Far-infrared observations provide crucial data for the investigation and characterisation of the properties of dusty material in the Interstellar Medium (ISM), since most of its energy is emitted between ~ 100 and $200{\mu}m$. We present the first all-sky image from a sensitive all-sky survey using the Japanese AKARI satellite, in the wavelength range $50-180{\mu}m$. Covering > 99% of the sky in four photometric bands with four filters centred at $65{\mu}m$, $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ wavelengths, this achieved spatial resolutions from 1 to 2 arcmin and a detection limit of < 10 MJy $sr^{-1}$, with absolute and relative photometric accuracies of < 20%. All-sky images of the Galactic dust continuum emission enable astronomers to map the large-scale distribution of the diffuse ISM cirrus, to study its thermal dust temperature, emissivity and column density, and to measure the interaction of the Galactic radiation field and embedded objects with the surrounding ISM. In addition to the point source population of stars, protostars, star-forming regions, and galaxies, the high Galactic latitude sky is shown to be covered with a diffuse filamentary-web of dusty emission that traces the potential sites of high latitude star formation. We show that the temperature of dust particles in thermal equilibrium with the ambient interstellar radiation field can be estimated by using $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ data. The FIR AKARI full-sky maps provide a rich new data set within which astronomers can investigate the distribution of interstellar matter throughout our Galaxy, and beyond.

Followed by that HTML5(Hypertext Markup Language5) was introduced, many kinds of program and services based on this have been developed and released. HTML5 is technical standard specifications for cross platform for personal computers and mobile devices so that it is expected that continuing progress and wide application in the both sides of the academic and the industrial fields increase. This study is to design and implement a mobile application program for overlay rendering with DEM and other geo-based image sets using HTML5 WebGL for 3D graphic processing on web environment. Particularly, the blending technique was used for overlay processing with multiple images. Among available WebGL frameworks, CubicVR.js was adopted, and various blending techniques were provided in the user interface for general users. For the actual application in the study area around the Sejong city, serveral types of geo-based data sets were used and processed: KOMPSAT-2 images, ALOS PALSAR SAR images, and grid data by environment measurements. While, DEM for 3D viewing with these geo-based images was produced using contour information of the digital map sets. This work demonstrates possibilities that new types of contents and service system using geo-based images can be extracted and applied.

Red sorrel (Rumex acetosella L.), as one of exotic weeds in Korea, was dominated in grassland and reduced the quality of forage. Improving current pasture productivity by precision management requires practical tools to collect site-specific pasture weed data. Recent development in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology has offered cost effective and real time applications for site-specific data collection. To map red sorrel on a hill pasture, we tested the potential use of an UAV system with digital cameras (visible and near-infrared (NIR) camera). Field measurements were conducted on grazing hill pasture at Hanwoo Improvement Office, Seosan City, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Korea on May 17, 2014. Plant samples were obtained at 20 sites. An UAV system was used to obtain aerial photos from a height of approximately 50 m (approximately 30 cm spatial resolution). Normalized digital number values of Red, Green, Blue, and NIR channels were extracted from aerial photos. Multiple linear regression analysis results showed that the correlation coefficient between Rumex content and 4 bands of UAV image was 0.96 with root mean square error of 9.3. Therefore, UAV monitoring system can be a quick and cost effective tool to obtain spatial distribution of red sorrel data for precision management of hilly grazing pasture.

In this paper, a new hardware and software architecture for a stereo vision processing system including rectification, disparity estimation, and visualization was developed. The developed method, named LArge scale stereo matching method using Support Point Interpolation (LASPI), shows excellence in real-time processing for obtaining dense disparity maps from high quality image regions that contain high density support points. In the real-time processing of high definition (HD) images, LASPI does not degrade the quality level of disparity maps compared to existing stereo-matching methods such as Efficient LArge-scale Stereo matching (ELAS). LASPI has been designed to meet a high frame-rate, accurate distance resolution performance, and a low resource usage even in a limited resource environment. These characteristics enable LASPI to be deployed to safety-critical applications such as an obstacle recognition system and distance detection system for autonomous vehicles. A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for the LASPI algorithm has been implemented in order to support parallel processing and 4-stage pipelining. From various experiments, it was verified that the developed FPGA system (Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA, 148.5MHz Clock) is capable of processing 30 HD ($1280{\times}720pixels$) frames per second in real-time while it generates disparity maps that are applicable to real vehicles.

Object-based classification methods provide a valid alternative to traditional pixel-based methods. This study reports the results of an object-based classification to examine land cover in the demilitarized zones(DMZs) of Inje-gun. We used land cover classes(7 classes for main category and 13 classes for sub-category) selected from the criteria by Korea Ministry of Environment. The average and standard deviation of the spectrum values, and homogeneity of GLCM were chosen to map land cover types in an hierarchical approach using the nearest neighborhood method. We then identified the distributional characteristics of land cover by considering 3 topographic characteristics (altitude, slope gradient, distance from the Southern Limited Line(SLL)) within the DMZs. The results showed that scale 72, shape 0.2, color 0.8, compactness 0.5 and smoothness 0.5 were the optimum weight values while scale, shape and color were most influenced parameters in image segmentation. The forests (92%) were main land cover type in the DMZs; the grassland(5%), the urban area (2%) and the forests (broadleaf forest: 44%, mixed forest: 42%, coniferous forest: 6%) also occupied mostly in land cover classes for sub-category. The results also showed that facilities and roads had higher density within 2 km from the SLL, while paddy, field and bare land were distributed largely outside 6 km from the SLL. In addition, there was apparent distinction in land cover by topographic characteristics. The forest had higher density at above altitude 600m and above slope gradient $30^{\circ}$ while agriculture, bare land and grass land were distributed mainly at below altitude 600m and below slope gradient $30^{\circ}$.

