Around and in the area of Wolgot-Muon, Gimpo-Gun, Kyunggi province, I examined total bacteria, general Pseudomonas spp., fluorescent Pseudomonas spp., in soil layers and also in different kinds of soil of respective diseased, uncultivated, and healthy areas, and found the followings. 1. In the diseased and uncultivated areas, the content of moisture and silt was greater than in the healthy area. 2. Contrary to the above, the healthy area contained a greater amount of inorganic elements such as $P_2O_5$, K, Ca and of soil particle such as Cs and Fs. The degree of pH and content of Mg were even in three types of soils. 3. Total bacteria were found in abundance in the healthy soil. It was observed that in all types of areas, bacteria reside in abundance in the rhizosphere, i.e., 10-15 cm layers and that the closer the surface, the greater the numbers of the bacteria. 4. General Pseudomonas spp. were also found to the greater in number on the surface of the soil, especially so in the rhizosphere, with the numbers decreasing as the soil layers increase. Numbers of this bacteria in all types of area were nearly uniform. 5. A great number of fluorescent Pseudomonas spp. were found in the diseased area, especially so in the rhizosphere.
A simple and quick separation technique for selenite in natural water was developed using $TiO_2$@$SiO_2/Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. For the synthesis of nanoparticles, a polymer-assisted sol-gel method using hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) was developed to control particle dispersion in the synthetic procedure. In addition, titanium butoxide (TBT) precursor, instead of the typical titanium tetra isopropoxide, was used for the formation of the $TiO_2$ shell. The synthesized nanoparticles were used to separate selenite ($Se^{4+}$) in the presence of $Se^{6+}$ or selenium anions for the photocatalytic reduction to $Se^0$ atom on the $TiO_2$ shell, followed by magnetic separation using $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. The reduction efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction was 81.4% at a UV power of 6W for 3 h with a dark adsorption of 17.5% to the nanoparticles, as determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The developed separation method can be used for the speciation and preconcentration of selenium cations in environmental and biological analysis.
In ancient times, many kinds of different inorganic pigments were used as colorants for making objects. These pigments are still evidentin well known objects such as Danchung, mural painting and Buddhist painting. This study discusses the results obtained from an analysis of the pigments used on the Buddha pigments. The results can be briefly summarized as below; Firstly, the microcrystalline structures revealed on the cross section of analyzed pigments, samples of which were taken from various parts of Buddha pigments show that different sizes and shapes of pigment particle were used for different purposes such as coloring, toning of the pigments. The arrangement of pigments and their usages are varied according to the owner temples and the place where it was created. Secondly, a result of the analysis on the composition and structure of the pigments shows that the main components in their composition are: Red pigments - Red lead($Pb_3O_4$) and Cinnabar(HgS)Green pigments - Malachite[$CuCO_3$.$Cu(OH)_2$] and Prussian Blue[$Fe4(Fe(CN)_6)_2$]Gold pigments - pure gold(Au)Yellow pigments - Orpiment($A_s2S_3)White pigments - Lead Cyanamide[$Pb_3(CO_3)_2(OH)_2]Ultramarine pigments - Azulite[$Cu_3(CO_3)_2(OH)_2]Especially, we knew that pigments used on the Ssanggye temple not repaired to the artificial synthetic pigment

We report the synthesis of $SrTiO_3$, $BaTiO_3$ and $Ba_xSr_{1-x}TiO_3$ (BST) nanoparticles (NPs) in various compositions (x = 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75) by an inorganic sol-gel method under a basic condition. Highly crystalline nanoparticles were formed at the reaction temperature of 25 - $100^{\circ}C$ from a stabilized titanium alkoxide in tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) and barium or strontium acetate in aqueous solution. Morphology and particle structure of the synthesized BST NPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The BST nanoparticles in various compositions were monodispersed without mutual aggregation, and their average sizes were in the range of 70 - 80 nm. Furthermore, they showed highly crystallized perovskite phase over the whole composition range from $SrTiO_3$ to $BaTiO_3$. We also proposed a mechanism for the low-temperature formation of BST NPs.

