지식경영 전략과 정보기술 역량 간의 적합 관계가 제조기업 혁신에 미치는 영향: 혁신의 공개성 (The Effects of the Fit between Forms of KM Strategy and Types of IT Capability on the Innovations of Manufacturing Firm: Innovation Openness)

  • Purpose This study exploratory investigated the effects of the fit between forms of knowledge management(KM) strategy and types of information technology(IT) capability on the kinds of innovations such as product and process innovations. In this study, the openness of innovations that affects the innovations of a firm is considered. Design/methodology/approach For this empirical study, 104 manufacturing firms' data were finally collected through field survey. For the analysis of the data, cluster analysis and multiple regression analysis were employed. Findings This study demonstrated that when a system-oriented KM strategy is adopted, IT flexibility, which supports the implementation of a system-oriented strategy, is highly employed and utilized. It was also found that under a dynamic KM strategy, both IT integration and IT flexibility are highly employed. For the innovation of a firm, it was found that when a system-oriented strategy is employed and the flexibility of IT is highly adopted, the levels of product innovation are enhanced. Under a dynamic strategy, when the degrees of IT integration and IT flexibility are high, high levels of product and process innovations were empirically found. The impact of innovation openness on the innovations of a firm were partially demonstrated. Finally, the positive impact of the innovations on the improvement of performance in manufacturing firms were demonstrated.

제품 및 서비스 개선을 위한 기술기회 발굴: 특허와 상표 데이터 활용 (Enhancing Existing Products and Services Through the Discovery of Applicable Technology: Use of Patents and Trademarks)

  • As markets and industries continue to evolve rapidly, technology opportunity discovery (TOD) has become critical to a firm's survival. From a common consensus that TOD based on a firm's capabilities is a valuable method for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and reduces the risk of failure in technology development, studies for TOD based on a firm's capabilities have been actively conducted. However, previous studies mainly focused on a firm's technological capabilities and rarely on business capabilities. Since discovered technologies can create market value when utilized in a firm's business, a firm's current business capabilities should be considered in discovering technology opportunities. In this context, this study proposes a TOD method that considers both a firm's business and technological capabilities. To this end, this study uses patent data, which represents the firm's technological capabilities, and trademark data, which represents the firm's business capabilities. The proposed method comprises four steps: 1) Constructing firm technology and business capability matrices using patent classification codes and trademark similarity group codes; 2) Transforming the capability matrices to preference matrices using the fuzzy function; 3) Identifying a target firm's candidate technology opportunities using the collaborative filtering algorithm; 4) Recommending technology opportunities using a portfolio map constructed based on technology similarity and applicability indices. A case study is conducted on a security firm to determine the validity of the proposed method. The proposed method can assist SMEs that face resource constraints in identifying technology opportunities. Further, it can be used by firms that do not possess patents since the proposed method uncovers technology opportunities based on business capabilities.

비대면 서비스 조직에서 디지털 및 인적 지식자원이 상담사의 고객대응역량에 미치는 영향 (Impacts of Digital and Human Knowledge Resources on Customer Response Capability of Customer Service Representatives)

  • 고객이 기업과 상호작용하는 대표적인 비대면 서비스 접점인 콜센터에서 서비스를 제공하는 상담사는 그 기업의 서비스 경쟁력을 결정한다. 즉 기업의 우수한 서비스는 상담사의 서비스 역량에 의해 영향을 받는다. 변화하는 환경에서 기업의 대응 능력을 강조하는 민첩성의 개념을 도입하여, 본 연구는 먼저 상담사의 고객대응역량을 고객대응전문성과 고객대응민첩성의 하위차원으로 개념화하고 고객서비스성과에 미치는 효과를 분석한다. 이와 더불어 기업의 디지털 및 인적 지식자원이 상담사의 고객대응역량에 미치는 효과를 규명한다. 연구가설을 검증하기 위해 보험사 콜센터 2곳의 상담사로부터 수집한 371부의 응답을 가지고 PLS(partial least squares) 분석을 수행했다. 연구결과는 기업의 디지털 및 인적 지식자원이 상담사의 고객대응전문성과 고객대응민첩성을 향상시키고 이를 통해 고객서비스성과를 증가시킬 수 있음을 보여준다. 이 결과는 우수한 고객서비스를 창출하기 위해 먼저 상담사의 서비스 역량을 강화하는 것이 필요함을 제시한다.

