  • This study is to investigate the influence of catalyst loading quantity on the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) performance. In this paper, Pt-Ru and Pt-black loading as the catalyst were varied from 1 to $4mg/cm^2$ at the anode and cathode, respectively. The experiment was conducted with single fuel cell consisted of $5cm^2$ effective electrode area, serpentine type flow pattern and Nafion 117 membrane. Also, AC impedance and methanol crossover current were measured to investigate the performance loss precisely. As a result, the performance of fuel cell was significantly increased with the increase of cathode catalyst loading. However, the performance did not increase further above a certain Pt-Ru catalyst loading as the increase of anode catalyst loading.

  • This paper describes characteristics of independent load sharing of parallel UPS systems and proposes a method of control which does not require control interconnections at each UPS system and compensates for line impedance. Simulation results of a two-module UPS system with different power latins and line impedance have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed control scheme in load sharing.

  • 0.2 mo1% La doped BaTiO3 samples were prepared by a wet chemical process (Pechini process) and electrical conductivity were measured from annealing temperatures(800-110$0^{\circ}C$) to room temperature continuously. 2 probe I-V characteristics showed that Pt electrodes were non-ohmic below about 80$0^{\circ}C$ for Ladoped sample. I-V curves showed varistor behavior and breakdown voltages showed PTC-like behavior. AC complex impedance of 0.2 La and 0.05 Mn mo1% doped BaTiO3 samples with three different electrodes (electroless Ni, Pt, Ag electrodes) were measured with temperature variation. Complex impedance plots showed that the samples with electroless Ni electrodes have negligible electrode resistance. Samples with Ag or Pt paste electrodes showed large electrode resistance. PTC effect, which is defined as the ratio of maximum resistance to minimum resistance, was found to be less than 10 for 0.2 mo1% La doped dense sample however greater than 105 with codoping of 0.05 mo1% Mn and 0.2 mol% La.

  • We constructed a class I Flextensional transducer, and analyzed the variation of the resonance frequency of the transducer in relation to its design variables. We used the FEM for the analysis. Major axis length, minor axis length, thickness and material properties of the shell have large effects on the resonance frequency. In addition, the validation of the FE model was verified by manufacturing and comparison of the impedance analysis.

  • Based on characteristics of resonator in BPF, a resonant characteristic is obtained by using variation of characteristic impedance in rectangular waveguide. And we have designed and made a novel waveguide BPF with this phenomenon. This filter can be made with arbitrary lengths of rectangular waveguide resonators.

  • To obtain high power, diesel engines continuously increase combustion pressure and mean effective pressure each cylinder, and the excitation sources and noisy sources are increased, too. Moreover, to reduce the costs, shipyards make hull structures weaker than before. As above reasons, it is more difficult to control the vibration phenomenon nowadays. In this study, it was investigated why diesel generator sets reached the vibration allowable limits during the FAT and heavy vibration phenomenon of diesel generator sets using ODS test during onboard tests. Also, it is found out the stiffness of deck and common bed using the test result of their structural impedance. To find out the vibratory characteristics of diesel generator sets, model tests were carried out. From the sensitivity analysis after above tests, it was selected points to be reinforced and studied troubleshooting to solve heavy vibration phenomenon of diesel generator sets.

  • The transmission loss coefficient is very important acoustic property in parallel with absorption and acoustic impedance categorizing the acoustical materials, which can control the acoustical problems. At the same time, the transmission loss coefficient is a key parameter to choose the optimum material for the analysis of acoustical characteristics of material using SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis). In this paper, the transmission loss coefficient measurement system usiong 4-microphone impedance tube is proposed, based on the idea calculating the full transger matrix of the acoustical sample to test. The theoretical backgroung and measurement system are introduced, and finally the measurement results are verified.

  • Charge amplifier systems benefit from the very wide dynamic range of PE accelerometers by offering flexibility in adjusting the electrical output characteristics such as sensitivity and range. They are well suited for operation at high temperatures. Modern charge systems feature improved low noise operation, simplified digital controls, and dual mode operation for operation with charge or IEPE voltage mode sensors. high impedance circuitry is not well suited for operation in adverse field or factory environments. The resolution of a PE accelerometer may not be specified or known since noise is a system consideration determined by cable length and amplifier gain. IEPE accelerometrs operate from a constant current power source, provide a high-voltage, low-impedance, fixed mV/g output. They operate through long, ordinary, coaxial cable in adverse environments without degradation of signal quality. They have limited high temperature range. IEPE sensors are simple to operate. Both resolution and operating range are defined specifications. Cost perchannel is lower compared to PE systems since low-noise cable and charge amplifiers are not required.

  • Recently, signal integrity on PCB (printed circuit board) becomes very important as the system operation speed increases. So far, PCB is customarily designed to minimize area and cost. However, ultra-high-speed PCB often fail to operate properly, unless it is precisely and carefully designed considering dielectric characteristics, line width, line spacing, and impedance matching. This paper surveys many problems in ultra-high-speed PCB and various design methods to mitigate them.

  • Electronic devices are very weak against lightning surges injected from grounding systems and can be damaged. The malfunction and damage of electronic circuits bring about several disadvantages such as low operation performances, a lot of economical losses, and etc. In order to obtain the effective protection measure of electronic devices from overvoltages and lightning surges, the analysis of the transient grounding impedances is very important. The aim of this work is to evaluate the behaviors of transient grounding impedances under impulse currents and to investigate the effect of grounding lead wire. Z-t, Z-i and V-i curves of transient grounding impedance under impulse current waveforms have been measured and analyzed.
