  • Controlled auto ignition (CAI) combustion, also known as HCCI (homogeneous charge compression ignition), offers the potential to simultaneously improve fuel economy and reduce emission. CAI-combustion was achieved in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine, with a cylinder running in a CAI mode. Standard components were used the camshafts which had been modified in order to restrict the gas exchange process. The effects of air-fuel ratio, residual EGR rate and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable CAI combustion region were investigated. The effect that injection timings on factor such as start of combustion, combustion duration and heat release rate was also investigated. From results early injection caused the mixture to ignite earlier and burn more quickly due to the exothermic reaction during the recompression and gave rise to good mixing of the fuel-air.

  • In this study, a pyrene-core single molecule with amino (-NH2) functional group material was hybridized using ZnO quantum dots (QDs). The suppressed performance of the 1-aminopyrene (1-PyNH2) single molecule as an emissive layer (EML) in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) was exploited by adopting the ZnO@1-PyNH2 core-shell structure. Unlike pristine 1-PyNH2 molecules, the ZnO@1-PyNH2 hybrid QDs formed energy proximity levels that enabled charge transfer. This result can be interpreted as an improvement in surface roughness. The uniform and homogeneous EML alleviates dark-spot degradation. Moreover, LEDs with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TFB/EML/TPBi/LiF/Al configuration were fabricated to evaluate the performance of two emissive materials, where pristine-1-PyNH2 molecules and ZnO@1-PyNH2 QDs were used as the EML materials to verify the improvement in electrical characteristics. The ZnO@1-PyNH2 LEDs exhibited blue luminescence at 443 nm (FWHM = 49 nm), with a turn-on voltage of 4 V, maximum luminance of 1500 cd/m2, maximum luminous efficiency of 0.66 cd/A, and power efficiency of 0.41 lm/W.

  • A Fe-Ni Bainitic steel as a weathering steel application was developed by combining its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance in maritime environments. Nickel concentration (0.4-3 wt%) and inverted austempering multi-step (IAM) process were primary determinants of the microstructure of the Fe-Ni Bainitic steel. The initial austempering steel was performed at 300 ℃ for 600 seconds to obtain a partly bainitic transformation. The steel was heated again for 1800 s at 450 ℃. The microstructure was comprised of ferrite, a blocky martensite/austenite island, and a homogeneous lath-shape bainite structure with widths ranging from 4.67 to 6.89 ㎛. The maximum strength, 1480 MPa, was obtained with 3 wt% nickel. In this study, corrosion behavior was investigated utilizing potentiodynamic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. A higher nickel content in Fe-Ni Bainitic steel refined the grain size, improved the bainite fraction, lowered the corrosion rate to 0.0257 mmpy, and increased the charge transfer of film resistance to 1369 Ω.

  • Ion-exchange membrane (IEM) has fixed charge groups and is a separation membrane which is capable of selectively transporting ions of the opposite polarity. Recently, the interest in IEMs has been increasing as the importance of the desalination and energy conversion processes using them as the key components has increased. Since the IEMs determine the efficiency of the above process, it is necessary to improve the separation performance and durability of them and also to lower the expensive membrane price, which is a hindrance to the widening application of the IEM process. Therefore, it is urgent to develop high-performance and low-cost IEMs. Among various types of IEMs, pore-filled membranes prepared by filling ionomer into a porous polymer substrate are intermediate forms of homogeneous membranes and heterogeneous membranes. The production cost would be cheap like the case of heterogeneous membranes because of the use of inexpensive supports and the reduction of the amount used of raw materials, and at the same time, they exhibit excellent electrochemical characteristics close to homogeneous membranes. In this review, major research and development trends of pore-filled IEMs, which are attracting attention as high-performance and low-cost IEMs, have been summarized and reported according to the application fields.

  • The autoignition characteristics of biosyngas were investigated both numerically and experimentally. The effects of the temperature, gas composition, and pressure on the autoignition characteristics were evaluated. A shock tube was employed to measure the ignition delay times of the biosyngas. The numerical study on the ignition delay time was performed using the CHEMKIN-PRO software to validate the experimental results and predict the chemical species in the combustion process. The results revealed that the ignition delay time increased with an increase in the hydrogen fraction in the mixture. Under most temperature conditions, the ignition delay time decreased with a pressure increase. However, the ignition delay time increased with an increase in pressure under relatively low temperature conditions.

