Rotation and Scale Invariant Face Detection Using Log-polar Mapping and Face Features (Log-polar변환과 얼굴특징추출을 이용한 크기 및 회전불변 얼굴인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a face recognition system by using the CCD color image. We first get the face candidate image by using YCbCr color model and adaptive skin color information. And we use it initial curve of active contour model to extract face region. We use the Eye map and mouth map using color information for extracting facial feature from the face image. To obtain center point of Log-polar image, we use extracted facial feature from the face image. In order to obtain feature vectors, we use extracted coefficients from DCT and wavelet transform. To show the validity of the proposed method, we performed a face recognition using neural network with BP learning algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robuster with higher recogntion rate than the conventional method for the rotation and scale variant.

  • In image processing, image segmentation has been studied by various methods in a long time. Image segmentation is the process of partitioning a digital image into multiple objects and face detection is a typical image segmentation field being used in a variety of applications that identifies human faces in digital images. In this paper, we propose a method for extracting the contours of faces included in images. Using the Viola-Jones algorithm, to do this, we detect the approximate locations of faces from images. But, the Viola-Jones algorithm could detected the approximate location of face not the correct position. In order to extract a more accurate face region from image, we use skin color in this paper. In details, face region would be extracted using the analysis of horizontal and vertical histograms on the skin area. Finally, the face contour is extracted using snake algorithm for the extracted face area. In this paperr, a modified snake energy function is proposed for face contour extraction based snake algorithm proposed by Williams et al.[7]

  • This paper deals with face detection and recognition using ellipsodal information and wavelet packet analysis. We proposed two methods. First, Face detection method uses general ellipsodal information of human face contour and we find eye position on wavelet transformed face images A novel method for recognition of views of human faces under roughly constant illumination is presented. Second, The proposed Face recognition scheme is based on the analysis of a wavelet packet decomposition of the face images. Each face image is first located and then, described by a subset of band filtered images containing wavelet coefficients. From these wavelet coefficients, which characterize the face texture, the Euclidian distance can be used in order to classify the face feature vectors into person classes. Experimental results are presented using images from the FERET and the MIT FACES databases. The efficiency of the proposed approach is analyzed according to the FERET evaluation procedure and by comparing our results with those obtained using the well-known Eigenfaces method. The proposed system achieved an rate of 97%(MIT data), 95.8%(FERET databace)

3D Face Recognition using Surface Curvature (표면 곡률을 이용한 3차원 얼굴인식)

  • Three-dimensional face recognition algorithm using curvature information representing characteristics of surface form is suggested. The experiment showed more than 90 percent of recognition for the noses which had definite change value of data, and contained much information about surface curvature. Recognition ratio using a contour taken from the remaining part other than the eyes, noses, mouths which are the main components of faces showed the important role, which could be used as the important index information in the three-dimensional face recognition.

Anthropometry of Surface Area (인체의 표면적 측정)

  • This study present a systematic and more economical anthropometric technique to acquire 3-D anthropometric data by the use of moire interferometry, image processing and computer vision techniques. An experiment was performed to measure in anthopometric variables (head and face), such as head length, head breath, length of ear to top of head, contained face areas, etc. We took fourty-five subjects with wide range of ages(18 years to 33 years old). The face area was calculated based on contour information. The results were then compared with plaster bandage methods. It turned out that the proposed method had 90.85% consistancy.

  • The extraction of a face is a very important part for human interface, biometrics and security. In this paper, we applies DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion) filter and Active Contour Models to extract facial outline. First, DCM filter is made by applying morphology dilation to the combination of facial color image and differential image applied by dilation previously. This filter is used to remove complex background and to detect facial outline. Because Active Contour Models receive a large effect according to initial curves, we calculate rotational degree using geometric ratio of face, eyes and mouth. We use edgeness and intensity as an image energy, in order to extract outline in the area of weak edge. We acquire various head-pose images with both eyes from five persons in inner space with complex background. As an experimental result with total 125 images gathered by 25 per person, it shows that average extraction rate of facial outline is 98.1% and average processing time is 0.2sec.

  • We propose a robust tracking method that combines the merits of ACM(active contour model) and the color-based PF(particle filter), effectively. In the proposed method, PF and ACM track the color distribution and the contour of the target, respectively, and Decision part merges the estimate results from the two trackers to determine the position and scale of the target and to update the target model. By controlling the internal energy of ACM based on the estimate of the position and scale from PF tracker, we can prevent the snake pointers from falsely converging to the background clutters. We appled the proposed method to track the head of person in video and have conducted computer experiments to analyze the errors of the estimated position and scale.

  • In order to extract the contour of interesting object in the image, Kass suggested the Active Contour Model called "Snakes". Snakes is a model which defines the contour of image energy. It also can find the contour of object by minimizing these energy functions. The speed of this model is slow and this model is sensitive of initialization. In order to improve these problems, Gunn extracted the accurate contour by using two initialization. and operated to less sensitive of initialization. This method could extract more accurate contour than the existing method, but it had no effect in the speed and it was sensitive of noise. This paper applied to the Energy Minimization Algorithm about only the pixel within the window applying the window of 8$\times$8 size at each contour point consisting Snakes in order to solve these problems. The method offered in this paper is applied to extract the contour of original image and cup image added to gaussian noise. By tracking the face using this offered method, it is applied to virtual reality and motion tracking. tracking.

  • Image calibration at preprocessing step is very important for face recognition rate improvement, and background noise deletion affects accuracy of face recognition specially. In this paper, a method is proposed to remove background area utilizing elliptical model at preprocessing step for face recognition rate improvement. As human face has the shape of ellipse, a face contour can be easily detected by using the elliptical model in face images.

  • In this paper, we propose 3-factor mobile banking authentication scheme applied to face recognition techniques with existing certificate and OTP. An image of the user's face is captured by smart phone camera and its brightness processing of the contour of a face and background by n of X and Y points. Then, distance between the point of eyes, nose and mouth from captured user's face are compared with stored facial features. When the compared results corresponding to the data that stored in a face recognition DB, the user is authenticated.
