  • This study examined the relationship between parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, social support, neighborhood context, and parental involvement in preschool children's education in low income families. Total 460 low income parents' data about parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, social support, neighborhood context, and parental involvement are collected from the data of index studies for Korean child and adolescent's development in 2009. Parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, perceived social support and perceived neighborhood context correlated positively with parental involvement. Regression analysis detected different patterns of association between these variables and the three dimensions of parent involvement. Perceived neighborhood context was associated with child care involvement, while parental efficacy was the most influential factor related to child leisure involvement. Marriage satisfaction was the strongest factor influencing involvement in children's educational activity. These results support the validity of a multi-dimensional, ecological conceptualization of parent involvement in low income families.

  • As rural life has shifted with the long term changes in the internal and external conditions of rural communities, this study aims to investigate the living conditions and life satisfaction of rural women. 70 questionnaires in health, clothing, food, shelter, economic conditions and child-rearing fields were used for a survey of 393 rural women from five rural areas in the northern region of Gyeongsangbuk-Do. Statistical techniques of frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test and regression analysis were employed through 'SPSS Statistics 21'. Participants were divided into 3 groups, with Group A with income less than 15 million won, Group B with income of at least 15 million won and less than 30 million won, and Group C with at least 30 million won. For the life satisfaction and health conditions, Group C showed higher scores than Group A. The food security status of rural women in the research area was worse than that in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and food consumption by Group C was higher than that of Group A and Group B. For the satisfaction of kitchen, bathroom facilities and heating system, the income of 15 million won seemed to be the divisive value where richer groups were more satisfied. Job satisfaction seemed more related with the income amount rather than with the job itself. The parenting efficacy and child-rearing satisfaction were higher for Group C than for Group A. Determinants of life satisfaction turned out to be health conditions, heat susceptibility, fruit consumption, kitchen unit satisfaction, job satisfaction and parenting efficacy.

For this study, the data from the 8th analysis of the 2013 Korea Welfare Panel Survey conducted by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs were used. For the sample, 903 male Household heads with children under the age of 18, were selected. For statistical analysis, SPSS program (Ver. 21.0) was used. And for statistical methods, frequency and percentile, mean and standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, one way analysis of variance, Duncan's multiple range tests, multiple regression analysis were used. The findings are as follows. First, as a results of analyzing the food costs, education costs and housing costs depending on Income Quintile, the food costs and education costs in the 5th Income Quintile compared with other Income Quintile, were highest. Also, the highest housing cost was in the 2nd Income Quintile, while the least housing cost was in the 1st Income Quintile. Second, by analyzing the differences of Engel coefficient, Angel coefficient and Schwabe index according to Income Quintile, the results show that Engel coefficient and Schwabe index decreases as Income Quintile increases, and Angel coefficient increases as Income Quintile becomes higher. Third, the level of HH's life satisfaction according to Income Quintile, 1st Income Quintile, 2nd Income Quintile, 4th Income Quintile, 3rd Income Quintile, 5th Income Quintile in order, increased. Fourth, as the result of analyzing the influence of Variables related to household and demographics about Engel coefficient, Angel coefficient and Schwabe index, it was shown that the variables effecting Engel coefficient, Angel coefficient, and Schwabe index are age, occupations, Number of workers, House ownership, Income Quintile. Fifth, As a result of analyzing the Variables effecting life satisfaction, especially while Schwabe index is not that significant, Engel coefficient and Angel coefficient are shown to have a significant influence. • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to the parental role in satisfaction and parenting behaviors. The subjects were 102 employed mothers and 110 unemployed mothers of 5-year-old children living in Seoul, Korea. The measures were questionnaire, the Parental Role Satisfaction Scale and the Parenting Behaviors Scale. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, frequency, percentile, mean, correlation, multiple regression and Chow-test. Consistent with Belsky's model of the determinants of parenting, the parental role satisfaction and parenting behaviors of both employed and unemployed mothers were influenced by child characteristics, parent characteristics, and family factors. Results showed that the parental role satisfaction of both employed and unemployed mothers was correlated to child's birth order, temperament and health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, fathers' educational level, and family income. Parenting behaviors were also correlated to sex of child, child's birth order, temperament of child, parental educational level, and family income for employed mothers and to health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, mothers' educational level, and family income for unemployed mothers. Especially, father's age for employed mothers, and child's temperament for unemployed mothers, were the most strongly related variables for parental role satisfaction. On the other hand, family income for employed mothers, and fathers' age for unemployed mothers were the most strongly related variables for parenting behaviors.