  • This work investigates the potential of in-cylinder thermal stratification and fuel stratification for extending the operating ranges in HCCI engines, and the coupling between thermal stratification and fuel stratification. Computational results areemployed. The computations were conducted using both a custom multi-zone version and the standard single-zone version of the Senkin application of the CHEMKINII kinetics rate code, and kinetic mechanism for di-methyl ether (DME). This study shows that the potential of thermal stratification and fuels stratification for extending the high-load operating limit by a staged combustion event with reduced pressure-rise rates is very large. It was also found that those stratification offers good potential to extend low-load limit by a same mechanism in high-load. However, a combination of thermal stratification and fuel stratification is not more effective than above stratification techniques for extending the operating ranges showing similar results of fuel stratification. Sufficient condition for combustion (enough temperature for) turns misfire in low-load limit to operate engines, which also leads to knock in high-load limit abruptly due to the too high temperature with high. DME shows a potential for maximizing effect of stratification to lower pressure-rise rate due to the characteristics of low-temperature heat release.

  • Speaking generally, agent-based technology is a kind of technology to handle the flood of information resulted from the popularization of the internet. Agent system is a multi-distributed system which consists of both homogeneous and heterogeneous agents. Generally there is a coordination agent in between which is in charge of control and m message flow among the application agents. The purpose of this thesis is to propose a coordination method among agents, some of which provide informations and some of which request them. In multi-agent system, the Information Providing Agent(IPA) registers its capabilities to Coordination Agent(CA) and the Information Requesting Agent(lRA) requests CA what it needs. To coordinate them with satisfactory results the coordination agent ought to have an ability to return a relatively proper data to the requester which is supposed to be similar even though it is not so exact as was intended. For this, this thesis proposes a scheme for an coordination agent to find an IPA which provides an information which correlates most closely with that of IRA.

  • In this study, $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode material and LiPON solid electrolyte were manufactured into thin films, and the possibility of their use in thin-film batteries was researched. When the RTP treatment was performed after $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin-film deposition on the SUS substrate by a sputtering method, a ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin film was successfully manufactured. The LiPON solid electrolyte was prepared by a reactive sputtering method using a $Li_3PO_4$ target and $N_2$ gas, and a homogeneous and flat thin film was deposited on a $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin film. In order to evaluate the electrochemical properties of the $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin films, coin cells using only a liquid electrolyte were prepared and the charge/discharge test was conducted. As a result, the amorphous thin film of RTP treated at $600^{\circ}C$ showed the highest initial discharge capacity of about $60{\mu}Ah/cm^2$. In cases of coin cells using liquid/solid double electrolyte, the discharge capacities of the $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin films were comparable to those without solid LiPON electrolyte. It was revealed that $Li_2MnSiO_4$ cathode thin films with LiPON solid electrolyte were applicable in thin film batteries.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate relative bioavailability of the coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in emulsion and three liposome formulations after a single oral administration (60 mg/kg) into rats. Emulsion formulation of CoQ10 was prepared by conventional method using Phospholipon 85G as an emulsifier, and three liposome formulations (neutral, anionic, and cationic) of CoQ10 were prepared by traditional lipid film hydration technique using Phospholipon 85G, cholesterol, and charge carrier lipids (1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane chloride salt for cationic liposome and 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate monosodium salt for anionic liposome). Mean particle size of all CoQ10-loaded liposome was less than a micron, and size distribution of the liposome population was homogeneous. Bioavailability of CoQ10 in emulsion was 1.5 to 2.6-fold greater than liposome formulations in terms of $AUC_{0-24\;h}$. $T_{max}$ was 3 h when administered as emulsion while it was greater than 6 h in liposome formulations. Notably, it was approximately 8 h in cationic liposome. $C_{max}$ was highest in emulsion and was significantly decreased when administered as liposome. Charged liposome showed even lower $C_{max}$ than neutral liposome, especially in cationic liposome. In conclusion, therefore, it is suggested that clinicians and patients consider bioavailability issue a primary concern when choosing a CoQ10 product, especially when very high plasma level is required such as in the treatment of heart failure and Parkinson's disease.

  • The HCCI engine is a prospective internal combustion engine with which high diesel-like efficiencies and very low NOx and particulate emissions can be achieved. However, several technical issues must be resolved before HCCI engines can be used for different applications. One of the issues concerning the HCCI engine is that the operating range of this engine is limited by the rapid pressure rise caused by the release of excessive heat. This heat release is because of the self-accelerated combustion reaction occurring in the engine and the resulting engine knock in the high-load region. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of thermal stratification and fuel stratification in reducing the pressure rise rate in an HCCI engine. The concentrations of NOx and CO in the exhaust gas are also evaluated to confirm combustion completeness and NOx emission. The computation is carried out with the help of a multizone code, by using the information on the detailed chemical kinetics and the effect of thermal and fuel stratification on the onset of ignition and rate of combustion. The engine is fueled with dimethyl ether (DME), which allows heat release to occur in two stages, as opposed to methane, which allows for heat release in a single stage.
