  • This paper describes two contrasting approaches to group decision making involving multiple criteria. A compromise programming method and the analytic hierarchy process are analyzed and compared by using an illustrative example of a computer model selection problem to demonstrate their usefulness as a viable tool for group decision making. This paper further considers some extensions and modifications of there two methods for future study.

  • We introduce in L-smooth topological spaces definitions of paracompactness, almost paracompactness and near paracompactness all of which turn out to be good extensions of their classical topological counterparts. These weak paracompactness are defined for arbitrary L-fuzzy sets and their properties studied.

  • Let A be an abelian variety defined over a number field K. Let L be a biquadratic extension of K with Galois group G and let III (A/K) and III(A/L) denote, respectively, the Tate-Shafarevich groups of A over K and over L. Assuming III(A/L) is finite, we compute [III(A/K)]/[III(A/L)] where [X] is the order of a finite abelian group X.

  • In this paper, time-frequency analysis algorithms, empirical mode decomposition and local mean decomposition, are reviewed and their applications to nonlinear and nonstationary real-world data are discussed. In addition, their generic extensions to complex domain are addressed for the analysis of multichannel data. Simulations of these algorithms on synthetic data illustrate the fundamental structure of the algorithms and how they are designed for the analysis of nonlinear and nonstationary data. Applications of the complex version of the algorithms to the synthetic data also demonstrate the benefit of the algorithms for the accurate frequency decomposition of multichannel data.

  • Mixed effect binomial regression models are widely used for analysis of correlated count data in which the response is the result of a series of one of two possible disjoint outcomes. In this paper, we consider kernel extensions with nonparametric fixed effects and parametric random effects. The estimation is through the penalized likelihood method based on kernel trick, and our focus is on the efficient computation and the effective hyperparameter selection. For the selection of hyperparameters, cross-validation techniques are employed. Examples illustrating usage and features of the proposed method are provided.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a modeling framework for analyzing the effect of price on the PCS (Personal Commununications Service) demand. To achieve this aim, a nonlinear regression model was derived to capture the income effect on the PCS demand and then was combined into an integrated Bass diffusion model. The model was then applied to the emerging PCS market in Korea and the market demands up to the year 2006 were estimated. The results were reviewed and evaluated in various aspects. Finally, the possibilities of model enhancement and model extensions were explored.

  • The aim of this paper is to introduce good definitions of compactness, almost compactness, near compactness, weak compactness, and S-closedness in fuzzy topological spaces in Sostak s sense. These compactness related concepts are defined for arbitrary fuzzy sets and some of their properties studied.

  • This paper investigates generalizations of weakening-free uninorm logics not assuming associativity of intensional conjunction (so called fusion) &, as non-associative fuzzy-relevance logics. First, the strong t-associative monoidal uninorm logic StAMUL and its schematic extensions are introduced as non-associative propositional fuzzy-relevance logics. (Non-associativity here means that, differently from classical logic, & is no longer associative.) Then the algebraic structures corresponding to the systems are defined, and algebraic completeness results for them are provided. Next, predicate calculi corresponding to the propositional systems introduced here are considered.
