We present a weather-insensitive optical free-space communication method supporting optical packet channels. It operates optical fiber amplifiers in gain-saturation regions. When the propagation loss gets too high, it decreases the average packet rate, or the average packet length, or both, to increase the optical power level launched into the free-space. As a demonstration, we transmit $8{\times}10$ Gigabit Ethernet channels over a terrestrial distance of 2.4 km. One gain-saturated free-space optical repeater is used at the halfway point.

Network solutions for protecting against worm attacks that complement partial end system patch deployment is a pressing problem. In the content-based worm filtering, the challenges focus on the detection accuracy and its performance enhancement problem. We present a worm filter architecture using the bloom filter for deployment at high-speed transit points on the Internet, including firewalls and gateways. Content-based packet filtering at multi-gigabit line rates, in general, is a challenging problem due to the signature explosion problem that curtails performance. We show that for worm malware, in particular, buffer overflow worms which comprise a large segment of recent outbreaks, scalable -- accurate, cut-through, and extensible -- filtering performance is feasible. We demonstrate the efficacy of the design by implementing it on an Intel IXP network processor platform with gigabit interfaces. We benchmark the worm filter network appliance on a suite of current/past worms, showing multi-gigabit line speed filtering prowess with minimal footprint on end-to-end network performance.

With the unprecedented growth in internet traffic, demand for larger, more scaleable IP backbone networks is seemingly limitless. This critical requirement is leading the DACOM to investigate architectural alternatives for cost effective, scaleable and flexible IP backbones. In this paper, we present three alternatives for IP backbones using DWDM systems and multi-gigabit IP Routers in the DACOM metro networks, and then compare them by performing an economic analysis.

In this paper, we explain a various fiber to the home technology and give some important standardization status. And, passive optical networks which are WDM-PON, Ethernet PON and/or Gigabit-PON will be mainly deployed in populated subscriber area and multiple dwelling units with taking great advantage of OPEX. And finally we discuss FTTH deployment strategy with low capital cost.

시스템 연결에 사용되는 프로토콜이 고속, 직렬화 됨에 따라 CDR이 내장된 SERDES 칩의 사용이 늘어나고 있다. 이에 Xilinx 나 Altera 사 등 FPGA 업체들이 SERDES를 FPGA 내장시킨 제품을 출시하기 시작하였다. 이러한 SERDES 임베디드 FPGA는 PCB 설계의 단순화와 신호무결성의 큰 이점이 있다. 본 고에서는 Altera 사의 SERDES 임베디드 FPGA, Stratix-GX 디바이스의 기가비트 트랜시버 ALTGXB 블록의 테스트에 관해 살펴본다.

This paper describes an analog multi-phase delay-locked loop (DLL) to solve the harmonic lock problem using current-starved inverter and shunt-capacitor delay cell. The DLL can be used not only as an internal clock buffer of microprocessors and memory It's but also as a multi-phase clock generator for gigabit serial interfaces. The proposed circuit was simulated in a 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology to solve harmonic lock problem and to realize fast lock-on time and low-jitter we verified time interval less than 40 ps as the simulation results.

As the Internet traffic increases, the demand for higher performance routers continues to grow, and it makes switch chips more complex. To make matters worse, these chips also need to handle high-level services. In this paper, we introduce an efficient verification methodology that can support real network traffics to satisfy the verification requirement of real complex situation even at the early design phase of switch chips.

최근에 등장한 Gigabit Ethernet은 LAN 에서 MAN 가지 영역을 확장하고 있다. 그리고, 품질 보장 서비스를 위해 RFC 2205에 정의된 RSVP(Resource Reservation Protocol)는 확장성 등의 내부적인 문제로 사용이 적다. 좀더 나은 품질 보장 서비스를 하기 위한 노력 중 하나로 RFC2814 에서는 SBM(Subnet Bandwidth Manager) 이라 하여 RSVP를 IEEE 802형태의 LAN에서 구현하자고 노력하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 기존의 RSVP 의 문제점 중 하나인 killer problem 을 해결하기 위만 Two-pass RSVP 개념을 SBM에서 적용할 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

This paper propose a simple and efficient scheme to deliver frames between TDM interfaces and IP interfaces in NGTSs. Next Generation Transport Systems (NGTSs) are new conceptual transmission equipments fur next generation network. They consist of TDM interfaces and IP interfaces. NGTSs are suitable fur high-speed transmission links such as SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet. The proposed VLAN scheme for NGTSs is implemented successfully.

3차원 의료 영상 서비스, 고해상도 영상 기반 응용 서비스의 출현에 따라 기가급 속도의 통신망에 대한 수요가 날로 확산되고 있다. Bips급의 컴퓨터 처리 속도가 곧 일반화되는 시점이므로 컴퓨터의 입출력이나 네트워킹을 위하여는 기가비트 통신망이 필연적이다. 또한 현재 초고속 정보통신 응용 서비스 추세를 보면 멀티미디어의 네트워킹화가 필연적인데, 멀티미디어 기술이 국부적인 환경에서는 빠른 발전을 보이고 있으나 네트워크 환경과 결합하는 데는 많은 문제점을 노출하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기가비트 통신망의 기본적인 특성으로부터 분야별로 주요한 기술적인 문제 및 연구 개발 추세를 종합적으로 고찰한다.
