  • To predict autogenous shrinkage of concrete, unsaturated pore compensation factor could be calculated by experiments of autogenous shrinkage of cement paste on the assumption that the differences between degree of hydration and strain rate of autogenous shrinkage are unsaturated pore formation rate. Applying unsaturated pore compensation factor on modified Pickket model considering contribution factor and non-contribution factor to autogenous shrinkage of concrete, experimental data and existing model were compared. From the results modified Pickket model was verified to present similar tendency between Tazawa model and experimental data, but CEB-FIP model might be corrected because this model uses ultimate autogenous shrinkage underestimated and the same autogenous time function of concrete material properties considering only compressive strength.

  • In this study, with new office construction site of S Construction company as subject, to solve all the problems according to reduced hydration heat and temperature crack of mass concrete used mat foundation and placing time difference, low heat combination of coarse particle cement and fly-ash and setting time difference applied AE water reducing agent, and to prevent the early frost damage caused by low outdoor temperature, a heat insulation method using double bubble sheet was conducted. As a result, it was found that hydration heat and setting time difference was reduced by applying a low heat combination and setting time difference construction method, and that the high insulation capability of the double bubble sheet was able to not only prevent the early frost damage but also reduce temperature difference between the central part and the upper part of mass concrete.

  • The setting and hardening of concrete is accompanied by nonlinear temperature distribution caused by developing heat of cement hydration. This leads to tensile stresses that may exceed the strength of the young concrete, and cracks occur. In this present study, the heat of hydration characteristics are obtained from a study in which insulated concrete cubes were tested. Based on test results, concrete heat of hydration characteristics according to unit weight cement and flyash replacement quantity are determined, then employed in a numerical temperature analysis that consider both environmental interaction and concreting phases. The numerical results are performed by ADINA - T. The analytical results are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • This Study is performed Mock-up test accounting for height of placement to review behavior of mass concrete according to kinds of cement & form. First, we measured hydration heat and show a different hydration heat generation characteristics as compared with each other. And we measured mortar outflow, the strength of concrete core and standard specimens, concrete's ability to resist chloride ion penetration in order to durability estimation of concrete. This study was aims to improve quality of mass concrete under marine environment.

  • When calcium sulfoaluminate-based expansive cement was hydrated, ettringite and monosulfate were mainly formed. The crack of hardened cement was prevented by compensating drying shrinkage due to formation of the above hydrates. In order to study the hydration properties of calcium sulfoaluminate-based expanding cement, 3CaOㆍ3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍCaSO$_4$(C$_4$A$_3$S) was prepared by chemical synthesis, and then the hydration of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.$2H_2O$-C$_3$A system_was characterized. Good $C_4$A$_3$S phase was prepared at $1300^{\circ}C$ by chemical synthesis, and the main hydration product of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.2$H_2O$ system was ettringite. In the case of hydration $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$ㆍ 2$H_2O$-C$_3$A system, ettringite was formed in the early period and it was transformed into monosulfate while consumed gypsum.

  • Silica fume influences concrete diffusivity and permeability as well as strength by densifying the microstructure of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) of high strength concrete, by reducing the capillary porosity of cement paste and by producing less diffusible and permeable pozzolanic CSH gel than CSH gel of conventional cement hydration. This paper presents a procedure to predict the chloride ion diffusivity and water permeability of the high strength concrete containing silica fume. Water binder ratio, silica fume addition, degree of hydration and volume fraction of aggregates are considered as the major factors influencing concrete diffusivity and permeability in the procedure. Analytical results using the procedure are shown and verified with other data.

  • The states of alkali occuring in Portland cement clinker were studied. Potassium was added to raw mixture by there kinds ; $K_2SO_4$, $K_2CO_3$ and KOH. In case of $K_2CO_3$ and KOH addition the new state of unstable alkali was found when alkakli content is high and $SO_3$ content is low in the clinker. Unstable state of highly basic free 4K_2O$ causes lowering burnability much more than alkali sulfate especially at the early stage of burning. Lowered burnability by 4K_2O$ became more serious with higher LSF. Unstable free-4K_2O$ which is readily soluble with water reacts with gypsum to form $Ca(OH)_2$ and syngenite as soon as water is added. As a results the liberation rate of heat of hydration at the early hydration process(1st peak) was increased.

  • Recently, serious cracking problems have been reported in this country while the process of actual massive concrete construction. he hydration heat arising from the chemical reaction of cement with water causes temperature differentials in between inside and outside of a structural member, and these temperature differentials induce thermal stresses. In this paper, we described on the practical application and quality control of the mass concrete mixed with fly-ash. This project is investigating adiabatic temperature rise test of concrete, mock-up test in the laboratory, ad B/P before placing the mass concrete in site. As a result, we can be prevent temperature cracking from the cement hydration heat of mass concrete and also can be showed up secure quality control flow chart of mass concrete.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and to apply the self-compaction concrete mixture to field, having not only high strength but also compensation for shrinkage without thermal crack under 4 sides outer restraint of the member. In the experimental mix, replacement ratio of limestone Powder, CSA expansive additives, and unit water were selected as parameters, using portland blast-furnace slag cement. And, bleeding test, expansibility test, hydration heat analysis were performed. As a results, when Cement is replaced with 35% limestone Powder, 6% CSA expansive additives at unit water 175kg/$m^3$, demanded performances of fresh and hardened self-compaction concrete are accomplished in the field application.

  • In this study, We synthesized new generation of superplasticizer(SP) which show a shrinkage reducing effect as well as water reducing effect with adequate slump retention in a wide range of water cement ratio by introduction a shrinkage-reducing group into the molecular structure. To investigate effects of the SRS on the hydration of cement, DSC have been analysed. Also the general and shrinkage properties of the concrete were evaluated.
