  • Korea has achieved a rapid economic development and with the increase in population and national income and the expansion of social and economic activities, energy consumption has rapidly increased too. Energy consumption per head has constantly increased and currently, power consumption per head is 7.5 times bigger than in 1985. Buildings occupy 25% of total energy consumption and especially, 50% of total energy is consumed for heating and cooling. In this situation, multi-family housing, which has constantly been increased, has an energy saving rate of 1.9%, which is the lowest level and this makes the government's energy policy for sustainable energy system development useless. Besides, energy consumption leads to secondary problems, such as air, water and marine pollution and heat pollution and wastewater/drainage and the increased use of fossil fuel is a fundamental reason for ozone layer destruction and global warming. Therefore, efficient energy consumption plans are required. This study aims to analyze energy performance in each block type of high-rise and diversified multi-family housing that accounts for 60% of all the housing forms, depending on the variations in stories through BIM-based energy simulation. For this study, four representative block types were selected, based on the multi-family floor plan, which is certified for energy performance evaluation and they were applied to the floor plan of a multi-family house that is scheduled to be built. Then BIM modeling was conducted from the fifth story to the 40th story at an intervals of 5 stories and based on the finding, energy characteristics of each block type and energy performance depending on the variations in stories were analyzed. It is considered that this would serve as objective data for block type and block story decision of energy performance-based multi-family housing.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of mother's caregiving satisfaction of a person with mental disorder and factors influencing to it as a positive aspect of caregiving experience. A survey conducted upon 231 mothers who live together with their adult-children with mental disorder through community mental health centers, social rehabilitation facilities and day hospitals. Collected data were analysed by t-test, Oneway-ANOVA, hierachical multiple regression analysis, and so on. The results are as follows: 1) The mean of mother's caregiving satisfaction is 3.06 in 5 point scale. Among the total items of the caregiving satisfaction scale, the means of the items 'finding strength through caregiving' and 'personal growth through caregiving' are higher than any others. 2) In the final regression model, statistically significant factors influencing to the caregiving satisfaction are 'the relationship quality between mothers and the mentally disordered', 'perceived social support from family, significant others, and friends', 'marital status of mothers', and 'family income'. Better relationship quality between mothers and the adult children with mental disorder and higher social support from family, significant others, and friends explained higher caregiving satisfaction of mothers. The level of a widow or divorced mother's caregiving satisfaction is higher than married one. The less family income affected to higher caregiving satisfaction. Variables related to mental disorder of adult-children, such as social function, years of mental disorder and frequency of hospitalization were not statistically significant influencing factors to mother's caregiving satisfaction. Through this research, the implications of social work practice were suggested in many ways.

  • The study was to examine the relationships among health promoting lifestyle, level of anxiety, and perceived health status and to reveal those variables. affecting health promoting lifestyle in Korean immigrants in the United States. The subjects were 425 adults chosen from Korean religious and social organizations located in New York from April 25th through July 5th. 1996. Data analyses were conducted by using Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows : Health promoting lifestyle was significantly different according to age, religion. occupation, and the length of residence in the US. Those insured and those with no chronic conditions revealed a significantly higher score in health promoting lifestyle. Significant differences in the level of anxiety were found according to education, marital status, occupation, family income, and the length of residence. Those with no chronic conditions experienced a significantly lower level of anxiety. In the subscales of the health promoting lifestyle profile, self-actualization and interpersonal relationship revealed higher scores, whereas the scores of stress management, health responsibility, and exercise were lower. Those subjects whose perceived health status was very good, showed the lowest level of anxiety and the highest score on the health promoting lifestyle profile. Negative correlations were observed between the health promoting lifestyle profile and the level of anxiety, and between the perceived health status and the level of anxiety. Health promoting lifestyle was significantly predicted by the level of anxiety(22.0%), age(2.0%), health insurance(1.1%), respectively.

  • This study was conducted in order to identify the relationship between home literacy environment and mother's interactive teaching behaviors, and infant's vocabulary ability. The subjects of this study were 53 infants between the ages of 18 to 24 months and their mothers. In order to measure the home literacy environment, the questionnaire used by Han Chan-Hee (2006), which was partly modified from Shapiro (1979), was selected, and to analyze mothers' teaching behaviors, Barnard's NCAST Teaching Scale(1978) was used. The infant's vocabulary ability was measured by the questionnaire first used by Lim Yong-Soon(2002), which was partly modified from the MCDI used by Fenson et al(1991). In conclusion, this study, most importantly, suggests that the teaching behaviors of the mothers themselves as well as the home literacy environment can both be very important factors affecting infant vocabulary development.
