  • The purpose of this paper is to propose an appropriate evaluation scheme for improvement activities, based on a simple model comprising cash inflow by sales as well as variable and fixed cost expenditures. The paper distinguishes capacity surplus and capacity shortage situations, and examines economic benefits gained by yield increase improvement and capacity increase. The paper then proposes a basic rule of thumb for economic evaluation of improvement activities. The logic is simple but useful in practice, being conducive towards improvement activities under current economic conditions with uncertainties.

  • This study suggests the hedging rule of MIP (Mixed Integer Programing) in counting the risk evaluation criteria of the objective function and constraints in order to provide the optimum operating rule in reservoir system as constraining water shortage as much as possible which may happen in the downstream control point of water supply in the aspect of water system management. The proposed model is applied to the Han-river reservoir system for two testing periods (Case I: Jan. 1993~Dec. 1997, Case II: Jan. 1999~Dec. 2003). The model based on the hedging rule with trigger volume, estimated in this study shows that in Case I, the monthly minimum discharge was $310.6{\times}10^6m^3$ in the single operation, $56.3{\times}10^6m^3$ in the joint operation, and $317.5{\times}10^6m^3$ in the hedging rule and also, in Case II, the monthly minimum discharge was found to be $204.2{\times}10^6m^3$ in the single operation, $111.2{\times}10^6m^3$ in the joint operation, and $243.7{\times}10^6m^3$ in the hedging rule. In conclusion, the hedging rule, proposed in this study can decrease vulnerability while guarantees reliability and resiliency.

  • In the study, simulation result was studied by connecting PID controller in series to the established Neural Networks Controller. Neural Network model is composed of two layers to evaluate tracking performance improvement. The reqular dynamic characteristics was also studied for the expected error to be minimized by using Widrow-Hoff delta rule. As a result of the study, We identified that tracking performance inprovement was developed more in case of connecting PID than Neural Network Contoller and that tracking plant parameter in 251 sample was approached rapidly case of time variable.

  • In this study, we suggest the selecting evaluation method considering 6 major factors like Compliance system application (Development language conformance, Platform Compliance), threat evaluation (criticality of security incident, possibility of security incident), application benefit (Reliability / quality improvement, Modify Cost) for appropriate secure coding rule selecting evaluation. Using this method, we selected and make a set consist of 197 secure coding rules for Battlefield Management System Software. And calculated the application priority for each rules.

  • IMO type C independent tank is one of the cargo containment system specified on IGC code. It is normally adopted for small and medium size liquefied gas carrier's cargo containment system and it can be applied to fuel tank of LNG fueled vessel. This study focuses on rule scantling process and evaluation methods in early design stage of type C independent tank. Actual design results of 22K LPG/Ammonia/VCM carrier's No.2 cargo tank are demonstrated. This paper presents the calculation methods of design acceleration and liquid height for internal design pressure as defined on IGC code. And this paper shows the applied results of classification rules about shell thickness requirement and buckling strength. Additionally this paper deals with evaluation methods of structural strength and cumulative fatigue damage using FE analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an automatic expert system for the evaluation of human sensibility, where human sensibility can be inferred from objective physiological signals. The study aim was also to develop an algorithm in which human arousal and pleasant level can be judged by using measured physiological signals. Fuzzy theory was applied for mathematical handling of the ambiguity related to evaluation of human sensibility. and the degree of belonging to a certain sensibility dimension was quantified by membership function through which the sensibility evaluation was able to be done. Determining membership function was achieved using results from a physiological signal database of arousal/relaxation and pleasant/unpleasant that was generated from imagination. To induce one final result (arousal and pleasant level) based on measuring the results of more than 2 physiological signals and the membership function of each physiological signal. Dempster-Shafer's rule of combination in evidence was applied, through which the final arousal and pleasant level was inferred.

  • As software is developed for many applications and software defects have caused serious problem sin those applications, the concern of software quality evaluation increases rapidly. Although there has been many efforts for establishing standards for software evaluation, such as ISO/IEC 9126, they provide only a framework for defining quality characteristics and evaluation process. They, however, do not provide practical guidances for deriving resonable weight value criteria for software evaluation. This paper presents a method to draw quantitative weight values from evaluator's subjective data in the process of software evaluation as observing the ISO/IEC 9126 standard. To eliminate the evaluators' subjectiveness and the uncertainty of weight value during evaluation, the Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory is adopted and utilized. In this paper, the D-S theory is supplemented with an improved merge rule to reduce the bias of weight value when they are merged with other evaluator's weight value. The proposed merge rule has been tested and proved with actual evaluation data.

  • We present families of nonlinear transformations useful for numerical evaluation of weakly singular integrals. First, for end-point singular integrals, we define a prototype function with some appropriate features and then suggest a family of transformations. In addition, for interior-point singular integrals, we develop a family of nonlinear transformations based on the aforementioned prototype function. We take some examples to explore the efficiency of the proposed nonlinear transformations in using the Gauss-Legendre quadrature rule. From the numerical results, we can find the superiority of the proposed transformations compared to some existing transformations, especially for the integrals with high singularity strength.