Conventional Earthquake Early Warning System (EEWS) detects the propagated P-wave from epicenter which should be achieved within 5 seconds to provide seconds to minutes of warning, allowing people to prepare for protective actions. EEWS in Korea is currently capable of providing a warning within 50 seconds after the primary P-wave detection, however, it is well-known that earthquake warning systems operating around Korean National Parks (KNP) have limited capability to fully monitor earthquake events. This study, therefore, presents a strategy to quantify the potential vulnerability to earthquake hazards by superimposing the distribution of Korea Integrated Seismic System (KISS) and the discretized map of KNP. Total 22 national parks are evaluated, and the results suggest that the improvement of the on-site systems should be necessitated for Gyoengju, Gyeryongsan, Songnisan, Gayasan, and Deogyusan national parks, whereas enhancement of regional systems is required for Bukhansan national park.

This study investigates the feasibility of three algorithms, K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Random Forest (RF) and Neural Network (NN), for estimating the air temperature of an unobserved area where the weather station is not installed. The satellite image were obtained from Landsat-8 and MODIS Aqua/Terra acquired in 2019, and the meteorological ground weather data were from AWS/ASOS data of Korea Meteorological Administration and Korea Forest Service. In addition, in order to improve the estimation accuracy, a digital surface model, solar radiation, aspect and slope were used. The accuracy assessment of machine learning methods was performed by calculating the statistics of R2 (determination coefficient) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) through 10-fold cross-validation and the estimated values were compared for each target area. As a result, the neural network algorithm showed the most stable result among the three algorithms with R2 = 0.805 and RMSE = 0.508. The neural network algorithm was applied to each data set on Landsat imagery scene. It was possible to generate an mean air temperature map from June to September 2019 and confirmed that detailed air temperature information could be estimated. The result is expected to be utilized for national disaster safety management such as heat wave response policies and heat island mitigation research.
We applied PSInSAR to two SAR satellite (ALOS-1 and COSMO-SkyMed) images and analyzed the difference in displacement observation performance according to sensor characteristics. The building layer was extracted from the digital topographic map, and the PS extracted from the SAR image was classified into two groups(building structure and ground surface) for density analysis. The density of PS extracted from the research area was $0.023point/m^2$ for ALOS-1 PALSAR and $0.1point/m^2$ for COSMO-SkyMed, more than 4 times PS was extracted compared to ALOS-1. In addition, not only the PS density in the building, but also the density in the ground were greatly increased. The average displacement velocity of ALOS-1 PALSAR is within ${\pm}1cm/yr$, while for COSMO-SkyMed it is within ${\pm}0.3cm/yr$. Although it is difficult to make quantitative comparisons because it does not use the data for the same period, it can be said that the accuracy of X-band SAR system is very high compared to the L-band. In consideration of PS observation density and observation accuracy of displacement, X-band SAR data is very effective in research where it is important to acquire useful signals from the ground surface, such as ground subsidence and sinkhole.

The objective of this study is to assess attenuation correction algorithms utilized in a multipurpose whole-body GSO PET scanner. Four different types of phantoms were tested using different types of attenuation correction techniques. FOV (Field of View) of 256mm was used for brain PET imaging. For compensating attenuation, transmission data of a $^{137}$Cs point source were acquired after the F-18 emission source was infused to the phantoms. Scatter correction were peformed. Reconstructed images of the phantoms were assessed. In addition, reconstructed images of a normal subject were compared and assessed by nuclear medicine physicians. As a result, decreased intensity at the central portion of the attenuation map with cylindrical phantom was noticed during use of the measured attenuation correction. On the other hand, segmentation or remapping attenuation correction provided uniform phantom image. the images reconstructed from the clinical brain data explained the attenuation of a skull, at though reconstructed images of the phantoms couldn't explain it. in conclusion, the complicated and improved attenuation correction methods were required to obtain the better accuracy of the quantitative brain PET images. Our study will be useful in improving quantitative brain PET imaging modalities with attenuation correction of $^{137}$Cs transmission source.

Experiments and simulation were done to study the impact of contrast agent when CT scan was used to attenuation correction for PET images in PET/CT system. Whole body phantom was imaged with various concentration of iodine-based contrast agent using CT. Mathematical emission and transmission density map with liver were made to simulate for whole body FDG imaging. Various transmission density maps was generated with non-uniform enhancement of contrast agent, hypo-attenuating of contrast agent for tumor, different concentration of contrast agent, and so on. Attenuation correction was done with all transmission maps. In the experiments, we confirmed that attenuation coefficient was changed by concentration of contrast agent. From the simulation data, image quality of attenuation corrected images was affected by contrast agent and artifact was produced by contrast agent. These results indicated that the contrast agent should be used with a full understanding of its potential problem in PET/CT system.
