  • Equivalent-time sampling can improve measurement or sensing systems because it enables a broader frequency band and higher delay resolution for periodic signals with lower sampling rates than a Nyquist receiver. Meanwhile, a digital down-conversion (DDC) technique can be implemented using a straightforward radio frequency (RF) circuit. It avoids timing skew and in-phase/quadrature gain imbalance instead of requiring a high-speed analog-to-digital converter to sample an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. Therefore, when equivalent-time sampling and DDC techniques are combined, a significant synergy can be achieved. This study provides a parameter design methodology for optimal equivalent-time sampling using DDC.

  • Recently spaceborne SAR systems are increasing image resolution and frequency. As a high quality image resolution, the wider bandwidth is required and a wideband signal generator with RF component is very complicated and RF impairments of device is increased. Therefore, it is very important to improve performance by reducing these errors. In this study, the transmission signal of the wideband signal generator is applied to the phase noise, IQ imbalance, ripple gain, nonlinear model of high power amplifier. And we define possible structures of wideband signal generator and measure the PSLR and ISLR for the performance assesment. Also, we extract error of the amplitude and phase from the waveform and use a quadratic polynomial curve fitting and examine the performance change due to nonlinear device. Finally, we apply a high power amplifier predistortion method for non-linear error compensation. And we confirm that distortion in the output of the amplifier by intermodulation component is decreased by 15 dB.

  • The power-controlled six-port element that can control the local oscillator signal power and receiving RF signal power was designed and implemented in this paper. The direct conversion six-port element configuration was proposed, which provides the constant six-port output power by controlling the six-port input power with various signal strength. The direct conversion six-port element protects the power detector element of six-port receiver from the saturation status and compensates the transmission performance degradation. For implementation of power-controlled six-port element, the power-controlled six-port element including the power controller was analyzed. The implemented power-controlled six-port element shows the power control capability of 36 dB and gain imbalance of about 1.6 dB, phase imbalance of about $4^{\circ}$ in the frequency range of 1.69 GHz. The measured results show the good performance as direct conversion front-end element.

  • In this paper, a new type of linearization technique proposed, in which the predistortor was added to the feedforward linearizer. As the input power level is applied to HPA, the gain and phase characteristics of the amplifier are also varied. By using of the predistorter the amplitude imbalance and phase imbalance is kept constant. Experimental results are present for Korea PCS frequency band. The center frequency of the feedforward amplifier is 1.843.75 MHz with 1.23 MHz bandwidth. The 2-tone intermodulation distortion at 37dBm output power is about -50dBc, and spurious emission are -46dBc at $fc{\pm}\;885KHz\;and\;-52dBc\;at\;fc\;{\pm}1.98MHz$, respectively.

  • In this paper, we analyze the I/Q imbalances effects at the WiBro uplimk when using direct-conversion RF transceiver. If I/Q imbalance exists, the transmit signal is spread over two sbcarriers. As a result, phenomenon of performance reducing is produced. Contrary to OFDM system in which one user uses all subcarrier, symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned other users in OFDMA system. I/Q imbalances elements can't be estimated such a conventional allocation method of tiles in subchannel and compensated. In order to solve the problem, We propose a new method in order that symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned one user. If novel method is applied, we can estimate I/Q imbalances and compensate distortion received signal. As a result, we can obtain a performance similar performance when I/Q imbalances is not existed. Also, if proper detection methods are used, we get the effect of performance improvement, because of diversity gain what is happened due to combining I/Q imbalances with multi path fading channel.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems utilizing direct conversion receiver suffer from frequency selective (FS) and frequency independent (FI) phase and gain imbalances caused by imperfect local oscillator and low pass filter. In this paper, we analyze the impacts of the transmit/receive IQ imbalances on the system and propose the estimation and compensation schemes for those imbalances. The preamble signals coded by Alamouti scheme in the frequency domain could be used in the estimation of relatively large IQ imbalances with FS and FI characteristics and the estimation results are used for the compensation of distortions caused by the FI and FS IQ imbalances. The optimal maximum likelihood (ML) receiver or suboptimal ordered successive interference cancallation (OSIC) receiver utilizing the estimation results show symbol error rate (SER) performance improvement compared to zero-forcing (ZF) technique due to diversity gain inherent in the frequency domain IQ imbalances combined with the frequency selective channels.

