  • This study is designed to reduction of hydration heat of 4 layer division-placed mass concrete considering the difference of setting time of super retarding agent. According to the results, peak temperature of plain concrete by hydration heat show $63^{\circ}C$ around the age of 1 days. Hydration heat is lowest in the bottom layer, and highest in the middle of 3rd layer from the bottom. Hydration heat of mock up structure, which is division-placed at the same interval of 1 and 2 days by setting time difference of super retarding agent, is highest in the bottom layer because after peak temperature of 4th layer, hydration reaction progresses in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer. But in mock up structure which is division-placed at the various interval. peak temperature by hydration heat is reduced by about $13^{\circ}C$, compared with plain concrete because after first peak hydration heat of 4th layer (plain concrete), hydration reaction progresses after the drop of hydration heat in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer.

  • Length change, hydration heat, setting time and compressive strength of OPC were measured by adding KCl and replacing limestone powder so as to examine the influence of limestone powder on hydration of the OPC contained much chloride. In general, the chloride modified cement was high in heat of hydration, short in its setting time, low in its fluidity and low in its strength at 28 days due to the sudden hydration in its initial stage. As a result of the experiment, it has been demonstrated that heat of hydration, became low as one replaced limestone powder to the chloride modified cement, and the fluidity and shrinkage rate of mortar decreased without change in setting time; furthermore, the compressive strength at 28 days was improved.

  • Placing lift is applied to place mass concrete in order to reduce thermal cracks by hydration heat. But they results in cold joint between placing lifts, which bring about the loss of strength, water tightness and undesirable appearance. Therefore, in this paper, mechanical and hydration heat of mass concrete using super retarding agent developed through previous study are investigated in order to reduce the hydration heat and place it without place lift. According to test results, placing lifts combined with normal concrete and concrete containing super retarding agent have positive effects on reducing hydration heat. Especially, the crack index by thermal stress of the concrete containing super retarding agent less than a quarter, compared to that of plain concrete without placing lifts, and less than a half, compared to that of plain concrete with placing lifts.

  • Hydration is the main reason for the growth of the material properties. A exact parameter to control the chemical and physical process is not the time, but the degree of hydration. Therefore, it is reasonable that development all material properties should be formulated in terms of degree of hydration. Mathematical formulation of degree of hydration is based on combination of reaction rate functions. The effect of moisture conditions as well as temperature on the rate of reaction is considered in the degree of hydration model. This effect is subdivided into two contributions: water shortage and water distribution. The former is associated with the effect of on the progress of hydration. The water needed for progress of hydration do not exist and there is not enough space for the reaction products to form. The latter is associated with the effect of free capillary water distribution in the pore system. Physically absorption layer does not contribute to progress of hydration and only free water is available for further hydration.

  • This paper presents the results of field experiment to apply the difference of setting tine method using super retarding agent for reducing hydration heat of mass concrete of foundation. According to the results, as the properties of fresh concrete, base concrete satisfies aimed slump and air content, and there is no difference of slump and air content with mixture of super retarding agent. The mixing ratio of super retarding agent is determined for setting time to be retarded by 12 hours in comparison with base concrete, but because the temperature of the air and concrete is low, the difference of setting time is retarded to 24 hours. In man concrete of foundation to which the difference of setting time method is applied, crack by hydration heat is not seen because the lower concrete of super retarding agent generates heat after generation of hydration heat of the upper concrete.

  • This paper is to investigate the mock up test results of mass concrete for transfer girder using setting time difference with super retarding agent(SRA) to reduce hydration heat. According to test results, the temperature history of plain concrete without placing lift had a steep rising curvature, and plain concrete had a big temperature difference between surface and middle section of mass concrete, which may result in occurrence of temperature crack. However, considering placing method B, because setting time of middle section concrete was retarded with an increase in SRA contents, higher hydration heat temperature was observed at surface section concrete compared with that at middle section concrete at early age, which can lower the possibility of hydration heat crack. In case of placing method C, although peak temperature of hydration heat was much lower, at early age, high crack occurrence possibility of the hydration heat attributable to the big temperature difference between middle section and bottom section of concrete was expected at bottom section concrete. Therefore, the structure above the ground like transfer girder is not applicable to consider the placing method C.

  • In this study, influence of different stone powders (SP), including limestone powders (LP), quartzite powders (QP), and granitic powders (GP), on the hydration behaviors of portland cement, for example, setting time, hydration heat, and hydration products, were discussed. The initial and the final setting time both shorten when the content of LP is 5 %, however, they are slightly delayed by the other two SPs. The LP has no obvious influence on the arrival time of the first peak in the exothermal curves, and it makes the peak value decrease; the other two SPs postpone the appearance of the first peak, and they also make the peak value decrease. For the second peak, LP shifts the peak position to the left, QP has no effect on this peak position, and GP makes the appearance of this peak delayed by 143 min. Similarly, three kinds of SPs have different influence on the hydration products of portland cement. The LP precipitates the formation of hydrated calcium carbo aluminate, the QP the formation of hydrated garnet, and the GP makes the amount of Tobermorite increase.

  • This study is for the great quantity use of fly-ash. For the producing of high volume concrete from the use of fly-ash, the method of replacement between bonding agents and fine aggregate by fly-ash was used at the same time. It was used that the adiabatic temperature rise of concrete about the mass member which had been produced by the method that was mentioned before, and the hydration heat of the core test pieces in concrete was measured. Also the core test pieces which were replaced with fly-ash was studied by the compressive strength's comparison between standard care test pieces and core test pieces. In the case of mass test pieces, hydration heat and the time to reach the highest temperature were decreased by an increase in replaced fly-ash's amounts of concrete. In addition, among the test pieces having the same amounts of concrete, the test pieces having more replaced amounts of fly-ash's fine aggregate showed higher hydration heat and the increased time to reach the highest temperature. Compressive strength was also increased by hydration heat's decrease according to fly-ash replacement. Replacement of fly-ash was more effective in high temperature environment.
