A Multiagent-Based Hybrid Power Control and Management of Distributed Power Sources

  • In this paper, a multi-agent control system for DC-coupled photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), ultracapacitor(UC) and battery hybrid power system is studied for commercial buildings & apartment buildings microgrid. In this proposed system, the PV system provides electric energy to the electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for future use and transfer to the load side, if possible. Whenever the PV system cannot completely meet load demands, the FC system provides power to meet the remaining load. A multi-agent system based-power management and control algorithm is proposed for the hybrid power system by taking into account the characteristics of each power source. The main works of this paper are hybridization of alternate energy sources with FC systems using long and short storage strategies to build the multi-agent control system with pragmatic design, and a dynamic model proposed for a PV/FC/UC/battery bank hybrid power generation system. A dynamic simulation model for the hybrid power system has been developed using Matlab/Simulink, SimPowerSystems and Stateflow. Simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-agent control and management system for building microgrid.

A Combining Scheme for Partial Incremental Redundancy based Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request in MIMO Systems (다중 안테나 시스템에서 부분 증분 리던던시 방식 Hybrid ARQ를 위한 결합 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a combining scheme for partial IR based hybrid ARQ in MIMO systems. The proposed combining scheme is a symbol-level combining scheme for repeatedly transmitted systematic symbols in partial IR based hybrid ARQ. In this paper, it is shown that the proposed combining scheme can also enhance the detection performance of the parity symbols that are newly transmitted in each retransmission. Simulation results show that the proposed combining scheme significantly improves the performance of the partial IR based hybrid ARQ compared to the cases of the conventional bit-level combining scheme, especially with the ZF detection.

  • In this paper, we introduce multi-intuitionistic fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy hybrid sets. The basic operations between such structures are defined. The use of these structures in the definition of intuition is tic fuzzy variants of P systems and their properties are presented.

  • A magnetic levitation system with hybrid magnets, which is composed of permanent magnets and electromagnets, consumes less power than the conventional attraction type system. In this paper, we propose PID controller and PID-Fuzzy controller for hybrid magnet. We first present "constant gap" control technology with PID controller.   • Major obstruction of using formal methods for hybrid real-time systems in industry is the difficulty that engineers have in understanding and applying the quantitative methods in an abstract requirements phase. While formal methods technology in safety-critical systems can help increase confidence of software, difficulty and complexity in using them can cause another hazard. In order to overcome this obstruction, we propose a framework for qualitative requirements engineering of the hybrid real-time systems. It consists of a qualitative method for requirements specification, called QFM (Qualitative Formal Method), and a safety analysis method for the requirements based on a causality information, called CRSA (Causal Requirements Safety Analysis). QFM emphasizes the idea of a causal and qualitative reasoning in formal methods to reduce the cognitive burden of designers when specifying and validating the software requirements of hybrid safety systems. CRSA can evaluate the logical contribution of the software elements to the physical hazard of systems by utilizing the causality information that is kept during specification by QFM. Using the Shutdown System 2 of Wolsong nuclear power plants as a realistic example, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

  • It is well known that solar tracking systems can increase the efficiency of exiting solar panels significantly. In this paper, a hybrid solar tracking system has been developed by using both astronomical estimates from a GPS and the image processing results of a camera vision system. A decision making process is also proposed to distinguish current weather conditions using camera images. Based on the decision making results, the proposed hybrid tracking system switches two tracking control methods. The one control method is based on astronomical estimates of the current solar position. And the other control method is based on the solar image processing result. The developed hybrid solar tracking system is implemented on an experimental platform and the performance of the developed control methods are verified.

  • A pneumatic cylinder has been used in the production facilities of various industries. However, it is difficult to achieve deciding the precise position of the piston rod, due to the nonlinear properties arising from the air compression and the friction. In recent years, the fuzzy control algorithm has been frequently applied to various kinds of systems on account of its simple algorithm, good adaptability to complex or nonlinear systems and so on. On the other hand, the PID or I-PD control has been used in many engineering fields because of the excellent performance. However, it is known that each one of them has disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a hybrid control which is strived to obtain the advantages of each other. It is shown that the proposed hybrid control performs better than the conventional I-PD control through the experimental results.

  • Fractal image compression can reduce the size of image data by contractive mapping of original image. The mapping is affine transformation to find the block(called range block) which is the most similar to the original image. Fractal is very efficient way to reduce the data size. However, it has high distortion rate and requires long encoding time. In this paper, we present the simulation result of fractal and VQ hybrid systems which use different clustering algorithms, normal and improved competitive learning SOFM. The simulation results showed that the VQ hybrid fractal using improved competitive learning SOFM has better distortion rate than the VQ hybrid fractal using normal SOFM.

  • This paper applied Elite-based Simplex-GA hybrid approach combined with Muptipop-GA (ESGA) to determining the location, size and number of capacitors to improve voltage profile and minimize power losses in unbalanced distribution systems. One of the main obstacles in applying GA to complex problems has been the high computational cost due to their slow convergence rate. To alleviate this difficulty, ESGA approach was developed that combines Elite-based Simplex-GA hybrid approach with Muptipop-GA. The objective function formulated consists of two terms: cost for energy losses and cost related to capacitor purchase and capacitor installation. The cost function associated with capacitor placement is considered as a step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Its efficiency was proved through the application in IEEE 13 bus and 34 bus test systems and was compared with several methods using GA.

A WLAN/GPS Hybrid Localization Algorithm for Indoor/Outdoor Transit Area (실내외 천이영역 적용을 위한 WLAN/GPS 복합 측위 알고리즘)

  • For improved localization around the indoor/outdoor transit area of buildings, this paper proposes an efficient algorithm combining the measurements from the WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and the GPS (Global Positioning System) for. The proposed hybrid localization algorithm considers both multipath errors and NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) errors, which occur in most wireless localization systems. To detect and isolate multipath errors occurring in GPS measurements, the propose algorithm utilizes conventional multipath test statistics. To convert WLAN signal strength measurements to range estimates in the presence of NLOS errors, a simple and effective calibration algorithm is designed to compute conversion parameters. By selecting and combining the reliable GPS and WLAN measurements, the proposed hybrid localization algorithm provides more accurate location estimates. An experiment result demonstrates the performance of the proposed algorithm.
