  • Endobronchial metastasis of leiomyosarcoma is rare, but it can cause life-threatening complications, such as massive hemoptysis, respiratory failure or even death. The development of new endoscopic modalities allows for effective endobronchial management. We report three patients with endobronchial metastases from advanced leiomyosarcomas which caused bronchial obstruction. The bronchoscopic examinations revealed masses obstructing the left main bronchus in all three patients. After removing the endobronchial tumor via interventional bronchoscopy, there was symptomatic and radiologic improvement. Moreover, the patients were able to undergo additional palliative chemotherapy. Therefore, endobronchial management of endobronchial tumors should be considered in the treatment of endobronchial metastasis, even in patients with advanced malignancies.

  • Objectives: This case report describes a patient who had suffered a stroke and who was treated for a long period with herbal medicine in combination with a Western medicine. Methods: Changes in liver function and renal function laboratory tests were measured while the patient took herbal medicine during the 1190 days of hospitalization. Results: During the hospitalization period, the liver function test (LFT) levels were elevated two fold, but after taking the herbal medicine, the LFT levels were stabilized and have remained stable since. Conclusions: The high risk of prescribing herbal medicine by an unlicensed person and the possibility of long-term herbal medicine usage for stabilizing liver function test were shown.

  • Objectives: This study reports the effect of herbal medicine to replace laxatives for patients with chronic constipation. Methods: The patients who took laxatives due to long-term constipation were prescribed herbal medicine instead. We assessed whether they could defecate without laxatives and if their bowel habits improved using only herbal medicine. Results: The use of herbal medicine instead of laxatives improved patients' defecation and reduced symptoms such as hard stool, difficulty during defecation, and sensation of incomplete evacuation. Conclusions: Through two cases, we found that herbal medicine is effective for patients who are dissatisfied with laxatives.

  • Syringomyelia is a rare disorder that causes a cyst to form in spinal cord. This cyst, called a syrinx, can damage to the spinal cord and cause symptoms such as motor weakness, pain, sensory disturbance, etc. We experienced a case of tactile hypesthesia suspecting syringomyelia in 16 year old male patient. Syringomyelia in T2/3 level was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging. Hypesthesia was similar to mamokbulin in oriental medicine. And we assumed these symptoms induced by conditions called kiheo in analyzing patient's symptoms and signs. We treated the patient by acupuncture, herbal medicine improving kiheo, and other methods. In the result, the symptoms had withdrawn. This case suggested possibility to treat syringomyelia in oriental medicine, but single case is insufficient for evidence.

  • Page kidney refers to the phenomenon of hypertension secondary to long-standing compression of renal parenchyma caused by renal subcapsular collection. The most common cause of renal subcapsular collection is a hematoma which usually occurs after a history of blunt trauma. A 42-year-old female patient who received botulinum toxin injection in her back during chiropractic care was admitted to the emergency room with sudden bilateral flank pain and hypertension. The computed tomography (CT) images demonstrated the presence of bilateral subcapsular renal hematoma. The patient was treated conservatively and recovered well. The follow up CT images showed markedly resolved bilateral hematoma.

  • The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effect of Korean medicine in a patient with anemia of chronic disease (ACD). The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion in combination with Western medicine for around 4 weeks. Although the patient's hemoglobin concentration was maintained at a similar level, the other clinical symptoms of ACD (anorexia, xerostomia, dizziness, and general weakness) were improved after the treatment with Korean medicine. Therefore, Korean medicine treatment may be effective for improving the clinical symptoms of ACD.

  • The purpose of this study is to report on the clinical improvement of a patient treated with Korean medicine for Post COVID-19 syndrome. A 52-year-old male patient with headache and chronic fatigue was diagnosed with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome. He had clinical symptoms such as headache, sweating, fatigue, and insomnia and was treated with acupuncture and herbal medicines such as Sasammaekmoondong-tang. To assess the treatment outcomes, the authors used the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Numeral Rating Scale (NRS). Following treatment, fatigue improved, with the FSS score dropping from 48 at the first visit to 18 at the final visit, and clinical symptoms such as headache and insomnia disappeared. According to the findings of this study, Korean Medicine could be used in the clinic to treat post-COVID-19 complications.

  • This case report shows the effect of Korean medicine treatment in a patient with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after cerebral infarction who is suspected of having post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) due to the loss of thrombus after receiving new oral anticoagulant (NOAC) treatment. The patient was treated with Korean medicine (Boyanghwano-tang and Hyulbuchuko-tang) three times a day. Acupuncture, moxibustion, infrared, and extra-physical therapy were given to the patient for 24 days. Clinical assessment - grading of edema and circumference of the left lower extremity were observed twice a week until the end of the treatment. NOAC treatment was continued for 24 days. After treatment, the patient's edema grade and circumference of the extremity improved. On the 24th day, the patient's chief complaints improved, and she requested termination of treatment. The results suggest that Korean medicine treatments, including Boyanghwano-tang, Hyulbuchuko-tang, and acupuncture therapy, can be effective in improving the clinical symptoms of DVT and PTS.
