Design Direction of Digital Home Identified by the Residents' Housing Needs - Focused on the $85m^2$-sized Housing Units in the Apartment Complex in Busan - (아파트 거주자의 요구를 토대로 본 디지털 홈의 디자인 방향 - 부산지역 국민주택 규모 아파트를 중심으로 -)

  • The digitalization of our society has brought on the digitalization of housing design and human life. Thus, the concerns for developing digital home have increased. However, most of them has focused on digital technology, not human. This study was intended to examine the residents' housing needs for digital home and to suggest the design guidelines of digital home. The subjects were 400 housewives who lived and used internet in $85m^2$-sized housing unit in the new apartment complex, Busan. The important aspects in digital home design, the residents' needs for digital home design, and the needs for digital system in digital home were examined. The subjects were relatively young in their ages. Also, they had relatively high educational level and middle income. On the base of their housing needs for digital home, the design of digital home like as followings would be desirable: 1) the safe and secure design and digital system, 2) the design to improve residents' health and encourge family interaction, 3) human, warm, and soft interior mood, 4) space composition different from the existing one.

  • The development of digital technology makes our life more convenient in our lives and its calmness promotes the qualify of our life. Digital-home-automation system lets indoor-living more free, safe and clear so that it really has come true our life style that considers our mind and healthy to be important. Moreover, LED light source that combines the semiconductor with the digital technology has been tried as a current indoor illumination. Also the Introduction of the light which has a high technology, like LED light, has been required in living space. It shows that it is very important to have an illuminated-plan which is accepted as well-developed technology This study deals with the investigation into the user satisfaction of the existing residential area illumination and the investigation Into the user satisfaction of the LED illumination being supplied for commercial area now. In the result, the fact is investigated that the user wants the introduction of the digital technology in the illumination because of a backward the residental area illumination in the circumstances being digital gradually. The inconvenience of the illumination used now should be minimized and the development of the LED illumination is a way satisfying the desire. The intended illumination project of the residential area should be accomplished according to the lifestyle of a changing residence.

A Case Study on Characteristics of Environmental Design for Nursing Home in Japan - Focused on 5 Facilities in Tokyo - (일본 도심형 노인전문요양시설의 환경디자인 특성에 관한 사례연구 - 대동경소재 5개 시설을 중심으로 -)

  • This research aimed to assess nursing homes for the elderly with geriatric diseases in Japan, and to prepare the knowledge basis to develop nursing home for the elderly with geriatric diseases in Korea. For this, researcher visited 5 facilities in Tokyo from October 3 to October 9 in 2002, collected data by observations, interviews, and visual materials by taking photographs. Visual materials were analyzed according to the environmental assessment matrix consisted of supportiveness, flexibility, efficiency in perception, accessibility, safety, amenity, and social Interaction that were assorted and were given a name by these researchers in the process of this research. Among the characteristics of environmental design of the analysis cases, 992 items picked out from 722 visual materials were used in the analysis. The data were analyzed using the frequency and percentage with SPSS 11 program. The analysis results were the fellowing. The characteristics of recent nursing home design in Japan tended to focus on supportiveness, amenity, and efficiency in perception but to leave much desired in flexibility and safety. In each space, space to support outdoor activities tended to focus on efficiency in perception, space to support living activities tended to focus on amenities, space to support treatment and living tended to focus on supportiveness, space to support administration and operation tended to focus on supportiveness, and space to support movement tended to focus on amenities.

Nursing Home Environment with Positive Distraction for Reduction of Chronic Pain and Healing (만성통증의 경감과 치유를 위한 노인요양시설의 긍정적 관심 전환 환경)

  • Majority of the seniors living in nursing homes suffer from persistent chronic pain, which may cause depression and compromised quality of life if untreated. The environment should support them to lift their focus from current pain and worries to the positive feelings and the delight of life. The purpose of this research is to classify the healing environment elements for positive distraction, and analyze 6 international cases to see the current situation. The elements were categorized as follows, based on literature review from both healing spaces and elderly care field: spatial elements(view, natural elements, artificial elements, exercise space, garden), psychological elements(grooming area, space for privacy, meal/drink area, elements for recollection, religious space), social elements(common living area, activity/hoppy room, family/visitor area, information area, local community program space). Analysis on 6 facilities showed that each elements were reflected to designed relatively well. New inventions from workers who think distraction is important were also introduced. Healing environment for positive distraction requires delicate touch, derived from understanding characteristics and situation of the residing elderly individuals. Technology update is also significant, from audio books to virtual reality devices, since cultural life of nursing home is far behind from what the others enjoy now.

