Propofol is a widely used anesthetic. Many studies have shown that propofol has direct effects on blood vessels, but the precise mechanism is not fully understood. Secondary intrapulmonary artery rings from male rats were prepared and mounted in a Multi Myograph System. The following constrictors were used to induce contractions in isolated artery rings: high $K^+$ solution (60 mmol/L); U46619 solution (100 nmol/L); 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT; $3{\mu}mol/L$); or phenylephrine (Phe; $1{\mu}mol/L$). The relaxation effects of propofol were tested on high $K^+$ or U46619 precontracted rings. Propofol also was added to induce relaxation of rings preconstricted by U46619 after pretreatment with the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor $N^G$-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME). The effects of propofol on $Ca^{2+}$ influx via the L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channels were evaluated by examining contraction-dependent responses to $CaCl_2$ in the absence or presence of propofol (10 to $300{\mu}mol/L$). High $K^+$ solution and U46619 induced remarkable contractions of the rings, whereas contractions induced by 5-HT and Phe were weak. Propofol induced dose-dependent relaxation of artery rings precontracted by the high $K^+$ solution. Propofol also induced relaxation of rings precontracted by U46619 in an endothelium-independent way. Propofol at different concentrations significantly inhibited the $Ca^{2+}$-induced contractions of pulmonary rings exposed to high $K^+$-containing and $Ca^{2+}$-free solution in a dose-dependent manner. Propofol relaxed vessels precontracted by the high $K^+$ solution and U46619 in an endothelium-independent way. The mechanism for this effect may involve inhibition of calcium influx through voltage-operated calcium channels (VOCCs) and receptor-operated calcium channels (ROCCs).
In this study, the analogies on saturated solution generated by elementary school teachers were analyzed in their numbers, materials, and types aspects. The results were also compared with those of general and science-gifted elementary students. A test on the self-generating analogies on the target concept was administered to 111 elementary school teachers, 60 fifth graders at four science-gifted education institutes and 91 fifth graders at three elementary schools. The results revealed that the teachers made more analogies than the general and science-gifted students. In general, both the teachers and the students tended to make the analogies using the materials in family, riding, digestive, and school situations. However, there were a little difference between the teachers and the students in the cases of the analogies using other situations including body/physical activity. Similarly to the cases of the students, the teachers made more functional analogies than structural or structural/functional ones and did more concrete ones than abstract ones. However, they made more verbal, artificial, and enriched analogies than the students. They also made more highly systematic analogies than the general students, and did less ones than the science-gifted students. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
In this study, we investigated and compared the types of analogy generation processes and the perceptions of analogy generation on saturated solution of fifth grade scientifically-gifted and general elementary students. After the instruction of self-generating analogies on 'saturated solution' concept for two classes, 12 scientifically-gifted and 8 general elementary students were interviewed to explore their analogy generation processes and the perceptions of the abilities required in the processes, the conditions of good analogies, and the advantages/disadvantages of analogy generation. The results revealed that their analogy generation processes were classified into three types. The scientifically-gifted students generated the analogies in more systematic and efficient ways and had better understanding of the important parts in the processes than the general elementary students. They also suggested more concrete and various ideas about the conditions of good analogies. Many scientifically-gifted and general elementary students thought that analogy generation would have positive influences on the developments of the cognitive aspects such as various higher-level thinking abilities and understanding of science concepts as well as the affective aspects such as science learning motivation and interest. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

This study presents an energy analysis for large-strain cavity expansion problem based on the general strength criterion and energy theory. This study focuses on the energy dissipation problem during the cavity expansion process, dividing the soil mass around the cavity into an elastic region and a plastic region. Assuming compliance with the small deformation theory in the elastic region and the large deformation theory in the plastic region, combined with the general strength criterion of soil mass and energy theory, the energy dissipation solution for cavity expansion problem is derived. Firstly, from an energy perspective, the process of cavity expansion in soil mass is described as an energy conversion process. The energy dissipation mechanism is introduced into the traditional analysis of cavity expansion, and a general analytical solution for cavity expansion related to energy is derived. Subsequently, based on this general analytical solution of cavity expansion, the influence of different strength criterion, large-strain, expansion radius, cavity shape and characteristics of soil mass on the stress distribution, displacement field and energy evolution around the cavity is studied. Finally, the effectiveness and reliability of theoretical solution is verified by comparing the results of typical pressure-expansion curves with existing literature algorithms. The results indicate that different strength criterion have a relatively small impact on the displacement and strain field around the cavity, but a significant impact on the stress distribution and energy evolution around the cavity.
