  • In this paper, we propose the opportunistic non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based cooperative relaying system (CRS) with channel state information (CSI) available at the source, where CSI for the source-to-destination and source-to-relay links is used for opportunistic transmission. Using the CSI, for opportunistic transmission, the source instantaneously chooses between the direct transmission and the cooperative NOMA transmission. We provide an asymptotic expression for the average achievable rate of the opportunistic NOMA-based CRS under Rayleigh fading channels. We verify the asymptotic analysis through Monte Carlo simulations, and compare the average achievable rates of the opportunistic NOMA-based CRS and the conventional one for various channel powers and power allocation coefficients used for NOMA.

  • In this paper we analyze the bit error rate of an in-band DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) system which is based upon orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) and uses M-PSK and M-QAM modulation schemes in the interference environment of an analog FM signal. Results are derived which take into account the influence of the frequency non- selective Rician fading channel, but they are valid for Rayleigh fading channel and AWGN channel as well. Theoretical bit error rates and simulation results are given for system parameters for DAB proposed by ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute).

  • One objective in developing the next generation of wireless communication systems is to increase data rates and reliability. A promising way to achieve this is to combine multiple-input and multiple-output signal processing with a space-time coding scheme, which offers higher coding and diversity gains and improves the spectrum efficiency and reliability of a wireless communication system. It is noted, however, that time delay differences and phase differences among different channels increase symbol interference and degrade system performance. In this letter, we investigate phase differences and their effects on multiple-input and multiple-output systems, and propose a compensation algorithm for the Rayleigh fading model to minimize their effects.

  • In recent years, there are growing concerns about land mobile satellite (LMS) communication systems and mobile stratospheric communication systems (SCS) for the purpose of service upgrade of personal and mobile communications in near future. It is important to possess accurate channel model for prediction of the above system performance. Thus, in this paper, we evaluate the bit error rates of a coded BPSK system based on realistic channel model which can be applied to stratospheric communication systems. The channel data was made by fitting the parameters of probability distribution model to measured data. This approach was proposed by Corraza〔1〕and modified by You〔2〕. And also the effects of channel codings on the system performance are analyzed. As results, we can get the performance curve characteristics on realistic Rician log-normal fading channels with various communication environments.

  • A novel decision-feedback equalization technique for a generalized filter bank based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing data transmission system operating in a frequency selective multipath fading channel is presented in this paper. At the cost of relatively increased computational complexity in comparison to the conventional OFDM systems, the proposed system achieves a better performance in trims 7f bit error rates. The simulation results confirm of superiority and robustness of our method, particularly, in the low SNR channel environments.

  • The mobile service was focused on voice and low rate data service. But recently high data rate service is getting more important, so mobile service operators are providing 1x EV-DO services for high data rate service. Many mobile repeaters were deployed for service coverage, but most of them were deployed when voice and low rate data service were main service. It is necessary to test whether these repeaters are suitable for 1x EV-DO networks for high rate data services. In field test, 1x EV-DO data rates were measured through various repeaters. Some repeaters showed data rates degradation compared with 1x EV-DO AN. The specifications of the repeaters were analyzed. And under the various radio environments such as fading and RSSI, data rates through repeater were tested. These test results will be useful for operation guide of repeaters in high data rate service networks.

  • In this work we consider the problem of downlink resource allocation for proportional fairness of long term received rates of data users and quality of service for real time sessions in an OFDMA-based wireless system. The base station allocates available power and subchannels to individual users based on long term average received rates, quality of service (QoS) based rate constraints and channel conditions. We formulate and solve a joint bandwidth and power optimization problem, solving which provides a performance improvement with respect to existing resource allocation algorithms. We propose schemes for flat as well as frequency selective fading cases. Numerical evaluation results show that the proposed method provides better QoS to voice and video sessions while providing more and fair rates to data users in comparison with existing schemes.

  • Theoretical and experimental determination of the lower limits of detection (LLD) of C-300-A $CaSO_4$:Dy TL dosimeters which are currently used for the personnel monitoring in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) are described with a critical level which is defined as the signal level above which a result has a probability of being due to a fluctuation of the background. The personnel monitoring processors can derived easily the LLD of their system using this method with the background readings of their service interval and the irradiation readings of the known doses. Experimental studies were also conducted for the fading rates of the dosimeters with the temperatures and humidities for 3 months. Finally sensitivity changes in repeat uses were measured for 40 times consecutive uses of the dosimeters. The applications of the experimental results of fading rates and sensitivity changes in real personnel monitoring services are discussed briefly.

  • In this paper, we address the problem of designing multirate codes for a multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) system by restricting the receiver to be a successive decoding and interference cancellation type, when each of the antennas is encoded independently. Furthermore, it is assumed that the receiver knows the instantaneous fading channel states but the transmitter does not have access to them. It is well known that, in theory, minimummean- square error (MMSE) based successive decoding of multiple access (in multi-user communications) and MIMO channels achieves the total channel capacity. However, for this scheme to perform optimally, the optimal rates of each antenna (per-antenna rates) must be known at the transmitter. We show that the optimal per-antenna rates at the transmitter can be estimated using only the statistical characteristics of the MIMO channel in time-varying Rayleigh MIMO channel environments. Based on the results, multirate codes are designed using punctured turbo codes for a horizontal codedMIMOsystem. Simulation results show performances within about one to two dBs of MIMO channel capacity.
