Effects of Haenginbanhatang Extract on the Contraction of Isolated Guinea Pig Trachea Smooth Muscle. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Haenginbanhatang extract on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle and elucidate its mechanism. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The contratile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the guinea pig to histamine was significantly inhibited by Haenginbanhatang. 2. Effects of Haenginbanhatang extract on the contractile response of the isolated guinea pig smooth muscle pretreated propranolol was not significant. 3. The contractile response of isolated guinea pig smooth muscle pretreated methylene blue was significantly inhibited by Haenginbanhatang, 4. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the guinea pig to prostaglandin F2a was significantly inhibited by Haenginbanhatang. 5. Effect of prostaglandin F2a on the contractile response of guinea pig smooth muscle pretreated Haenginbanhatang was not significant. According to the above results, it was suggested that the contractile response mechanism of the guinea pig smooth muscle to Haenginbanhatang was related to cyclic GMP.

The study was carried out to investigate the effect of Kwandongwhasan extract and its constituent herbs onthe contractile force of isolated guineapig trachealis muscle and to elucidate its mechanism. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine. 2. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by acetylcholine. 3. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by 5-hydrooxytryptamine. 4. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by prostaglandin $F2\;{\alpha}$ 5. Herba Ephedrae (麻黃), Semen Armeniacae(杏仁), Cortex Mormi(紫白皮), and Flos Farfarae (款冬花), extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine, acetylcholine, 5-hydroxytryptamine and prostaglandin $F2\;{\alpha}$. 6. Radix Glycyrrhdzae(甘草) extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by prostaglandia $F2\;{\alpha}$. 7. Rhizoma Anemarrhenae(知母) extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine. 8. Bulbus Fritillariae(貝母) and Tuber Pinelliae(半夏) extract did not inhibit the significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle.

In order to study the effects of Yunpaejaesueum known clinically for their effects of treatment for cough and asthma, the study was carried out to investigate the effect of Yunpaejaesueum extract on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle and elucidate its mechanism. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig was suspended in the organ bath with oxygenated Kreb's Henseleite bicarbonate buffer solution at $37^{\circ}C$, and the developed tension by the drug was recorded with isometric transducer(Nacro F-60). The resting tension was approximately 0.5g. 2. The isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig was remakably relaxed by the administration of Yunpaejaesueum. 3. Yunpaejaesueum is significantly inhibited the contractile response of histimine 10-4 M in isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle. 4. Yunpaejaesueum is significantly inhibited the contractile response of acetylcholine 10-4 M in isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle. 5. Yunpaejaesueum is significantly inhibited the contractile response of 5-hydroxytryptamine 10-4 M in isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle. 6. Yunpaejaesueum is significantly inhibited the contractile response of prostaglandin F2a 10-7 M in isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle.

The contractile response of the ileum smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Yeemosan extract on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle and elucidate its mechanism. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig to acetylcholine was significantly inhibited by Yeemosan. 2. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig pretreated propranolol was significantly inhibited by Yeemosan. 3. Effects of Yeemosan extract on the contractile response of the isolated guineapig trachea smooth muscle pretreated methylene blue was not significant. 4. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig to prostaglandin $F2{\alpha)$ was significantly inhibited by Yeemosan. 5. Effects of prostaglandin $F2{\alpha)$ on the contractile response of the isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle pretreated Yeemosan was not significant. According to the above results. it was suggested that the contractile response mechanism of the guinea pig trachea smooth muscle to Yeemosan was related to sympathetic nervous system receptor and other mechanism should have further study.

The results were obtained as follows: 1. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig by 5-hydorxytryptamine 10-4 M was significantly inhibited by Shihngigiltang extract. 6. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig by prostaglandin $F2\;{\alpha}$ 10-7 M was significantly inhibited by Shihngigiltang extract.

These studies were carried out to investigate the effect of Insameumja water extract on the inhibitory contractile action of acetylcholine in guinea pig. The results of these studies were as follows; 1. Contractile force of acetylcholine from trachea smooth muscle in guinea pig was significantly inhibited by Insameumja. 2. Dose-response of acetylcholine pretreated Insameumja in guinea pig was not significantly changed. 3. Inhibitory contractile action of acetylcholine pretreated propranolol in guinea pig was decreased. 4. Inhibitory contractile action of acetylcholine pretreated indomethacin was significantly changed by Insameumja. 5. Inhibitory contractile action of acetylcholine pretreated methylene blue was not significantly changed by Insameumja.

Mahwangsan is used in the treatment of asthma due to wind and cold(風寒喘). This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Mahwangsan extract and each drug composing it on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig trachea muscle and elucidate its mechanism. The results were obtained as follows; 1. The isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig was signifi-cantly relaxed by the administration of Mahwangsan extract. 2. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to histamine was significantly inhibited by the administration of Mahwangsan extract. 3. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to histamine was significantly inhibited by the administraction of Herba Ephedrae, Cortex Cinnamoni, Flos Farfarae, Fructus Chebulae and Semen Armeniacae extract. 4. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to acetylcholine was significantly inhibited by the administration of Mahwangsan extract. 5. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to acetylcholine was significantly inhibited by the administration of Herba Ephedrae, Flos Farfarae, Fructus Chebulae and Semen Armeniacae extract. 6. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine was significantly inhibited by the administration of Mahwangsan extract. 7. The contractile response of the isolated trachea smooth muscle of guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine was significantly inhibited by the administration of Herba Ephedrae, Flos Farfarae, Fructus Chebulae and Semen Armeniacae extract.

The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig by histamine $10^{-4}M$ was significantly inhibited by Oyootanghabshinchulsan extract. 5. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig by acetylcholine $10^{-4}M$ was significantly inhibited by Oyootanghabshinchulsan extract. 6. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the iso-lated guinea pig by histamine $10^{-4}M$ was significantly inhibited by Oyootang, Shinchulsan and its constituent herbs extract. 7. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the iso-lated guinea pig by acetylcholine $10^{-4}M$ was significantly inhibited by Oyootang, Shinchulsan and its constituent herbs extract.
