The Effects of Sex Education on Middle School Boys' Perception about Obscene Materials and Self Identity (성교육이 남자 중학생의 음란물에 대한 인식 및 자아정체감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of sex education on middle school boys' perception about obscene materials and self identity. Methods: This study was employed, using pretest-posttest of nonequivalent control group design. Data were collected from April 1st to May 14th, 2005. The subjects were recruited from two middle boys' school in Incheon which have similar class accomplishments and financial statues. Sampling method was used 70 students were assigned to experimental group and 74 students to control group. The 45 minutes sex education was given 4 times within 3 weeks to the experimental group. Four weeks later after education has finished, post test was done. The data were analyzed using Chi test, Fisher's exact test and t -test by SPSS. Results: The 1st hypothesis 'The experimental group which received sex education will have a higher score of perception about obscene materials than control group' was supported(t = 3.370, p = .001). The 2nd hypothesis 'The experimental group which received sex education will have a higher score about self identity than the control group' was supported(t = 1.997, p = .048). Conclusion: This study showed that sex education effectively helps middle school boys to have right perception about obscene materials and to promote self identity.

The Effects of injury treatment education on middle school students (중학생의 외상응급처치 교육에 대한 효과)

  • Purpose : This study was aimed to investigate the effect of knowledge and competence of first aid treatment among middle school students after the education on the injury treatment. Methods : The study design was randomized pretest and post-test control group nonsynchronized design. Study subjects were 32 3rd-grade students of Y middle school in P city and 34 3rd-grade students of M middle school in P city in this research. Among two 3rd-grade classes, one classes were randomly assigned to experimental group (32 students) and two were control group (34 students). The intervention for experimental group was providing five-time 45-minute injury treatment education. Results : 1. The First hypothesis : After intervention on the injury treatment education, knowledge of injury treatment in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group(t=-6.480, p<.001). 2. The Second hypothesis : After intervention on the injury treatment education, competence of injury treatment in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group(t=-15.121, p<.001). Conclusion : These findings suggest that the injury treatment education can facilitate knowledge of injury treatment, competence of injury treatment in the middle school student. Therefore, it is considered that the injury treatment education can be utilized as a effective way to implement the 7th nation curriculum.

Effect of Asthma Management Education Program on Stress and Compliance of Patients with Allergic Asthma to House Dust Mite

  • Purpose. This study was designed to examine the effect of asthma management education program applied to allergic asthma patients receiving immunotherapy due to house dust mite on their stress and compliance with health care regimens. Methods. A quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design was used. The subjects of this study were 61 patients who were receiving immunotherapy at intervals of a week after their symptoms were diagnosed as house dust mite allergic asthma at the pulmonary department of a university hospital in Seoul. They were divided into an experimental group of 29 patients who received asthma management education and a control group of 32 patients. The asthma management education pro-gram was composed of group education (once) and reinforcement education (three times) with environmental therapy and immunotherapy to house dust mite. Results. Stress significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to that in the control group. Compliance with health care regimens significantly increased in the experimental group compared to that in the control group. Conclusions. The results suggested that the asthma management education program is effective for the management of stress and the improvement of compliance in patients with allergic asthma to house dust mite.

Influences of Physical Education Classes based on Flipped Learning of Self-directed Learning Abilities and Attitude towards These Classes, for Middle School Students

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of physical education classes based on Flipped Learning on self-directed learning abilities and learning attitude towards these classes, for middle school students. The study selected 90 students as an experimental group (3 classes) and 97 students as a control group (3 classes), among 240 students of the first-year students attending a middle school located at Jeonju City of South Korea, applying convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling methods. For the experimental group, 36 sessions of physical education classes were held for 14 weeks, while the control group received teacher-centered classes. Comparing the results with the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in terms of all sub factors of self-directed learning abilities, namely; desire for learning, learning objective establishment, basic self-management abilities, selection of learning strategy and self-reflection. Moreover, the experimental group manifested significant differences in terms of all sub factors of attitude towards the physical education subjects, namely; positive emotions, negative emotions, health & physical strength, interpersonal relations, physical activities & movements, and active participation & positive performance. From the findings, it can be considered that physical education classes based on Flipped Learning contributed to improving self-directed learning abilities and attitude towards physical education classes. This result can serve as a significant basic material for designing and performing classes in raising the understanding of Flipped Learning and effectively applying Flipped Learning in physical education classes.

The Effects of Clinical Practice in School on Clinical Competence in Nurse (재학시 주문선택 집중실습이 간호사의 임상수행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effects of clinical practice in school on clinical competence in nurse. Method: This study used a quasi experimental post-test design. Data were collected after post-test from April 1, 2005 to May 30, 2005 and from 73 clinical nurses(53 experimental group, 20 control group) who work for 4 General hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 11.5 with $X^2$-test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and stepwise multiple regression. The experimental group participated in treatment : 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education with preceptor in schooling, and the control group participated in treatment : traditional clinical nursing education with preceptor in schooling. Results: Clinical competence were significantly different between experimental and control groups(t=3.221, p=.002). Clinical competence in nurse is effected by satisfaction of clinical practice in schooling in experimental group(F=14.781, p=.000). Conclusion: 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education with preceptor has an effect on clinical competence in nurse. Therefore we should spread and reinforce the 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education program for improving clinical competence of nurse.