  • Background: An imbalance in energy intake and expenditure can cause obesity, which is a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, cancers and hyperlipidemia. Methods and Results: In this study, we evaluated the anti-obesity effects of a water extract from the young leaves of barley sprout (BS) in 3T3-L1 cells and in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice (HF). Lipid accumulation measurement indicates that BS markedly inhibited adipogenesis by reducing lipid droplet production in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of adipogenic transcription factors peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-${\gamma}$ and fatty acid synthetase, CCAAT/enhancer binding protein-${\alpha}$ and fatty acid binding protein 4 in 3T3-L1 cells was significantly inhibited by BS treatment. In an in vivo test, the BS-administered group of HFD-induced mice showed less body weight gain, and lower liver and epididymal white adipose tissue weights. The BS-treated mice showed decreased serum levels of leptin and lipids compared to untreated HFD mice and the levels of adiponectin and the HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol ratio increased. These results indicate that BS inhibits body fat accumulation by reducing the mRNA expression of lipogenesis transcription factors and increasing serum adipokine concentration in in vitro and in vivo tests. Conclusions: BS reduced high fat diet-induced weight gain and had a positive effect on dyslipidemia.

  • During menopausal transition, the imbalance of estrogen causes body weight gain. Although gut microbiome dysbiosis has been reported in postmenopausal obesity, it is not clear whether there is any difference in the microbiome profile between dietary-induced obesity and postmenopausal obesity. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed intestinal samples from ovariectomized mice and compared them with those of mice with high-fat diet-induced obesity. To further evaluate the presence of menopause-specific bacteria-gene interactions, we also analyzed the liver transcriptome. Investigation of the 16S rRNA V3-V4 region amplicon sequence profile revealed that menopausal obesity and dietary obesity resulted in similar gut microbiome structures. However, Bifidobacterium animalis was exclusively observed in the ovariectomized mice, which indicated that menopausal obesity resulted in a different intestinal microbiome than dietary obesity. Additionally, several bacterial taxa (Dorea species, Akkermansia muciniphila, and Desulfovibrio species) were found when the ovariectomized mice were treated with a high-fat diet. A significant correlation between the above-mentioned menopause-specific bacteria and the genes for female hormone metabolism was also observed, suggesting the possibility of bacteria-gene interactions in menopausal obesity. Our findings revealed the characteristics of the intestinal microbiome in menopausal obesity in the mouse model, which is very similar to the dietary obesity microbiome but having its own diagnostic bacteria.

  • We demonstrate a ring type wavelength swept laser incorporating a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter in a laser cavity using 1300 nm semiconductor optical amplifier as a gain medium. The output characteristics of the wavelength swept laser according to the applied scanning frequencies are analyzed in the temporal and spectral domain. The output of the wavelength swept laser decreases dramatically as the scanning frequency increases. And there is a significant peak power imbalance between the forward scan and the backward scan as the scanning frequency increases. Its use in practical applications might be limited.

  • In this paper, a 800 MHz 1 W cartesian feedback linearized power amplifier is designed and fabricated for TETRA handset application. For amplification of TETRA signal with 200 kHz narrow bandwidth, amplifier linearization performance of more than 30 dBc is improved through the cartesian feedback linearizer at the offset Sequency of ${\pm}25$ kHz. It is clear that the linearization performance is affected by imbalance of gain and phase between I/Q signals and also DC offset. The linearization performance can be maximized by the compensation of those influences. Cartesian feedback is suitable for a liearization technique of narrow band signal with QAM and another modulation signals, as well.