  • The objective of this study is to provide new direction on house design in consideration of the user's life pattern. To this end, pc usage status at home, demand for pc using space, and requirements for pc room interior were analyzed. A survey was taken by parents and the SPSS win.10 was applied for analysis. The survey was conducted for 2 months, starting May 2004 to see the computer usage at home, demand and satisfaction for the computer's room. The results of this study were as follows; The oldest son or daughter in a family was the main user of the computer, posting 71%. 42percent of respondents said they used the pc in their son's and daughter's room while 36% answered living room. It reflects that the whole family want to use the pc in their sharing room, or for their children's convenience. Currently, inconvenience of space-related constraints for using the pc was not that high, which possibly stems from a lack of awareness of inconvenience in using the pc. However, the need for furniture and space for refreshment was suggested. Through this study, it is expected that new housing designs need to be made to reflect these requirements into interior design and building plan for user's convenience.

  • In early Highlighting the client's personality especially, home design demands very careful consideration. It's not an easy task to understand the characteristics of each family member, to take into account their requirements, and strike proper harmony among them. For this Sampung Apartment Project, I decided to create a cozy homelike atmosphere by using overall modern and antique furniture, props, and lighting. I tried a different sense of space by choosing wood as the main material, installing furniture that looked antique, and applying painting with touch instead of pictures or wallpaper By the use of the light bulb color overall, lighting was yellow and added more comfort. Local lighting was used in certain places to add more fun along with the props. After choosing white as the main color, point colors were determined according to the client's inclination toward green and blue. The color choice also matched the client's paintings that were in soft green and blue. Each room was planned and color coordinated according to their own characteristics. The children's rooms were planned with such point colors as pink, green, and blue. The master bedroom and the family room were produced around gold and grey color, respectively.

  • Among the mainstream of this society has quickly adopted computer technology as part of their daily life, the ever growing group of elderly people, which will increase from 7% of the population in 2000 to being 14% just 18 years later, has been being exposed to computer using environment more than ever before. According to the survey of Korean government in 2005, the number of the elderly using computer has been rising actually, so web-based survey to identify housing needs of the elderly seems to have lots of possibilities as a useful tool for them. This study aims at comparing web-based survey tool with paper-based one, developed to identify the elderly needs on digital home planning. Experimental method and in-depth interview were employed. The participants were divided into 2 groups, web-based and paper-based survey group. Each group was controlled over by age (average 60 years old), gender and computer skill. As a results, web-based survy tool was revealed as effective to clearer understanding and causing more interests and more available, but less easy to handle than paper-based survey one. Through the in-depth interview, web-based survey tool was identified as a more effective method to figure out the needs of the elderly who are familiar with computer.

  • The cost competitive products buyers through the e-commerce are growing steadily every year due to the development of the Internet. Furniture and home appliances buyers through the e-commerce, on the other hand, aren't growing cause it's impossible to check the size and harmony with interior. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce arrangement system for furniture and home appliances based on augmented reality and motion recognition to provide service which checks the size and harmony with interior by arranging them virtually before purchasing.

  • The inverter fed BLDC(Brushless DC) motor has been increasingly applied to industry and home appliances due to the advance of power electronics and permanent magnet technology, and its high efficiency and good acoustic noise characteristics. The BLDC motor and drives, however, require the rotor position sensors that may cause some problems such as the high cost and space. In this paper, sensorless algorithm for an interior permanent magnet BLDC motor is proposed. The maximum torque per ampere operation with advance angle considering load torque and speed was simulated and verified through the experiment.

  • Recently, the BLDC(Brushless DC) motor has been increasingly applied to home appliance and the study of BLDC motor drive is extensively processing, so it is necessary to investigate the characteristic of the BLDC motor drive. In this paper, we proposed the modeling of interior permanent - magnet BLDC motor drive. The state model of motor and the model of inverter using pulse width modulation are included. The modeling is verified by the experimental results.