In this study, we prepared 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 wt% content composites filled in epoxy matrix for two micro silica and three micro alumina types for use as a GIS heavy electric machine. As a filler type of epoxy composite, micro silica composites showed excellent AC breakdown strength properties compared to micro alumina composites in the case of electrical properties of micro silica and alumina. The electrical breakdown properties of micro silica composites increased with increasing filler content, whereas those of micro alumina decreased with increasing filler content. In the case of mechanical properties, the micro silica composite showed improved tensile strength and flexural strength compared with the micro alumina composite. In addition, mechanical properties such as tensile strength and flexural strength of micro silica and alumina composites decreased with increasing filler content. This is probably because O-H groups are present on the surface of silica in the case of micro silica but are not present on the surface of alumina in the case of micro alumina.

Evaluation of the solid surface properties by an analysis of the liquid penetration rate into powder beds is very important in applications of powder products. The penetration rate is related the surface property in powder beds. In order to analyze the surface property of powders, the contact angle values of several powders were obtained using the Washbun equation and the Wicking method. The surface free energy value ${\gamma}S$ was divided into a polar component ${\gamma}S^p$ and a dispersion component ${\gamma}S^d$. Inorganic powders such as calcite were used as test samples. The effects of the particle size and the type of experimental liquid on the penetration rate were measured. It was confirmed that the surface free energy of the grinding sample is smaller than that of the classification sample.

To find a practical application approach of polyelectrolyte multilayering (PEM) on inorganic filler, we introduced PEM process without washing step and investigated the effect of shear condition on the washless PEM treatment of ground calcium carbonate (GCC). Washless multilayering on GCC was conducted under various shear conditions such as stirring, homogenization, and ultrasonication. Highly charged polyelectrolytes combination of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) and poly sodium 4-styrene sulfonate (PSS) and low charged polyelectrolytes combination with cationic starch and anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) were compared. In the case of highly charged polyelectrolytes combination, shear conditions did not affect the zeta potential and the particle size of treated GCC. However, the modified GCC particles with low charged polyelectrolytes were more dispersed under higher shear condition while maintaining the zeta potential. In addition, GCC was successfully modified through laboratory inline washless polyelectrolyte multilayering system which consists of homogenizers and pumps.
A laboratory investigation of the behavior of radioactive metals under the various waste combustion atmospheres was conducted to predict the parameters that influence their partitioning behavior during waste incineration. Neodymium, samarium, cerium, gadolinium, cesium and cobalt were used as non-radioactive surrogate metals that are representative of uranium, plutonium, americium, curium, radioactive cesium, and radioactive cobalt, respectively. Except for cesium, all of the investigated surrogate metal compounds converted into each of their stable oxides at medium temperatures from 400 to 90$0^{\circ}C$, under oxygen- deficient and oxygen-sufficient atmospheres (0.001-atm and 0.21-atm $O_2$). At high temperatures above 1,40$0^{\circ}C$, cerium, neodymium and samarium in the form of their oxides started to vaporize but the vaporization rates were very slow up to 150$0^{\circ}C$ . Inorganic chlorine (NaCl) as well as organic chlorine (PVC) did not impact the volatility of investigated Nd$_2$O$_3$, CoO and Cs$_2$O. The results of laboratory investigations suggested that the combustion chamber operating parameters affecting the entrainment of particulate and filtration equipment operating parameters affecting particle collection efficiency be the governing parameters of alpha radionuclides partitioning during waste incineration.

Recently, it tend to increase the high-rise and large-scale of buildings and the developtment of construction technology can to be applied reinforced concrete structures to high-rise buildings. However, when a high-rise buildings is constructed with reinforced concrete, it has a disadvantage that buildings weight increases. In order to resolve the weight of reinforced concrete structures, various types of lightweight aggregates become development and research. Although lightweight aggregates can be reduced the weight of concrete, the strength of ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) is lowered due to its less strength than natural aggregates. In this study, an experimental study was conducted to coat the surface of lightweight aggregates with GGBFS(ground granulated blast furnace slag) to improve the strength of cement matrix mixed with lightweight aggregates. Result of this experimental study shows that the compressive strnegth of the surface coating lightweight aggregates was higher than general lightweight aggregates. Also, it was considered that this is because the pore at the ITZ of the surface-coated lightweight aggregates mixed cement matrix are filled with GGBFS fine particle.
