  • Recently, the interest and consumption of mini watermelon (Citrullus lunatus Thunb.) are increasing due to nuclear family and one person household. However, there's no research for mini watermelon. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to develop standard cultivation method of mini watermelon. The test cultivar is 'Minimi', which is a small-sized fruit, the rootstock is 'Bullojangsaeng', which is a cucurbit line. Grafted plants were transplanted on April 5, 2017, and harvested in early July. Cultivated types were 3 methods, which are ${\cap}-form$, arched, and runner type, and plant spacing were 40, 60, and 80 cm, respectively. The rowth and yield in ${\cap}-form$ was higher than that of the arched and runner types, and the sugar content was higher a bit. The yield per unit area was about 50% higher than ${\cap}-form$, which can be plant density cultivation than that of the runner type. The number of seeds per fruit of 'Minimi' was similar to that of 'Sambokggul', but seed weight was one third lower than that of 'Sambokggul'. The content of lycopene was 30% higher than that of 'Sambokggul' watermelon, and the main sugar content is similar to or slightly less. In conclusion, the ${\cap}-form$ staking cultivation was superior to the runner type or arched cultivation in terms of fruit setting ratio, yield and quality.

  • To explain the relationship between plant size and seed production, change of sexual organs, relationship between each organs of Convallaria keiskei population, which is located in Gwiyeo-2-ri, Namjong-myeon, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do these were studied from April to August 2002. This study was carried out two ways. One way was to set up the permanent quadrat to explain the change of sexual organs. The other was to carry the collected sample to the laboratory and analysis it to explain the relationship between each organs and energy division of seed production. In the Convallaria keiskei population, the average number of leaf which blooming shoot in the permanent quadrat was 2 and I could find the late leaf size was larger. It was found that, per shoot, the average number of flower was 7.9, fruit was 5.4 and seed was 16.1. Each properties in the sexual organ, underground part size and leaf size, had correlation of 1% or within 5%. The flowering time of the Convallaria keiskei was from April 26 to May 11. Therefore, it can be estimated that the blooming period was $8{\sim}9$ days in just one flower. Among that flowers bloom at the beginning May, 80% fruit at the end of May, and 68% fruit at the end of August. The dry weight of seed had more correlation dry weight of underground part than leaf area.

  • The effect of a greenhouse-covering material on its indoor environment and on the characteristics of cherry tomatoes grown in it was investigated. The conventional polyethylene (PE) film on the greenhouse roof was replaced by a polycarbonate (PC) sheet, while maintaining the main structural frame intact. Color changes and the formation of water droplets on the PC surface were avoided by applying coextrusion and coating layers. When compared to the PE greenhouse, the PC greenhouse enabled increased light transmittance and thus a higher indoor temperature during both summer and winter. The thermal insulating property of the PC sheet effectively reduced the heating loss by approximately 55% during winter. The cherry tomatoes grown in the PC greenhouse exhibited superior fruit characteristics in terms of size, weight, and sugar content. The total amount of cherry tomatoes produced per unit area (1,000 ㎡) in the PC greenhouse was found to be greater by approximately 19% compared to that in the PE greenhouse.

  • Experiments were conducted to select the optimum cultivars which are adaptable to South Korea through estimating the differences in daughter plant production and growth response among seven strawberry cultivars. In the vegetative stage, Nyoho, Akihime and Suhong produced more daughter plants than other cultivars whereas Akaneko and Tochinomine, which developed less runners, showed better condition in runner vigorness. The quality of daughter plants derived from forcing cultivars was uniform in general. Even though there was no significant differences in rooting among cultivars, runners from Akaneko and Tochinomine developed more roots and fresh weight of roots than other cultivars. In the forcing cultivars, Akihime showed the most excellent plant vigorness, yield and highest sugar content of fruits and also was 5 days faster than Nyoho in flowering date. However, the fruit tended to be softened. In the semi-forcing cultivars, Tochinomine was excellent in vigorness, firmness, sugar content of fruits and the average of fruit weight but low in flower numbers per cluster and late in the emergency of second flower cluster. Although Akaneko showed highest in sugar/acid ratio and rich in flavour, lighting treatment was recommended to this cultivar for early harvest because of softness of fruits.

