  • In this paper, the feedback linearization technique is used with the sliding mode control for nonlinear systems. This combination of the two control techniques is achieved by introducing a novel sliding surface which has the nominal dynamics of the original system controlled by feedback linearization technique. Its design is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial sliding function equal to zero.

  • This paper presents a Current Distribution Control design for Paralleled Positive Output Elementary Super Lift Luo Converters (PPOESLLCs) operated in Continuous Conduction Mode using a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC). Manipulating the higher current requirement of the load through the paralleling of POESLLCs, results in a current inequality. This is mainly due to dissimilarities in the power semiconductor switches and circuit components used in POESLLCs, which may lead to converter failures. In order to balance the proper load current sharing and the load voltage regulation of PPOESLLCs, a SMC is developed. The SMC is designed for the inherently variable-structured of POESLLCs by using the state-space average based model. The static and dynamic performance of the developed controller with PPOESLLCs is validated for its robustness to perform over a wide range of operating conditions through both a laboratory prototype and MatLab/Simulink models, which are compared with a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller. Theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the developed SMC along with the complete design procedure.

The combination of $H_{\infty}$ with SMC is achieved by proposing a novel sliding surface which has a virtual state. • As high precision industries such as semiconductor, TFT-LCD manufacturing and MEMS continue to grow, the demand for higher DOF precision stages has been increasing. In general, the stages should accommodate a prescribed range of payloads in order to position various precision manufacturing/inspection instruments. Therefore a nonlinear controller using sliding motion is developed, which bears mass perturbation and makes the upper plate of the stage move in 6 DOF. For the application of the nonlinear control, an observer is also developed based on expected noise covariance. To eliminate the steady state error of step response, integral terms are inserted into the state-space model. The linear term of the controller is designed using optimization scheme in which parameters can be weighted according to their physical significance, whereas the nonlinear term of the controller is designed using trial and error method. A comprehensive simulation study proves that the designed controller is robust against mass perturbation and completely eliminates steady state errors.

  • In this paper, an electric vehicle drives with efficient control and low cost hardware using four quadrant DC converter with Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motor fed by DC boost converter is presented. The main idea of this work is to improve the energy efficiency of the conversion chain of an electric vehicle by inserting a boost converter between the battery and the four quadrant-DC motor chopper assembly. Consequently, this method makes it possible to maintain the amplification gain of the 4 quadrant chopper constant regardless of the battery voltage drop and even in the presence of a fault in the battery. One of the most important control problems is control under heavy uncertainty conditions. The higher order sliding mode control technique is introduced for the adjustment of DC bus voltage and mechanical motor speed. To implement the proposed approach in the automotive field, experimental tests were carried out. The performances obtained show the usefulness of this system for a better energy management of an electric vehicle and an ideal control under different operating conditions and constraints, mostly at nominal operation, in the presence of a load torque, when reversing the direction of rotation of the motor speed and even in case of battery chamber failure. The whole system has been tested experimentally and its performance has been analyzed.