The Shortest Path Problem in Time-dependent Networks, where the travel time of each link depends on the time interval, is not realistic since the model and its solution violate the Non-passing Property (NPP:often referred to as FIFO) of real phenomena. Furthermore, solving the problem needs much more computational and memory complexity than the general shortest path problem. A new model for Time-dependent Networks where the flow speeds of each link depend on time interval, is suggested. The model is more realistic since its solution maintains the NPP. Solving the problem needs just a little more computational complexity, and the same memory complexity, as the general shortest path problem. A solution algorithm modified from Dijkstra's label setting algorithm is presented. We extend this model to the problem of Minimum Expected Time Path in Time-dependent Stochastic Networks where flow speeds of each link change statistically on each time interval. A solution method using the Kth-shortest Path algorithm is presented.
A matrix pair $(X_0,\;Y_0)$ is called a Hermitian nonnegative-definite(respectively, positive-definite) solution to the matrix equation $GXG^*\;+\;HYH^*\;=\;C$ with unknown X and Y if $X_{0}$ and $Y_{0}$ are Hermitian nonnegative-definite (respectively, positive-definite) and satisfy $GX_0G^*\;+\;HY_0H^*\;=\;C$. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of at least a Hermitian nonnegative-definite (respectively, positive-definite) solution to the matrix equation are investigated. A representation of the general Hermitian nonnegative-definite (respectively positive-definite) solution to the equation is also obtained when it has such solutions. Two presented examples show these advantages of the proposed approach.

This paper deals with the pure bending of incompressible elastic perfectly plastic two-layer sheets under plane strain conditions at large strains. Each layer is classified by its yield stress, shear modulus of elasticity and its initial percentage thickness in relation to the whole sheet. The solution found is semi-analytic. In particular, a numerical technique is only necessary to solve transcendental equations. The general solution is cumbersome because different analytic expressions for the radial and circumferential stresses should be adopted in different regions of the whole sheet. In particular, there are several alternative ways a plastic region (or plastic regions) can propagate. However, for any given set of material and process parameters the solution to the problem consists of a sequence of rather simple analytic expressions connected by transcendental equations. The general solution is illustrated by a simple example.
A consistent general order nodal method for solving the three-dimensional neutron diffusion equation in (x-y-z) geometry has been derived by using a weighted integral technique and expanding the spatial variable by the Legendre orthogonal series function. The equation set derived can be converted into any order nodal schemes. It forms a compact system for general order of nodal moments. The method utilizes fewer unknown variables in the schemes for iterative-convergence solution than other nodal methods listed in the literatures, and because the method utilizes the analytic solutions of the transverse-integrated one dimensional equations and a consistent approximation for a given spatial variable through all the solution procedures, which renders the use of an approximation for the transverse leakages no longer necessary, we can expect extremely accurate solutions and the solution would converge exactly when the mesh width is decreased or the approximation order is increased.
In this paper, we propose a sufficient condition for the existence of solutions to general variational inequality problems (GVI(K, F, $g$)). The condition is also necessary when F is a $g-P^M_*$ function. We also investigate the boundedness of the solution set of (GVI(K, F, $g$)). Furthermore, we show that when F is norm-coercive, the general complementarity problems (GCP(K, F, $g$)) has a nonempty compact solution set. Finally, we establish some existence theorems for (GNCP(K, F, $g$)).
In this paper, a new class of general nonlinear variational inclusions involving H-monotone is introduced and studied in Hilbert spaces. By applying the resolvent operator associated with H-monotone, we prove the existence and uniqueness theorems of solution for the general nonlinear variational inclusion, construct an iterative algorithm for computing approximation solution of the general nonlinear variational inclusion and discuss the convergence of the iterative sequence generated by the algorithm. The results presented in this paper improve and extend many known results in recent literatures.
