  • Radiometric calibration is a prerequisite to quantitative remote sensing, and its accuracy has a direct impact on the reliability and accuracy of the quantitative application of remotely sensed data. This paper presents absolute radiometric calibration of the KOMPSAT-3 (KOrea Multi Purpose SATellite-3) and cross calibration using the Landsat-8 OLI (Operational Land Imager). Absolute radiometric calibration was performed using a reflectance-based method. Correlations between TOA (Top Of Atmosphere) radiances and the spectral band responses of the KOMPSAT-3 sensors in Goheung, South Korea, were significant for multispectral bands. A cross calibration method based on the Landsat-8 OLI was also used to assess the two sensors using near simultaneous image pairs over the Libya-4 PICS (Pseudo Invariant Calibration Sites). The spectral profile of the target was obtained from EO-1 (Earth Observing-1) Hyperion data over the Libya-4 PICS to derive the SBAF (Spectral Band Adjustment Factor). The results revealed that the TOA radiance of the KOMPSAT-3 agree with Landsat-8 within 5.14% for all bands after applying the SBAF. The radiometric coefficient presented here appears to be a good standard for maintaining the optical quality of the KOMPSAT-3.

  • Carbon-coated sodium iron pyrophosphate ($Na_2FeP_2O_7$) was prepared by a simple and low-cost pyro-synthesis route for further use as the cathode for Na-ion batteries. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the sample annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ confirmed the pure triclinic phase of $Na_2FeP_2O_7$. Electron microscopy studies revealed a cross linked plate shape morphology of the $Na_2FeP_2O_7$ sample. When tested for application in Na-ion battery, the $Na_2FeP_2O_7$ cathode showed two redox pairs in the potential window of 2.0-4.0 V. The cathode registered initial discharge and charge capacities of 80.85 and 90 mAh/g, respectively, with good cycling performance.

  • A numerical method using FLUENT code was employed to investigate fluid drag and lift forces on a cylinder in a group of circular cylinders, subjected to a uniform cross flow. The cylinders can be arranged in tandem or in a staggered arrangements relative to the free stream flow. A vortex street behind the cylinder pairs or jets between the cylinders forms according to the arrangements. Vibration on a cylinder can occurs due to vortex shedding, fluid-elastic stiffness and wake galloping. The flow is first investigated and then the forces acting on the cylinder are calculated. The lift and drag forces on an elastically mounted cylinder in the wake of an upstream fixed cylinder arise from the mean flow plus velocity and pressure gradients in the wake. The analytical results of two staggered cylinder were compared with the existing experimental ones for validation of the present method. The analytical results of the forces were in good agreement with the experimental ones. The present method can be used for the analysis of the fluid induced vibration where the group of circular cylinders are subjected to a cross flow.

  • It is said that the goal of the design of good acoustical environment is at first the reduction of undesirable sounds. and in addition the introduction of desirable sounds by which our minds are soothed. The task of creating the desirable sounds leads to the realization of a comfortable acoustic environment and the design of soundscape. It may be an important starting point of soundscape design to select suitable sounds for the target spaces. because each space has a different surrounding condition and requires a special ambient sound. This paper aims to survey preference of the environmental sounds suitable for the public spaces in urban areas such as parks. bus terminals. 35 kinds of natural sounds are. rated by 26 pairs of adjectives. The results of psycho-acoustic experiments are as follows. 1. The proper adjectives for expressing the environmental sounds are classified into 6 groups of comfort, pleasure, fullness. variety, distinctness. and naturalness. 2. Bird singing. murmuring of a stream, artificial sounds. singing of insects and animals are the affirmative rank of preference. 3. Green musics consisted of music and natural sounds are preferred to the pure natural sounds. 4. Sound level relative to background noise causes various preferences to natural sounds in public spaces.

  • In a goal-oriented dialogue, speakers' intentions can be represented by domain actions that consist of pairs of a speech act and a concept sequence. Therefore, if we plan to implement an intelligent dialogue system, it is very important to correctly infer the domain actions from surface utterances. In this paper, we propose a statistical model to determine speech acts and concept sequences using conditional random fields at the same time. To avoid biased learning problems, the proposed model uses low-level linguistic features such as lexicals and parts-of-speech. Then, it filters out uninformative features using the chi-square statistic. In the experiments in a schedule arrangement domain, the proposed system showed good performances (the precision of 93.0% on speech act classification and the precision of 90.2% on concept sequence classification).

  • A new method using a transfer function was proposed in the previous paper for analyzing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. The calculated motion errors by the new method, named as the transfer (unction method (TFM), were compared with the results by the conventional multi pad method, and the validity of the proposed method was theoretically verified. In this paper, the relationship between rail form error and motion errors of a hydrostatic table is examined theoretically in order to comprehand so-called 'the averaging effect of an oil film', and the characteristics of the motion errors in a hydrostatic table is tested. The tested hydrostatic table has three single-side pads in the vertical direction and three pairs of double-sides pads in the horizontal direction. The motion errors are tested for three rails which have different form errors. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical results calculated by the TFM, and both results show good agreement. From the results, it is shown that the TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

  • The performances of three same type of vibrating potato diggers were estimated by observing the potato separation and material flow on the bottom plate. Four-bar mechanism were adopted for three diggers and pairs of eccentric cams on both sides of driving shaft were used as driving link of the diggers. Each machine was tested with different amplitudes , frequencies, and travels speeds. Blade performance were observed in three categories : Impossible forward travel , acceptable operation, and unsatisfactory potato digging , but good material flow. Three parameters were used to set marginal values that enable the machines operate for potato digging, and the parameters were compared to select best one. Three parameters are λ, $\rho$, and K.λ is the ratio of vibrating speed to travel speed, $\rho$ is the ratio of blade acceleration to travel speed, and K is the ratio of blade acceleration to gravitational acceleration. K value of 2 or more is suggested to be used as design and evalu tion criterion of the vibrating digger.

  • A composite pile consisted of a concrete lower part with a steel tubular pile at upper part was installed by pre-drilling method. Seven pairs of strain gauges and inclinometer were attached on the pile in order to measure stresses and displacement along the pile during the lateral loading test. The results of instrumentation were analyzed using various theoretical approaches. The back analysis showed that the measured stresses were smaller than those of the calculated. The maximum stress is measured at the steel upper part and decreased rapidly with depth of the pile. The calculated lateral displacement along the pile provide very good agreement with the measured values if the coefficient of subgrade reaction is selected properly. The design concept of a composite pile is verified by the measured stresses and displacement which is within the tolerable limits of the pile.

  • The present study describes the gene cloning, overexpression and characterization of a novel nitrilase from hyperthermophilic bacterium Thermotoga maritima MSB8. The nitrilase gene consisted of 804 base pairs, encoding a protein of 268 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 30.07 kDa after SDS-PAGE analysis. The optimal temperature and pH of the purified enzyme were 45℃ and 7.5, respectively. The enzyme demonstrated good temperature tolerance, with 40% residual activity after 60 min of heat treatment at 75℃. The kinetic constants Vmax and Km of this nitrilase toward 3-cyanopyridine were 3.12 μmol/min/mg and 7.63 mM, respectively. Furthermore, this novel nitrilase exhibited a broad spectrum toward the hydrolysis of the aliphatic nitriles among the tested substrates, and particularly was specific to aliphatic dinitriles like succinonitrile, which was distinguished from most nitrilases ever reported. The catalytic efficiency kcat/Km was 0.44 /mM/s toward succinonitrile. This distinct characteristic might enable this nitrilase to be a potential candidate for industrial applications for biosynthesis of carboxylic acid.
