  • Asbestos is the collective name for a group of naturally occurring minerals in their fibrous form and hydrous silicates of magnesium and a mineral fiber that has been used commonly in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire-retardant. Asbestos has been used for a wide range of manufactured goods, because of its fiber strength and heat resistant properties. Nevertheless harmful of asbestos is quite serious. Exposure to airborne friable asbestos may result in a potential health risk because persons breathing the air may breathe in asbestos fibers. Continued exposure can increase the amount of fibers that remain in the lung. Fibers embedded in lung tissue over time may cause serious lung diseases including asbestosis, lung cancer. In this paper, we carried out as fundamental study for dispose of asbestos cement slate safely and perfectly. Melting Temperature of asbestos need to more than $1,520^{\circ}C$ and specially asbestos cement slate need more energy than that of pure asbestos. We need to decrease melting temperature of asbestos cement slate for economical efficiency. To the purpose, glass and bottom ash were chosen as additives for basicity control. we analyzed about properties of asbestos cements slate, melting characteristics on the additives ratio and temperature. We confirmed about harmlessness of melting slag through analysis of scanning electron microscope(SEM) and x-ray diffractometer(XRD).

  • After the installation of electric cables at block, PE(pre-erection) and hull stages, the coating stains on the electric cable sheath were unavoidably occurred by additional painting process. According to class rules paint or coating applied on the electric cables shall not adversely affect the mechanical, chemical of fire resistant characteristics of the electric cable sheath. However, there has not been quantitatively studied about the effect of coating stains on properties of sheath materials. In this study, we tried to investigate the effect of coating stains on the performance and deterioration of sheath materials by using FTIR, SEM analysis, flame retardant, high potential voltage and tensile test. The results sowed that coating stains, which were occurred during painting work on site could not adversely affect on the performance and deterioration of sheath materials.

  • Geopolymers have many advantages over Portland cement, including energy efficiency, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, high strength at early age and improved thermal resistance. Alkali activated geopolymers made from waste materials such as fly ash or blast furnace slag are particularly advantageous because of their environmental sustainability and low cost. However, their durability and functionality remain subjects for further study. Geopolymer materials can be used in various applications such as fire and heat resistant fiber composites, sealants, concretes, ceramics, etc., depending on the chemical composition of the source materials and the activators. In this study, we investigated the thermal properties and microstructure of fly ash and blast furnace slag based geopolymers in order to develop eco-friendly construction materials with excellent energy efficiency, sound insulation properties and good heat resistance. With different curing times, specimens of various compositions were investigated in terms of compressive strength, X-ray diffraction, thermal property and microstructure. In addition, we investigated changes in X-ray diffraction and microstructure for geopolymers exposed to $1,000^{\circ}C$ heat.

  • In this study, we proposed a wideband frequency tunable metamaterial absorber using a switchable ground plane (SGP). We proposed two fire retardant or flame resistant 4 (FR4) substrate structures for the SGP. An SGP is placed at the middle layer, between the top pattern and the bottom ground plane. The SGP can either be made ground or reactive, by switching the PIN diode ON/OFF. As the frequency is determined by the substrate thickness, the frequency can be switched from the SGP. The proposed absorber is demonstrated by full-wave simulations and measurements. When the SGP is turned on, an absorptivity higher than 90% is achieved from 3.5 GHz to 11 GHz. When the SGP is turned off, an absorptivity higher than 90 % is achieved from 1.7 GHz to 5.2 GHz.

  • Magnesium oxide (MgO) thin films have attracted great scientific and technological interest in recent decades. Because of its distinguished properties such as a wide band gap (7.2 eV), a low dielectric constant (9.8), a low refractive index, an excellent chemical, and thermal stability (melting point=$2900^{\circ}C$), it is widely used as inorganic material in diverse areas such as fire resistant construction materials, optical materials, protective layers in plasma display panels, buffer layers of multilayer electronic/photonic devices, and perovskite ferroelectric thin films. Precursor used in the ALD requires volatility, stability, and low deposition temperature. Precursors using a heteroleptic ligands with different reactivity have advantage of selective reaction of the heteroleptic ligands on substrate during ALD process. In this study, we have synethesized new heteroleptic magnesium precursors ${\beta}$-diketonate and aminoalkoxide which have been widely used for the development of precursor because of the excellent volatility, chelating effects by increasing the coordination number of the metal, and advantages to synthesize a single precursor. A newly-synthesized Mg(II) precursor was adopted for growing MgO thin films using ALD.

  • The composite beam adopted in the study was designed to reduce the floor height as well as to embed the top flange of steel frame into the slab that will enable to avoid applying the fire-resistant coating and to unify the joint method with a steel frame-type. As the steel frame and bottom concrete of the beam is pre-fabricated at the factory it could reduce the overall schedule at the jobsite. Applying such composite beam system to the work is expected to provide the efficient and enhanced performance, given the current tendency of the building construction that tends to be getting higher, larger and dense. The study focused on combining the composite beam with various column systems in a bid to propose the details thereof. A desirable composite girder can be adopted depending on site conditions through the evaluation of various beam and jointing approaches. Among the column systems applied to the study are steel column, SRC column, RC-PC column and RC column. The ways of combining with the columns addressed in the study were categorized into the rigid joint, pin joint, steel frame joint and bracket type joint. Besides, the instruction for site fabrication of beam-column was added in an effort to help set up the site fabrication procedures.