Effects of Individualized Diet Education Program on the Dietary Knowledge and Self-Care Compliance among Hemodialysis Patients (개별식이교육 프로그램이 혈액투석 환자의 식이요법에 대한 지식과 식이자가간호 이행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of individualized diet education program on dietary knowledge and self-care compliance among hemodialysis patients. Methods: The design of the study was quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. Fifty patients were assigned to an experimental group and fifty patients were assigned to a control group. Individualized diet education program was applied to the experimental group once every two weeks for twelve weeks. Results: Dietary knowledge increased significantly in the experimental group when compared to the control group. Dietary self-care compliance improved significantly in the post-test of the experimental group, however, the difference was not significant. Conclusion: The individualized dietary education program was effective in improving dietary knowledge. The individualized diet education program needs to be incorporated as an important nursing intervention. Nurses should provide individualized diet education program for hemodialysis patients.

Effect of Foot Care Education for Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Involving the Feet (족부에 침범한 류마티스 관절염 환자에게 적용한 발 관리 교육의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of foot care education on foot pain, foot care compliance, and disability of daily living for people with rheumatoid arthritis involving the feet. Methods: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial. The participants were 49 patients, including 24 in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. The experimental treatment was the provision of foot care education leaflets and 20-minute 1:1 explanations of the content of the leaflet. After 2 weeks, foot care compliance was confirmed by phone call. The experimental effects were assessed by measuring changes in foot pain, foot care compliance, and disability of daily living using a pre test before the foot care education and a post test, 1 month after the foot care education. Results: Foot pain and disability of daily living in the experimental group decreased more than that of the control group. Foot care compliance in experimental group increased more than that of the control group. Conclusion: Results indicate that this foot care education program is an effective intervention to decrease foot pain and the disability of daily living, and increase the foot care compliance in patients with rheumatoid arthritis involving the feet.

The Effects of a Sex Education Program in Middle Aged Men with Diabetes and Their Spouses (중년남성 당뇨병 환자와 배우자의 성교육 프로그램 효과 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a sex education program for middle aged men patients with diabetes and their spouses. Methods: The research design for this study was a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental study. The subjects were 23 diabetic patients and their spouses with half of the subjects exposed to a structured sex education program. Sexual Beliefs and Information Questionnaire, Dyadic Sexual Communication Scale, Sexual Frequency Scale, Derogatis Sexual Function Inventory and International Index of Erectile Function-5 were used for data collection. Results: In the experimental group, sexual knowledge of diabetic patients and sexual communication with their spouses were improved after two weeks following the program. Also, in the experimental group, sexual knowledge, sexual communication, and sexual frequency in both diabetic patients and their spouses were improved after six weeks following the program. In the experimental group, sexual satisfaction of diabetic patients was improved after six weeks following sex education program, however their spouses in the experimental group showed no significant differences than those of the comparison group. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that sex education program for both diabetic patients and their spouses could be utilized in public health centers, hospitals, and clinics.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design the curriculum by considering the experimental design and analysis for enhancing an engineer's creative problem-solving ability. This ability is one of the important objectives in modern engineering education. To achieve this purpose, first, it is suggested that the experimental design and analysis, a specific area of engineering education, is highly relevant to the creative problem-solving ability, one of the basic engineering competencies and of the final goals in engineering education. And also, the curriculum already introduced the experimental design and analysis in departments of mechanical engineering of universities are surveyed and reviewed. 59 papers are also analyzed to know how engineers applicate the knowledge of the experimental design and analysis to their activities. Finally, the module of engineering education curriculum introduced the experimental design and analysis to enhance effectively the engineer's creative problem-solving ability is suggested.

Effects of a video-based enteral nutrition education program using QR codes for intensive care unit nurses: a quasi-experimental study (중환자실 간호사를 위한 QR-Code를 활용한 동영상 기반 경장영양 교육 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of a video-based enteral nutrition education program using QR codes on the perception, knowledge, and performance of enteral nutrition for intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group pre- and post-test design. The participants were nurses working at six ICUs within a single university hospital, with 55 nurses in the experimental group and 55 nurses in the control group. The video-based enteral nutrition education program using QR codes was repeated three times to the experimental group. Results: There was a statistically significant pre-post difference in perceptions between the two groups (Z = -4.04, p < .001) with 2.00 points (± 5.57) for the control group and 7.89 points (± 7.95) for the experimental group, in knowledge (Z = -7.48, p < .001) with 0.02 points (± 1.91) for the control and 4.18 points (± 2.33) for the experimental, and in performance (Z = -2.20, p = .028) with 0.06 points (± 3.96) for the control and 2.00 points (± 5.14) for the experimental. Conclusion: The video-based enteral nutrition education program using QR codes was effective in improving the perceptions, knowledge, and performance of enteral nutrition among ICU nurses. This enteral nutrition education program using QR codes in clinical education can contribute to evidence-based nursing practice by improving perceptions and knowledge of enteral nutrition.