수출벤처기업의 동태적 역량이 기술사업화역량, 혁신성과 및 경쟁우위에 미치는 영향 (The Relationship among Dynamic Capability, Technology Commercialization Competence, Innovation Performance, and Competitive Advantage)

  • 본 연구는 변동성이 높은 글로벌경영환경에서 수출벤처기업의 동태적 역량, 기술사업화역량, 혁신성과 및 경쟁우위간의 관계를 밝히는데 연구목적을 두고 있다. 기존 동태적 역량 관점의 논리와 경쟁우위 결정요인에 관한 실증연구를 기초로 동태적 역량, 기술사업화역량, 혁신성과 및 경쟁우위간의 관계를 연구가설로 설정하고, 대덕연구개발특구에 소재하고 있는 수출벤처기업을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 수집한 103개 응답 자료를 기초로 PLS분석방법을 활용하여 가설을 검정하였다. 본 연구에서 동태적 역량은 1차 구성개념인 감지능력, 포착능력, 통합능력 및 조정능력으로 측정된 2차 구성개념이고, 기술사업화역량은 1차 구성개념인 상용화속도, 시장범위 및 기술너비로 측정된 2차 구성개념이다. 실증분석결과에서 수출벤처기업의 동태적 역량은 기술사업화역량, 혁신성과 및 경쟁우위에 유의적인 정의 영향을 미치고, 기술사업화역량은 혁신성과와 경쟁우위에 유의적인 정의 영향을 미치며, 혁신성과는 경쟁우위에 유의적인 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Capability, Service Orientation, and Performance in the Investment Management Industry

  • Prior research has emphasized the significant effect of service orientation on organizational performance. However, little research on service orientation has been conducted in the financial field, including the investment management service industry in which high quality service for clients is required. In this paper, we propose a research model that centers on the concept of service orientation as a type of dynamic capability affecting firm performance. The research variables include job competency, risk management capability, operational capability, service orientation, and service performance. We assume that service orientation partially mediates the effects of risk management capability and operational capability on service performance. To test the model, we collected data from 391 fund managers in 86 teams (37 investment management companies) and analyzed it with partial least squares (PLS) method. Each of the 391 fund managers was asked to answer team level measures, which is effective for team level analysis. We find that job competency positively affects both risk management capability and operational capability, which in turn affect service orientation. Risk management capability and operational capability are assumed to directly affect service performance. However, risk management capability does not influence perceived service performance, whereas operational capability does affect it. This result indicates that risk management capability does not directly affect service performance. However, via service orientation, considering that risk management inconveniences customers and is geared to enhance service orientation, service performance is positively affected. Operational capability does not influence service orientation, whereas it affects perceived service performance. This result reveals that operational capability directly affects firm performance. As expected, service orientation significantly affects the service performance perception of fund managers. This study contributes to the literature by introducing service orientation to the financial industry and measures and tests team-level service performance. Our findings also provide insights to practitioners because to enhance team performance, managers must focus on service orientation in addition to operational capability.

  • Recently, Korea has achieved accumulated total value of orders of six hundred billion dollars in international construction market, and it is facing a new turning point by entering the overseas construction market. However, according to the statistics on the current internal construction market, the accumulated value of orders has been mainly obtained by plant projects in the Middle-East area. To improve international competitiveness of Korean construction industry, it is required to expand and diversify the target areas and construction business sectors. To expand markets, each construction firm should establish the expansion strategy and assess the capability which includes the strength and weakness of their firm. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the capability of the Korean construction firms for overseas expansion. Through the research, Korean construction industry is expected to strengthen competitiveness toward the overseas markets. Furthermore, this research contributes to expanding and diversifying markets for domestic construction firms.

기업가 지향성과 기업 회복탄력성 간 관계: 최고경영진의 네트워크 역량의 조절 효과 (The Relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation and firm Resilience: The Moderating Effect of Top Management's Network Capability)

