing network conditions etc. With all the advantages of SVC, we design and implement a network-adaptive SVC streaming system with an SVC extractor and a streamer to extract appropriate amounts of bitstreams to meet the required target bitrates and spatial resolutions. The proposed SVC extraction is designed to allow for flexible switching from layer to layer in SVC bitstreams online to cope with the change in network bandwidth. The extraction is made in every GOP unit. We present the implementation of our SVC streaming system with experimental results.

The stability condition of rock slopes is greatly affected by the geometry and strength parameters of discontinuities in the rock masses. Rock slopes Involving movement of rock blocks on discontinuities are failed by one or combination of the three basic failure modes-plane, wedge, and toppling. In rock mechanics, practically all the parameters such as the joint set characteristics, the rock strength properties, and the loading conditions are always subject to a degree of uncertainty. Therefore, a reasonable assessment of the rock slope stability has to include the excavation of the multi-failure modes, the consideration of uncertainties of discontinuity characteristics, and the decision on stabilization measures with favorable cost conditions. This study was performed to provide a new numerical model of the deterministic analysis, reliability analysis, and reliability-based optimization for rock slope stability. The sensitivity analysis was carried out to verify proposed method and developed program; the parameters needed for sensitivity analysis are design variables, the variability of discontinuity properties (orientation and strength of discontinuities), the loading conditions, and rock slope geometry properties. The design variables to be optimized by the reliability-based optimization include the cutting angle, the support pressure, and the slope direction. The variability in orientations and friction angle of discontinuities, which can not be considered in the deterministic analysis, has a greatly influenced on the rock slope stability. The stability of rock slopes considering three basic failure modes is more influenced by the selection of slope direction than any other design variables. When either plane or wedge failure is dominant, the support system is more useful than the excavation as a stabilization method. However, the excavation method is more suitable when toppling failure is dominant. The case study shows that the developed reliability-based optimization model can reasonably assess the stability of rock slopes and reduce the construction cost.

KIGAM (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources) and MRAM (Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia) performed joint survey on Bayan-Onjuul W-Mo mineralized area. Following the survey, we carried out magnetic survey. W-Mo occurrences are located with keeping a certain distance from the northern boundary of granite which has higher magnetic susceptibility values. Also, the 3D imaging results of magnetic inversion show that granite bodies are extended to the W-Mo occurrence areas from the deep main body with decreasing of susceptibility. The results of magnetic data analysis are well matched with the general characteristics of ore solution involved with W mineralization. The further study about the hidden ore deposits which have similar spatial relationship between granite and known WMo occurrences are necessary to improve the economic feasibility.

Even after establishment of H.264/AVC standard, the video coding experts group (VCEG) of ITU-T has researched on development of promising coding techniques to increase coding efficiency based on the key technology area (KTA) software. Recently, the joint collaboration team video coding (JCT-VC) which was composed of the VCEG and the motion picture experts group (MPEG) of ISO/IEC is developing a next-generation video standard namely HEVC intended to gain twice efficiency than H.264/AVC. An adaptive interpolation technique, one of various next-generation techniques, reported higher coding efficiency. However, it has high computational complexity and does not deal with various error characteristics for videos. In this paper, we investigate characteristics of interpolation filters and propose an effective fixed interpolation filter bank including diverse properties of error. Experimental results is shown that the proposed method achieved bitrate reduction by 0.7% and 1.3% compared to fixed directional interpolation filter (FDIF) of the KTA and the directional interpolation filter (DIF) of the HEVC test model, respectively.

This paper presents a new methodology to improve movement database for a humanoid robot. The database is initially full of human motions so that the kinetics characteristics of human movement are immanent in it. then, the database is updated to the pseudo-optimal motions for the humanoid robot to perform more natural motions, which contain the kinetics characteristics of robot. for this, we use the evolutionary algorithm. the methodology consists of two processes : (1) the offline imitation learning of human movement and (2) the online generation of natural motion. The offline process improve the initial human motion database using the evolutionary algorithm and inverse dynamics-based optimization. The optimization procedure generate new motions using the movement primitive database, minimizing the joint torque. This learning process produces a new database that can endow the humanoid robot with natural motions, which requires minimal torques. In online process, using the linear combination of the motion primitive in this updated database, the humanoid robot can generate the natural motions in real time. The proposed framework gives a systematic methodology for a humanoid robot to learn natural motions from human motions considering dynamics of the robot. The experiment of catching a ball thrown by a man is performed to show the feasibility of the proposed framework.

Tilting trains are currently in operation in 13 countries around the world. With the advances in tilting technology, verification of economic efficiency, and changes in economic situations, the introduction of tilting trains will rapidly spread across the globe. The measurement system is composed of the industrial computers installed in the console and the measurement racks mounted on each car. It is utilized to accumulate the data by the communication card and the optical cable. The optical cable and power cable are coupled at the connector located in joint of train to make easy to disconnect car each other. The signal conditioner is designed to choose and to extend the channel for each sensor readily. The sensor measurement rack has adopted as decentralization method. It is installed in each car to minimize the cable length. In also, it is manufactured based on 19"rack and covered to protect the cable. In this study, the programs for measurement and analysis were also developed to understand the traction system characteristics of TTX. Using this measurement system, we studied that acceleration test, re-powering test, and gradually powering test. The acceleration performance of TTX is 1.735 km/h/s, and it is inner standard value. The notch test result from 1 to 7 steps, DC link voltage is under standard value, and the output electric current of inverter is controlled normally. From the test results, we saw the performances of the traction systems are normal.