  • The oyster mushroom is a wide cultivar among cultivated edible mushrooms in Korea. But, due to the excess of domestic production, the price has been falling. This study has been conducted to develope new variety oyster mushroom(Pleurotus ostreatus) which have a long term storage to export in foreign market as well as domestic. 'Gonji-7ho', a new variety of oyster mushroom, for the bottle culture, was bred by mating with monokaryons isolated from 'Nongmin-59ho' and 'MT07156'. In the characteristics of fruit body, pilei were round type and gray and stipes were white color and soft. The fruit body growth was vital and uniform. When fruit-body was stored at 4 degrees after packing with plastic vinyl, storage period was extended 7 days longer than 28 day of chunchu-2ho. The yield was 166 g per a bottle(¢65, 900 ml).

  • The light quality obtained from sunlight by removing the spectral region below about 500 nm(blue light region) showed a remarkable effect on the growth of pepper. The physiological characteristics evaluated with the conventionally adopted indices at the vegetative stage revealed that the filtered sunlight improved and accelerated growth in general. In addition, the photosynthetic pigment level comprising chlorophylls, ${\beta}-carotene$ and 5 xanthophyll components as major pigments was increased significantly in the leaves grown under the orange-colored light. The increase of pigment content was prominent for every carotenoid component rather than for chlorophylls. The strong growth activity produced by the elected spectral quality for this work was properly demonstrated by the fruit yield ratio (filtered light/white light) which was found to be 1.35. Also confirmed was that removing the blue light region from solar radiation did not result in worsening of the food quality of matured pepper. The logic behind selection of the above light quality and some data presented was discussed on various photobiological aspects.

  • Bacterial blossom blight is one of the most important diseases of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa). The disease occurs during flowering in the late May and disease outbreaks associated with rainfall during the flowering season have resulted in a severe reduction in kiwifruit production. The causal organism isolated from diseased blossoms of kiwifruits was identified as Pseudomonas syringae pv, syringae based on the physiological and biochemical characteristics and pathogenicity test. Dead fruit stalks, dead pruned twigs, fallen leaves and soils mainly provided R syringae pv. syringae with overwintering places in the kiwifruit orchards, and the inocula also overwintered on buds, trunks, branches, and twigs on the kiwifruit trees. Among the overwintering places, the incula were detected in the highest frequencies from dead fruit stalks. The population density of P. syringae pv. syringae was speculated to be over $1{\times}10^4$cfu/ml for the bacterial infection, and the optimum temperature for the bacterial growth ranged 20 to $25^{\circ}C$. The highest population density of P. syringae pv. syringae on the overwintering places was detected in May and June when the daily average temperature coincided with the optimum temperature for bacterial growth of P. syringae pv. syringae.

  • Pepper plants were flooded at 0, 5, 10 and 15cm at seedling stage under the condition of greenhouse. Treatment of flooding times are 6, 12, 24, 48 and 120 hours. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Plant height, number of leaves, shoot and root fresh weight were not recovered the flooding damages regardless of flooding time and depth. Pepper plant died in flooding depth of 5cm or more for over 48 hours. Plants in fallen leaves were found at more than 5cm depth and 6 hours of floodings. Photosynthesis and respiration rate decreased in the 5cm flooding depth or more for 24 hours. Chlorophyll content and root activity decreased for 12 hours or more at all the flooding depth. Also, diffusion resistance of stomata cell increased as increased flooding time and depth. Diseases occurred remarkably in proportion to the depth and hours of flooding treatment. It was not possible to control the desease by fungicide, also then was no effects of foliar spray of urea. Weight of fruit per plant not decrease by the 12 hours of 0cm and the 6 hours of 5cm flooding but decreased at deeper and longer flooding. Average weight of a fruit increased. The yield could not expected in the depth of 5cm or more for over 48 hours, There was significant positive correlation between all the investigated characteristics of growth and yield. There was, however, negative correlation between number of leaf and diffusion resistance of stomata.
