  • This paper present a capless low drop out regulator (LDO) that improves the load transient response characteristics by using a current regulator. A voltage regulator circuit is placed between the error amplifier and the pass transistor inside the LDO regulator to improve the current characteristics of the voltage line, The proposed fast transient LDO structure was designed by a 0.18 um process with cadence's virtuoso simulation. according to test results, the proposed circuit has a improved transient characteristics compare with conventional LDO. the simulation results show that the transient of rising increases from 1.954 us to 1.378 us and the transient of falling decreases from 19.48 us to 13.33 us compared with conventional capless LDO. this Result has improved response rate of about 29%, 28%.

  • Superconducting detectors are promising as ion detectors for time-of-flight mass spectrometers (TOF MS). They can achieve mass-independent detection efficiency even for macromolecular bombardments, because output signals are produced through the deposited kinetic energy at ion impact instead of secondary electron emission that is the ion detection mechanism of conventional microchannel plate (MCP) detectors or secondary electron multipliers (SEM). Among the superconducting detectors, the superconducting strip ion detectors (SSIDs), which consist of several hundreds of superconducting lines with a width of a few hundreds nm and a thickness of a few tens of nm, have a fast response time of less than 1 ns. Inherently, the response time of SSIDs is determined by kinetic inductance, so that it was difficult to realize a fast SSID with a large detection area. However, we succeeded in realizing the detector size up to $5{\times}5mm^2$ without response time degradation by using a parallel configuration.

  • In this paper, we have improved a novel high tilted optically compensated bend (OCB) (HTOCB) mode by using high tilt angle that was generated by the unique baking condition on the homeotropic alignment layer. The high tilt angle of liquid crystal (LC) was generated by new alignment process that tilt angle changed homeotropic state to homeogenous state using Hot-plate equipment; we obtained about $40\~50^{\circ}$ tilt angle with negative and positive dielectric anisotropy on the homeotropic polyimide (PI), and then LC tilt angle decreased as increasing baking temperature and time. At last, we obtained about $10^{\circ}$ with positive type NLC $({\Delta}n>0)$. Also, the LC tilt angle of positive type NLC $({\Delta}n>0)$ decreased as increasing rubbing strength at the same baking temperature and time. The novel LC operating mode (HTOCB) that used the high tilt angle by the new alignment method was improved. The response time of the novel HTOCB cell was faster than that of conventional OCB cell. We suggest that the developed the novel HTOCB cell using control of tilt angle on the homeotropic surface is a promising technique for the achievement of a fast response time and a high contrast ratio.

  • We investigated response characteristics of twisted nematic (TN) cell with different nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) and cell gap d on a rubbed polyimide (PI) surface. High transmittance and fast response time of the TN cell on the rubbed PI surface were achieved by using high birefringence (Δn) and low cell gap d. The response time of TN cell on the rubbed PI surface was measured 5.1 ms. The transmittance and response time of the TN cell on the rubbed PI surface decreased with decreasing Δnd.

  • In this paper, by using a dual frequency liquid crystal material, we propose a liquid crystal device with a fast response characteristics. The dual frequency liquid crystal material has a positive dielectric anisotropy value at a low frequency. With a high frequency, the dielectric anisotropy becomes negative. Therefore, the relaxation process is governed by not only the elastic deformation, but also the dielectric interaction. The measured decay time and rise time were 0.88 ms and 0.33 ms, respectively.

  • We proposed a method for fast turn-off switching of a vertically-aligned liquid crystal cell by low-temperature curing of the polymer structure. We confirmed that the turn-off times of the fabricated cells were reduced significantly as the curing temperature was lowered to $-20^{\circ}C$. We accounted for the effect of low-temperature curing on the turn-off time by using a mathematical model and by observing images obtained via scanning electron microscopy. We also confirmed that low-temperature curing is more effective in reducing the response time when the device is operated at a low temperature.

  • We have studied a field sequential liquid crystal display (FSLCD) with electrically controlled birefringence (ECB). The ECB mode exhibiting fast response time, high transmittance, low operating voltage and adequate viewing angle. The positive liquid crystal (LC) is better than negative LC on dielectric anisotropy, birefringence and rotational viscosity. Because $K_{11}$ value out of the elastic coefficient of LC is also larger than $K_{22}$ value, decay time of VA-ECB is advantage. However, the transmittance & response time reduced with decreasing the cell gap. This drawback can be overcome by using LC with high ${\Delta}n$ but VA-ECB is occured loss of light efficiency because the $\gamma$ value increased by high ${\Delta}n$ of LC. Consequently, the HA-ECB mode is one of strongest candidate for FSLCD application.

  • We have studied phase transition time and response time of optically compensated splay(OCS) cell as a function of surface pretilt angle. With decreasing surface pretilt angle, phase transition time decreases and response time becomes faster in the OCS cell. Besides, the more surface pretilt angle decreases, the easier OCS structure is obtained.

  • The time-domain response of a two-conductor-structure transmission line excited by an incident electromagnetic pulse is numerically analyzed using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The external electromagnetic pulse is generated by ultilizing a TEM cell. The simulated time-domain response is compared with the time-domain response which is obtained by the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) of the frequency domain measurement data.

  • This paper deals with a problem searching a target transfer function to meet the time-domain specifications for feedback system with given plant transfer function. For the Type I system, we first define three forms of transient response to unit step input, which are named by F, M, S-type. These are charaacterized as follows ; F-type has fast initial response and slow approach to the steady sate after reaching at 90% of the steady state value, S-type has slow initial response but fast approach to the steady state, and M-type is denoted by highly smooth response between F-type and S-type. Three prototypes corresponding to each form are proposed, time. For the order $n{\geq}4$, after determining admissible root structures of target characteristic polynomials empirically and expressing such polynomial coefficients by using special parameters ${\gamma}_i$ and $\epsilon$, the optimal prototypes that minimize the integral of the squared of the modified errors(ISME) have been obtained. Since the step responses of these prototypes have almost same wave forms irrespective to the order, the desired settling time or the rise time can be converted into the equibalent time constant $\tau$ and thus it is easy to obtain a target transfer function. It is shown through a design example that the present prototype is very useful for meeting the time-domain specifications and has been compared with different methods with a viewpoint of pertinence.