  • COVID-19 팬데믹과 같은 극단적인 외부 충격에 대하여 기업은 피해를 최소화하고, 난관을 빠르게 극복하여 충격 이전 수준으로 복귀할 수 있는 회복탄력성(Resilience)이 절대적으로 필요하다. 특히 국가 경제성장과 경제위기 차원에서 중소기업의 중요성을 고려할 때, 중소기업이 회복탄력성에 대한 학계와 경영 현장의 관심이 집중되고 있다. 본 연구는 기업의 회복탄력성의 하위 구성개념을 적응역량과 조속한 회복 능력으로 재정리하고, 국내 187개 중소기업을 대상으로 한 설문 조사 결과를 통해 기업가 지향성과 최고경영진의 네트워크 역량이 회복탄력성에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 그 결과, 기업가 지향성은 기업의 회복탄력성을 강화하는 주요 변인으로 작용함이 관찰되었고, 최고경영진의 네트워크 역량은 독립적으로 기업의 회복탄력성을 강화하는 요인이지만, 조절 변수로서 기업가 지향성과 기업 회복탄력성과의 관계를 약화시키는 것이 확인되었다. 극단의 외부 충격 시기에는, 중소기업은 기존의 네트워크를 더욱 강하게 의존하게 되어, 네트워크를 통해 새로운 정보, 지식, 자원을 확보하기보다는 집단적 눈가림 등의 네트워크 역기능이 발생한 것으로 해석된다. 본 연구는 여전히 탐색 수준에 머무르고 있는 중소기업의 회복탄력성에 대한 정의와 세부 요인을 재확인하고, 네트워크의 역기능을 관찰하여 기존의 개념을 확대하는데 기여하였다.

  • Organization's innovation capability is strongly tied to its intellectual capital or knowledge utilization. Employees play a key role in generation of intellectual capital and utilization of knowledge in a firm. Thus, the importance of human resource management (HRM) system for enhancing competency of employees and facilitating knowledge sharing between employees is getting its significance. In this paper, we highlighted the effect of HRM implementation to explain the reason of performance differences among firms, adopting the same ideal HRM system. The successful implementation of HRM system as well as the contents of HRM system was critical to enhance firm performance through HRM system. To investigate the effect of HRM implementation on firm performance, we proposed the three components of HRM implementation (i.e.; TMT philosophy, HR department capability and communication) in perspective of sense making and sense giving theory. Then, we analyzed the moderating effect of HRM implementation on the high commitment HRM - firm performance relationship. Empirical results showed that each component of HRM implementation positively strengthened the relationship between high commitment HRM and firm performance. In addition, the composite index of HRM implementation calculated by average value of three components revealed more significant moderating effect between the two. Furthermore, We discussed the academical and practical implications, and suggested future research directions.

업종별 경영자원과 경영성과 차이에 관한 실증적 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Differences of the Management Resources and Economic Performance among Industries)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 제조기업을 대상으로 경영특성 및 경영성과에 있어서 업종집단별로 유의한 차이가 있는지 여부와 업종집단에 따라 경영성과가 높은 기업군과 낮은 기업군간 경영특성에 있어서 차이가 있는지의 여부를 살펴봄으로서 동일한 업종에 속하는 기업들간의 경영성과의 차이 발생 원인을 규명하고자 하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 업종간 경영특성 규모와 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 경영특성에 있어서 차이가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 업종별로 경영성과가 우수한 기업군과 열등한 기업군간의 경영특성에 있어서도 유의한 차이가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 종합하여 살펴보면 업종에 따라 특정 경영특성에 대한 과다한 혹은 과소한 투자가 경영성과 차이를 유발하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 각 업종의 기업들이 추가적인 투자계획 수립 방향을 제시하여 줄 수 있으며, 경영성과 개선방안을 제시하여 준다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

Antecedents and Consequences of Multinational Service Ventures' Social Responsibility Engagement with Local Allies: A Focus on Propositional Development

  • Despite the importance of multinational service ventures' alliances with local firms for CSR engagement, research is little interested in this issue. Because many multinational service ventures have increasingly allied with local firms for their CSR performance, it is important to explain the role of the alliance between a multinational service venture and a local firm. Our study addressed an issue of multinational service ventures' CSR performance through alliances with local firms. Based prominently on the resource-based theory of the firm, the competence-based theory of the firm, and the resource-adavantage theory of competition, we attempted to predict how a multinational service venture can be successful in CSR engagement based on an alliance with a local firm. Our study posited that local firms' CSR knowledge and CSR orientation positively influence multinational service ventures's CSR capabilities. In addition, we posited the positive moderating roles of alliance competence in the relationships between local firms' CSR resources and multinational service ventures' CSR capability. Moreover, our study posited that multinational service ventures' CSR capability is a source of competitive advantage. Finally, we concluded this manuscript with a discussion of scholarly and managerial implications, limitations of the study, and directions for a further study.
