The purpose of this study was to explore the implications of Freire's education theory for secondary school Home Economics Education (HEedu). We conducted a review of books written by Freire and classified the characteristics of his education theory into 9 categories. Based on these categories, we concretely explored the forms in which Freire's education theory could be applied in this area of education through interviews with Home Economics (HE) teachers. We also searched for activities that can be carried out by HEedu agents and the support that can be given by social institutions. The implications of Freire's education theory for HEedu are that education should exhibit love and respect for human beings, be ethically and democratically responsible, enable people to dream as well as hope, support consciousness and praxis by reflection, stimulate epistemological curiosity in learners' lives and experiences, promote subjectivity, autonomy and self-reliance, engage in dialogue to bring about a change in relationships rather than viewing dialogue as a skill, and stimulate political engagement. Freire's education theory therefore has multiple implications for the purpose, mission, and content of education, teaching methods and perspectives, and directions regarding the role of HE teachers. The results are expected to provide practical assistance in developing a persuasive curriculum for HEedu that can help learners restore subjectivity and love for human beings and their society by expanding the horizons of HEedu philosophy from the critical science of Habermas to Freire's education theory.

For this purpose, a survey questionnaire was developed to examine teachers' importance perception of 48 contents in housing unit. A direct survey and an e-mail survey were used to collect data from teachers, and a total number of 233 data were analyzed. Conclusions were summarized as following: 1. Among the 48 contents in housing unit, the average score of teachers' importance perception of the 18 contents on 'interior environment and equipments' was 3.94; the average score of teachers' importance perception of the 15 contents on 'living space plan and use' was 3.78; and the average score of teachers'importance perception of the 15 content on 'housing maintenance and repair' was 3.42. Therefore, the 15 contents on 'housing maintenance and repair' must be revised. 2. Teachers' importance perception of 25 contents, among the 48 contents in housing unit, were significantly differentiated by gender, age, teaching experience, scholastic attainment, subject in charge(technology, home economics, technology and home economics), school type(boys' middle school, girls' middle school, coeducation), and region(city, county). Therefore, the 25 contents, of which importance perception were influenced by teachers' characteristics, must be revised in order to maintain the consistent importance perception. Suggestions were that the team teaching of technology and home economic textbook was more recommendable; that the local situations must be considered in the contents of housing unit and; that the contents of housing unit must be segmented into a minimum unit for the accurate evaluation.

The subjects were 85 4-5 year olds, their mothers, and teachers in Seoul. The inter-correlations among the 5 factors ranged from .31-.71. For the criterion validity, Wallach & Kogan's Creativity Test(Foster, 1971) and children's drawing were used, and for the convergence validity, the scores rated by mothers and the scores rated by leachers were compared. Test-retest reliability was .69 and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ ranged from .76-.90. There found no significant correlations between the RSCCP scale and the 2 criterion tests, and the paired t-test for the total scores of the scale rated by the mothers and the teachers showed no differences.

Whereas children's behavioral characteristics were different by peer status in all of the four domains. Children's social information-processing patterns and behavioral characteristics were different in part by age and sex. This paper aims to explore the role of the home economics subject in helping high school students preparing for an independent aged life and to develop problem based teaching plans toward this goal. Contents related to the elderly in the high school home economics and technology 2007 and 2009 revised curricula were analyzed, and elderly-related contents in other subject areas (the 2009 revised curricula of ethics, public health, and social studies) were also comparatively analyzed to determine the identity of the home economics subject in relation to preparation for independent aging. Based on these analysis, five subjects and teaching plans were presented: the aging society and population changes, the characteristics of the elderly, individual preparation for aging, care of the elderly, and welfare services for the elderly. The ultimate objectives of the lessons were, through critical reasoning, to inquire into the causes of current problems the elderly face so that teenagers can understand aging societies and the elderly and to seek reasonable alternatives for teenagers as they prepare for successful and independent aging, increasing their problem-solving abilities in choosing the best course of action by considering the ripple effect of consequences of each of those alternatives. Suggestions on what direction elderly-related education should take in the future, and what roles teachers should take are also provided.
